US Nats top 32 report

Time for Pain

<a href="http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?
I decide to play Gyarados because I believe it has a good matchup against the field and have an amazing list for it. Since my season is over anyone who wants the list can PM me and I will give it to them.

Going in I was a little nervous because the format is in almost complete disarray. It is hard to do well because almost every deck has the potential to T1 the opponent.

The Report:

Thurs + Fri (day 1)
I arrive Thursday, prereg and playtest and almost switch to sablock because I feel bad about playing Gyarados (and after day 1 I felt worse) I get a 2 round bye for winning regionals and I spend the time with Mike Pramawat, Pooka, Drew Holten, and Luke Reed getting breakfast and watching Pooka play Mike. We head back to find that there is a lunch break after round 2 so we won't be able to play till 2:30. I hangout with some friends for lunch and get back for my first match of the day.

Round 3: Palkia lock

He starts Dialga to my sableye. I use collecter to get three magikarps while he collecters for palkia, mesprit and uxie. He ends up using deafen for the turn. I use collecter to grab another magikarp, lunatone, and solrock and impersonate felicity to discard 2 magikarp. He attaches to his dialga and ko's my sableye. I proceed to discard a magikarp with lunatone, attach an expert belt to gyarados and run through his field.

3-0

Round 4: Erik N w/ luxchomp
I start sableye and magikarp to his uxie. I use collecter to grab 3 magikarp while he drops crobat g 3 times to ko my magikarp. I bench a magikarp and use felicity to discard a magikarp. He bright looks it and does bite for a ko. I bench another magikarp and it proceeds to get dragon rushed. Later he flash impacts my sableye. I now have 2 solrock and 2 lunatone (1 GE, 1 SV) in play so he has to slow down his assult. I realize my only out is to drop ERL and send the game to SD but alas in my last 3 prizes were 1 ERL and azelf.
3-1

Round 5: Ryan G w/ Sp stuff
I didn't see much because after I used sableye he proceeds to OHKO me with ambipom by drawing 2 crobat g off uxie.
3-2

Round 6: Jumpluff
I find out I prized 2 magikarp, 3 rescues, and azelf (after I pile shuffled) so I'm off to a slow start. I'm able to find a way to come back but he has a warp point FTW
3-3

At this point I'm dissapointed and almost drop, then I realize if I go 6-3 I should make it so I keep playing.

Round 7: Kevin F w/ ???
He never shows up, I talk to him later and he says he dropped but I guess that never got to the computer people.
4-3

Finally, I'm happy day 1 is finally over and hopefully I could do better day 2.

Day 2:
I'm feeling much better for some reason and head to my table hoping I can get the 2 wins I need to make cut.

Round 8: Jumpluff
I start amazing and T2 start hitting for 90 with gyarados. He is able to ko 2 gyarados but can't keep up.
5-3

Round 9: Healix
I start good as does he. Too bad for me he has a lanturn prime as a gyarados tech. So he takes the first 2 prizes with steelix and I ko it to tie it up (expert belt) I ko an uxie after using a warp point and he takes a prize with lanturn prime. At this point I drop ERL attach a lightning energy to it and attack for 90. He heals the damage with moomoo-milk and a pokehealer and ko's my gyarados with steelix. I ko steelix with ERL and a crobat drop (3 sp metal+expert belt) He sends up lanturn whiffs on DCE and I thunder fall a benched claydol FTW.
6-3

So I'm able to win 3 in a row and make top cut as the 46th seed. Also they combined the pods.

Top 128: Bryan V w/ Donphan
He is a good guy that got a bad matchup. He has no techs (excpet for judge) and I roll game 1. 1-0
G2: I T2 him. 2-0
7-3

Top 64: Igor D w/ Plox AMU
G1: I get a good start and get a few KO's. He responds with a Gallade KO but I respond quickly and roll with solrock and another gyarados FTW 1-0
G2: He completley rolls me and I can't get anything going. 1-1
G3: See G1. 2-1
8-3

Top 32: Gino L w/ Jumpluff
I don't remember alot about these games but I do remember the key events.

G1: I have a Gyarados w/ expert belt and 130 damage on it. He uses his 2 claydols to draw into all 3 poketurns he has left so he can ko my gyarados with crobat drops and get a jumpluff in play (without a 3rd poketurn he had a full bench) to get another ko and uses warp point to win. 0-1

G2: He tries to donk me but fails and it costs him the game. 1-1

G3: I start sableye and magikarp, bench lunatone (SV) and use collecter to grab 3 magikarps. He ko's the sableye with jumpluff. I use felicity, whiff on the gyarados, drop sableye and impersonate bebe. He drops crobat 3 times and ko's my active sableye. With him already up 3 prizes I know I lose if he can keep jumpluffs coming and he can. 1-2

So my dream for this year ends and now I look forward to next year.

Props:
Erik getting 2nd

That list is wicked awesome, and trippy.

Good Job T4P! Way to represent the 804!

I'm the one that played you with steelix, it was a great game man! came down to one prize and all I needed was a DCE to win, to bad it was like the last card in my deck lol. Good job though man. it was nice to meet you! you had a great grarados build!

Great season, Johnny. Keep it rolling next year!!! I'm sure your decks will continue to be your own unique creations--Rabidos, indeed!!!

You really found another gear this season, Johnny. Congrats on the big Regionals win and T32 here.

See you around NoVA next season. When do the next batch of BRs start, September?

Johnny will make T16 in 2011 NATS & he will get a paid invite.

There. I called it.

*marks this day on calendar and walks out of the thread*
