Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

US Nationals: Questions Regarding Registration

When you register, you need to have your decklist filled out.

And then you get deck checked. It is not optional.

Not 100% correct Gorn. Straight from the OP website:

"Day-of Nationals Player Registration Process
1) Though the official registration times are 9:00 a.m.–9:30 a.m., players may get in line in the TCG Event Hall as early as 8:00 a.m. Event staff will begin registration early, if possible. To proceed through registration, your deck list and registration slips must be completed. You may only register yourself, and you must be present to register.
2) Go to the Check-In table. Your registration slip will be taken, and you will be asked if you wish to have your deck checked. If you do, you will be sent to the deck-check area. If not, you will be directed where to drop your deck list. Remember, whether you proceed through deck checks or not, your deck and its contents are your responsibility.
3) After your deck list has been accepted (at either location) you will receive the following:
a. Player Responsibilities information
b. National Championships promo claim ticket
4) Proceed to the next area with your claim ticket, and you will receive your National Championships promo card, pin, and T-shirt.
5) You must review and follow all regulations on the Player Responsibilities information sheet.
6) You’re done! Be back in the tournament area no later than 10:30 a.m. for the player meeting."

Wow! I am 100% astonished.

So is the penalty for having a deck that doesn't match your decklist different for someone who went through deck check vs. someone who did not?

If not, why bother with ANY deck checks?

That's what I've been wondering. I'm not getting deck-checked, so I better be really careful.

Honestly, i really wonder why they're not doing deck checks. deck checks should be done for every event.

i personally feel it's a really bad idea. i'm guessing it's a time saving measure. but i guess if they don't deck check everyone,

will i still be able to get the appropriate penalty if my opponent has.

"nonlegal card" aka new player syndrome

" five infernapes"

"illegal sleeves":nonono:

maybe they could use this on their sleeves

At the *very* least, list checks must be done to make sure that the lists are filled out correctly and at least the deck list is legal.

I'm sure it is a time saver. The why do it is because if you did make a mistake it more than likely will be caught and you can correct it BEFORE the tournament.

Got our badges this morning! Everything was quick and painless. My sons were excited because the worker/volunteer was playing Pokemon Diamond while he waited for customers.

Pokemon: It's not just for geeks anymore!:wink:

Or as my husband says, "Origins - a 14,000+ geek-fest." And we are proud to be a part of it. It was just awesome to see my boys so excited about it all. What could be better? They get to meet people from all over the country and use their reading, math, and logic skills. We'll see everyone at 10AM tomorrow!

Deck lists have always been the responsibility of the player. If the deck and deck list do not match up, you will be sufficiently penalized, if discovered during the tourney. The penalty will be the same whether you check or not check for deck. The deck check pretourney is for YOUR benefit, not the staff's!When in doubt, have it checked. If you have no concerns, skip the deck check. I expect a good number of asters will opt out of the deck check itself.

GL to all the players.

From onsite, here's the deal the event registration ticket...
- You can get a free event ticket on site by standing in the event registration line; separate from Badge purchase.
- If you have an event ticket, you can get straight in the registration line for US National Championship.
- If you don't have an event ticket, you will wait until the registratino line is empty.
Highly recommended you get that ticket!

For decklists, here's the deal. As you know, having a correct decklist is always the player's responsibility. For those who don't want the formality/assistance of a staff deck check, you will be able to so indicate at registration and go straight to the 'swag' line. For those who would like help of a staff deck check, you will be able to go to the deck check, before going to the 'swag' line. Again, you will make this choice at the registration table.

I hope this explains how things will work and also answers the rhetorical, why even have deck checks!

BTW, there WILL be random checks of the top table decks during swiss rounds rounds. Players making the top cut will turn in their deck Saturday evening. If I made the top cut, I would definitely have a spare set of sleeves with me in the morning, as there is a high likelihood that some sleeves will become damaged to the point of being 'marked' during the course of play Saturday.
