If Machamp attacks Venomoth with Brick Smash, does the attack work?

I'm not sure I see the question.

Venomoth's Protective Dust (EX FireRed & LeafGreen) doesn't prevent damage, only preventing extra effects - Brick Smash deals damage, with no extra effect to Venomoth.
