On behalf of Andrea and myself, I would like to thank all the players who participated in the Utah State Championship for their amazing attitude and patience for the challenges we all faced.
Not often do players get the whole story on why things cause delays. You were all there to play and anxious to be able to do so.
Our registration process was smooth and perfectly executed. We had no issues on that part. Sleeve checks were a little frustrating because of having to try and determine the exact amount of reflectivity that would let a sleeve pass or not. This is something that I hope to bring up in other discussions so that we can streamline this measure to be less arbitrary and more fair to players who try hard to play with sleeves they like, yet have no control over the companies who produce sleeves with varying amounts of matte finish and reflectivity.
Once we had the roster posted there were some players who noticed their names hadn't shown up. We went in and added them then reprinted and posted the roster. We had also entered in a few late registrants who showed up after the roster had been printed again. When we paired for the rounds the computer program had left out certain players and had shown the Master division already completed. We tried to re-pair the Master division to clear the error but it wasn't re-pairing. After trying to shut down and restart the program to no effect, we had to go in and re-enter all 133 players from scratch - a very time-consuming process. Once we did so we had to verify that the roster had properly been re-done and players all showing as having been added. For the first few rounds we were able to get back up and running. TOM kept having minor issues behind the scenes, but we were able to keep it from affecting the tournament.
There were other challenges along the way, but was very impressed that, while everyone was anxious and frustrated by the delays, that they were all in good spirits and accepting of our issues.
Thank you again to all the players for their demonstration of great sportsmanship and great attitudes throughout the day!!
