Hey guys,

I've experimented with this deck and I need to improve this deck a lot. I know it's never going to be top tier, but I think testing against the best decks and getting a winning record is good enough to make it a decent deck. Here it is:

2-1-2 Emboar "Ability"
2-1-2 Vileplume
4-4 Magmortar "Top Burner"
3 Mime Jr.
2 Shuckle (Promo)
Total Pokemon: 23

3 Rare Candy
3 Pokemon Communication
Total Trainers: 6

3 Pokemon Collector
4 Twins
3 Professor Oak's New Theory
4 Fisherman
3 Seeker
Total Supporters: 17

14 Fire Energy
Total Energy: 14

Total: 60

The basic strategy is to start with either Mime Jr. or Cleffa and then change to Magmortar, all the while setting up Vileplume and Emboar "Ability" so I can keep hitting my opponent for a decent ammount of mill each turn. Mim Jr. helps a lot with control and tempo and Magmortar can mill through a lot of the deck. Vileplume helps me to stop the opponent playing catcher as well as other trainers and Emboar attaches loads of energy a turn.

I've played it 6 times, and it's won twice, once against Reshiphlosion which is a bonus. Could you guys help me fine tune this deck, because it seems like it's quite difficult to play against if I'm able to discard key cards from my opponents deck.

So yeah, if you guys could suggest cards I should put in and take out, I would be much appriciated.

Thanks,

Double Decker

Edit 1: -1 Professor Oak's New Theory, -3 Professor Juniper, +4 Team Rocket's Trickery
Edit 2: -4 Team Rocket's Trickery, +4 Cheren
Edit 3: - a 1-1 Magmortar line, -2 Fire Energy, -1 Cleffa, -4 Cheren, +2 Shuckle, +3 Seeker, +1 Basculin, +2 Zekrom, +1 Double Colorless Energy
Edit 4: -1 Basculin, -2 Zekrom, -1 Double Colorless Energy, + a 1-1 Magmortar line, +2 Fire Energy

Seems to me like the Vileplume and the Magmortar might work against each other. Vileplume forces your opponent to go through their deck much slower than usual--they can't play trainers, so all those cards that help them play other cards can't be played. Meanwhile, with Magmortar, you're trying to get your opponent to empty their deck as fast as possible.

Is that what you find so far, or not?

That's a fair comment. However, I have found it's the only accurate and 100% way in which I can stop Pokemon Catcher from working. What would you suggest I use instead?

Another option I've been considering, still with Vileplume, is the addition of Ninetales for draw power instead of a supporter, like Juniper and Oak's New Theory, and the addition of Typhlosion Prime instead of Emboar, so I know that even if I discard the energy on Magmar, or Ninetales, I can get it back again and get my opponent to mill. What do you think?

I have been playing a modified version of this deck against a Reshiphlosion deck tonight, and it went 5-0 which is pretty strong. I took out 3 Juniper and 1 Oak's New Theory and put in Team Rocket's Trickery. The card draw each turn was great, but I'm going to be changing it to Cheren.

I have also found that I'm not using Emboar "Ability" as much because getting Vileplume out is much more important. It's right that if I didn't have Vileplume I'd be able to have a load more better cards in my deck for milling my opponent, but at the end of the day, being able to keep an Emboar on the bench ad using Fisherman taking out their top 4 cards in that turn is priceless. Mime Jr. is genius in this deck as well. It can stall and help me towards my goal too.

Does anyone else want to chip in? It would be great if people could help out further with this because it's a really interesting deck to play with and against!

Hm, the deck looks pretty solid... what decks are you still having trouble with?

Thanks. I've only really tested it against Typhlosion/Reshiram and Donphan/Yanmega/Zoroark, which is a very limited play testing group. In it's current build it has gone 5-0 against Typhlosion/Reshiram and 0-2 against Donphan/Yanmega/Zoroark. So it seems even though it slows down other decks, it gets hate by Stage 1's. Though I can only see Stage 1's and aggressive Vileplume decks being a problem against this. I also have to bare in mind that I don't get to look at any of my prize cards, and I may only draw into 1 or 2 of them at best.

The only thing I might change with this deck is taking out the Cleffa and putting in another Mime. Jr. That's the only viable option I can think of really.

One change I could do is to add either Kyogre & Groudon Legend or Dialga & Palkia Legend. The down side being I have to put in Rainbow Energy into the deck as well as when it goes my opponent gets 2 prizes instead of 1. The reason why I might want to run Kyogre & Groudon is because of it's milling attack and the reason behind Dialga & Palkia is to keep putting the top 2 cards of thier deck into their prize cards.

Any other strategies do you think I could consider to maybe counter my bad match ups?

Shuckle Promo. Bench it after Vileplume is in play. You will be vulnerable to Yanmega and anything that snipes because Shuckle only has 60 HP, but if you pair it with Seeker, you attach all the Fire energies to shuckle, drawing a card for each one, then seeker up Shuckle attach however many energies to Magmortar and then burn their deck

Either of the Legends will have to be an entirely different deck.

You may have to accept an auto-loss to some forms of stage 1 and anything water, which won't be too bad unless it is popular in your area. I think the only way to turn that matchup around is to have an option for taking easy prizes (using the aggro magmortar, donphan to one-shot zekrom, etc). With Emboar, you have the potential to power up practically anything you want, so see if you can also have an aggro option against things that OHKO Magmortar.

Thanks for the advice guys! Promo Shuckle is worth looking at and I can take out Cheren for it as well! I've also looked at a couple of aggro options like Zekrom, for taking out my weaknesses, maybe for starting and to take out Yanmega Prime, and Flail Basculin to deal with Donphan. I'll update the list and I'll be testing it tomorrow.

Look, the idea isn't going to work right now due to that 50% chance of discarding all of your energies.

Hold onto it though, and wait for Victini.

Victini will help a lot, I agree! But the energy discard isn't so bad because I can use Fisherman, and as a 4 of, I should have a good chance at either top decking it or getting it in my starting hand.

Okay, I did some testing on this deck on Tuesday, with aggro options. I chose Basculin to hit Donphan and Zekrom to hit Yanmega as well as my weakness. I played 4 games in all, all of which I lost. I lost 2-0 against Reshiphlosion and 2-0 against a Stage 1's. The aggro options I chose didn't work at all and made me try and play too offensively.

I did how ever enjoy the Shuckle Promo use, though the downside is that I have to use Seeker to get them back to my hand which will be my supporter for the turn. But in my opinion he has more pros than cons in this build right now.

What other aggro options would you guys choose instead of the ones I did?

Would it be faster to make a Reshiphlosion deck with the ability to mill as well? So I could cut back on both the use of Typhlosion and Reshiram, or take out all the Reshiram altogether, and have Ninetales for draw support.
