Vermilion City Gym (Gym Heroes 120) says:
Whenever a player attacks with a Pokémon with Lt. Surge in its name, he or she may flip a coin. If heads, and if that Pokémon's attack does damage to the Defending Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance), that attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon. If tails, the attacking Pokémon does 10 damage to itself in addition to whatever its attack usually does.
1. Timing: If I use an attack that involves coin flips should I activate Vermilion City Gym before or after them? For example If I use Lt. Surge's Jolteon (Gym Challenge 28)'s High Voltage which deals 20 damage and says : "Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent can't play Trainer cards during his or her next turn." can I first flip for trainer block and then, depending on the result, choose whether to use Vermilion City Gym or not?
2. Recoil: Cards like Defender (Base Set 80) and Metal Energy (Neo Genesis 19) can reduce damage from self-damaging attacks like Double-edge and Take Down. Can these cards also protect me from Vermilion City Gym's damage when I activate it and flip tails?
