Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

US Nationals Moved...

RATS. Now theres no chance of me making it, unless I win an invite... I might have made it to Ohio, but not here. Great. Just great. I was looking forward to this.

Except the experiance of going to Origins, woops.
I think that travel wasn't the issue. I have no problem as I am sure most of the Northeastern do traveling a extra 200/300 via plane. It does make it a bit harder to drive, which would raise the price since now we would have to take a plane. But for those who take a plane Columbus and St. Louis is most likely only about a 30 minute or so longer flight I would think. I might be wrong. The time change is a bit annoying, but it isn't the worst thing and the cost of flight will be small, if any. I think the part I am most disappointed in is that there were other things if I so choosed to do instead of going to do just Pokemon. I understand that isn't POP problem as they are only worried about how their game does, but you should still want your player base to be an overally happy group. I have other thoughts but for now I will keep them to myself.

Drew

I think you over estimate the effect mvoing the event will have on the player base Drew,

I know that many loved Origins and all the other fun stuff to do there like wandering the dealer room. this includes me as well. Taylor would spend hours just playing werewolf. I would always go home with something new for one of the many games that I enjoy. From what I know of Dave and the gang, they enjoyed the event being at Origins too.

But now we have a tournament that I assume will reflect the rest of the season....free of charge andd all about the Pokemon brand name. Think how many players will be attracted to the event now that the $50 entry fee is gone and we can be advertised as THE event, not just part of a jumble of events over a 4 day period.

PUI would never make such a decision as this without looking at all the angles. There is too much money involved in running something like this to make a mistake. Remember, it is their job to give us the very BEST Pokemon event they can,...it is not their job to provide an environment that supports other games, nor is it their job to cater to a certain group of players.

Put the event on Mars- I'll be there.

I have faith in those who make the decisions for Pokemon- they have done us right so far.
I'm sure there are reasons for this change and I'm also sure we will never know them. And
that is just fine w/me.

For all of you whining like a bunch of 2 year old, looks like you have 2 options- skip
the event or deal with PUI's decision. Simple as that.

And to Jason, this has NO bearing on you at all, so do us ALL a favor and keep your
opinions to yourself . I wouldn't comment on Australian Nats. , give the US players the
same courtesy .

And for the record, I will miss the party in Columbus. Nationals is my favorite tournament of
the year and I have had NOTHING but good times in Columbus the last 5 years .

R.I.P. Origins.

A large portion of the pople who went to nationals in previous years went only because it was at origins, or in other words, that they werent just going for pokemon nationals. But with this move, what will people like that do now? They wont go to nationals.
You assume FAR too much. Like others have said, it could be on the same scale as pokemon 10th anaversity or even the old STS. This move will definately give pokemon crediblity on it's own and also the possibility of move, fun, events (sorry, I don't find watching a squad of zombies or hearing obnoxious RPG guys fun).

Wow. This is a game-changer for me.

My decision becomes this...

Do I attend Origins or do I attend GENCON?

I will not be attending US Nationals for the first time in Ever.

(And, just for the record, even if US Nationals had moved right next door to me, it would STILL be a game-changer. I just don't enjoy Pokemon as a stand-alone event that much. Sorry.)

I'm okay with it.

We will miss the opportunity to see the other games and events at Origins.

We'll also probably not hang out at the conference center or come back on Sunday unless we make the finals because there's nothing else to see but we'll still be going.

Well this family is overly excited and thrilled to be going to St. Louis for Nationals. We're eager to see a new part of the country!! We trust Pokemon to make thoroughly thought out decisions for the betterment of Pokemon and we'll be supporting them by being there. We will not miss Origins!

By the way...if you have never been up inside the St Louis Gateway Arch, you really should take the time..its breath taking....but if you are afraid of heights and enclosed places, probably not the place for you

Oh MY GOODNESS!

WOOT CHAW and all of those other phrases!

If the event is, um, free, we will be breaking EVERY attendance record out there!

I can give anyone/everyone the skinny on less expensive hotels, great ideas on what to do, and everything else.

Trust me, this move ROCKS!

Take the $80 you were going to spend on badges, per kid, and have a couple of really nice meals, buy a box of cards from your local league store, pay for your hotel!!!

WOW!

For us and many other people it doesn't save any money. Instead of spending maybe $150 on gas for the whole trip, we'd now have to pay at least $244 per plane ticket.

Obviously I'm not enjoying losing my Ohio closeness. But I have a cousin in St. Louis, so it won't be all that bad. I'll have to take an extra day or 2 off of work. Oh well. And I agree with other posts, have a Video Game Showdown at Nationals on Sunday (or Friday)

Another point. I hope some of our Ontario Professors can make it this year still.

I hope the event hall place stays open all weekend. I could run a giant game of "Are you a Werewolf?" or something.

People have made posts complaining about location every year. Now it's changed. POP listens.

While I will miss the other attractions at Origins (as a longtime board and historical miniatures gamer), I think that this move will be a good thing in the long run for Pokemon.

I'm on the Board of Directors of the Southern Chapter of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society covering basically Florida and Southern Georgia. In the past five years we've had to change venues for our convention program twice.
Actually the second move is coming next April but here I digress.

We were forced to move from our original site in Tampa when the Hotel was sold and the new owners did not pick up our contract. We cast around and found a fantastic site on International Drive in Orlando even though that meant a move AWAY from our largest player base.

Change is painful but often necessary folks. From our experiences here there will be an initial drop in attendance, followed by a upswing as the advantages of the new location make themselves apparent to the general public. In our case the players loved the new site and attendance built up to nearly the same as our last Tampa shows. (Then the Corporate office of the hotel chain decided to ‘remodel’ the venue, but again I digress!)

Orlando is centrally located (Floridian speaking).
Orlando is a transportation hub.

Now insert St Louis above!

The displeasure on inconvenience of the NE population doesn’t cut it with me. You've 'had it good' for a long time.
And just because Worlds has bounced between CA and FL a couple times doesn’t mean it couldn’t potentially be in Baltimore or even back in Columbus in a non-Origins setting. Time will tell.

Another thing, don’t think GAMA may not have played a big part in this process, perhaps THEY didn’t like Pokemon players ‘demanding’ lower entrance fees and fielding complaints from the larger majority of NON-Pokemon attendees who paid more.

I’m sure this was a difficult decision for PUI and I’m sorry that some of you will not be able to make it to Nationals now.

In 2000 I changed jobs and moved my family from San Jose CA to central Florida. We ‘discovered’ Pokemon and have made great friends here as a consequence of that move. So with change comes opportunity folks.

Give it a chance.

WOW! That sucks so bad but rocks so much at the same time... I really liked Origins last year :frown:, but St. Louis is one of my favorite places to go, too  ... Well I'll be there representing the MS Vallley regardless! :thumb:
