Introduction
The weather has been all bananas this season giving us the warmest winter in decades. But this morning a carpet of snow is greeting me as I leave our home. Winter just came to town, bro! So what better place to go to that a City Championship in the city of Vinterbro.

Winter is not the only thing that's late in Norway. Our CC season is in fact starting now also (!!!). We've had one premier event so far, but now a series of CC will be unleashed upon Norway from January to March, 9 altogether, which is a new record.

Deck talk
I played Salamence ex/Altaria ex in our first premier event; a new and completely untested deck that I did well with... So I decided to try the same strategy this time too. I have never played Flygon ex d w/Eeveeelutions in a tourney before, so today was as good as any other day. We are only in this for the fun, anyway! Right? I like decks with some kind of a "machinery" (usually poke-powers/bodies) that works together (like DragTrode probably my all-time favourite deck), as opposed to stall decks or fast disruptive decks meant to annoy grey hairs on your head. Flygon ex d works so great with Jolteon ex that it just appealed to me once I heard of the idea. No points earnt for originality, but at least I made the list myself after some idea swapping with Marstio from Finland.

Not much longer now....
We catch a bus for 20 minutes to get there and crowd up around Burger King, which seems to be the only place there big enough to host some 50ish ppl in TCG mood. So after the mandatory PC-crashes and a second round of registrations, we are all set.

Spice your dice, it's game time!

Round #1: vs. Wei Hao w/Rayquaza ex d and Jolteon ex
I don't start off too well, but his deck just isn't doing that much damage since he is ahead on prizes, so once my Flygons are set I start catching up and win some 5-10 minutes before time is called.

1-0

Round #2. vs. Rafael w/RaiEggs
I have all due respect for RaiEggs. It's tough to beat and an arsenal of Cessation Crystals, Cursed Stones and measly one-prize-knock-outs, is between me and victory. I play to the best of my abilities and hold onto an Espy I get early.. This pays of because just in the nick of time I am able to both devolve and KO for two prizes on the same turn. By no means a strong win, but good enough for the record.

2-0

Round #3. vs. Jorgen w/Swampert ex
Jorgen says to me that he feels his luck is about to end. He plays a really rogue deck, with Jirachi, Snorlax d, Magcargo and of course Swampert ex. He starts off with some lukcy dice rolls against my Castform, but after that it's downhill for him. His 80+20 attack isn't good enough when I hit both his bench and his active repeatedly.

3-0

Round #4. vs. Kenneth w/RaiEggs
History is about to repeat itself. Just like in our last premier event I met Kenneth in the last game before the finals... and got beaten because of my misplay. And do I misplay this time too?? Yeah, sure!! I just couldn't resist KO'ing his active Pikachu with my early Jolteon ex, which proved really foolish later when it was Cursed-Stoned to death for a measly Pikachu as it's sole victim. I also play Power Tree for no good use, and I am able to evolve an Eevee before I realize I coulda placed an energy on it with Fligon HP. Ouch! Well, it gets close near the end, but I am too much behind and loose this one.

3-1

------------

Top 4 is:
Flygon ex vs. Flygon ex (me vs. Evens)
RaiEggs vs. RaiEggs (Rafael vs. Kenneth)

Round #5. vs. Evens w/Flygon ex d w/Lati(o/a)s/Lati(o/a)s ex

Game #1: I kinda know what Evens is playing and have two things in mind for this game. #1: watch out for Latios ex who can protect itself against Pokemon-ex, and #2: a swarm of Giant Stump. He starts with a Latias d and don't get a flying start. I take some prizes early on, but it don't take too long before he's got tons of energy on his Pokemon, unfortunately for him it seems like Flygon ex d is the game winning card, and I just manage to evolve faster than him. Plus, my Jolteon ex/Espeoon ex opens for some surprises during the game. It feels good to win against such a good player.

Game #2: It kinda starts like the first one, but he is really catching up after about 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately for him time is called just when we are 1-1 on prices.

4-1

Round #6. vs. Kenneth w/RaiEggs

Game #1: I meet Kenneth again who is now undefeated I believe. Our first game is the closest one. However I did not make the same mistakes as in our last game, and made an impressive ending to the match by devolving and knocking out his actice Pokémon, taking the last 2 prices at once.

Game #2: I have the perfect hand for an end to this great day, my hand reads: 1 Trapinch d, 1 Vibrava d, 1 Flygon ex d, 2 psychic energy, 1 lightning energy and 1 PETM. It took me 3 turns, but then I had the beast going and 80 each turn is just too much to recover from.

5-1

So in other words, Hawaii here I come!

Props:
- Very nice atmosphere and fair play as far as the eye could see
- My deck, for good behaviour
- Getting valuable ranking points (currently I got an Hawaii-ticket...hehe, but only for a few days I guess)
- Getting a bye for Nationals

Slops
- Eskils PC for crashing
- Bad luck on my daughters behalf
- 9 boosters and promo stuff is.. .well, WITH the ranking points and possible Hawaii trip it's fantastic, but.. well, what do you think??

Well, that's all for now! Hope you liked my report.

Don't blame my poor computer, it behaved perfectly as always. It was all 100 % TOM's fault. *curses at the stupid program*

Why does that stupid software keep crashing? Half the events I've attended TOM has crashed. I'd be interested to look at the programming behind it and the history. Is it downloadable or something on CD?

My CC final was the same: my Raieggs versus a Flygon ex delta build. I managed 2-0 against it, she made some misplays. Holon Legacy helped a lot.

I've used TOM lots... Its never crashed and been unrecoverable. I did succede in locking up some of the earlier incarnations but the standard Windows recovery procedure of shutting down and starting again always worked. TOM isn't perfect but it is miles better than TMS.

ah UK Nationals :(

what happened was first the power was removed from a computer than had faulty batteries.

some players gave incorrect POPIDs which required significant effort to establish who had given the wrong information.

And lastly the tournament was set up with the wrong top cut size selected.

All led to delays(hours!) none of which were because of TOM. You need to look elsewhere in the organisation of Nationals if you are seeking reasons for and lessons from what occured at last years UK Nationals.

The only thing that TOM did wrong was not to realise that the tournament name had a '>' symbol as part of the saved filename. Its not a good idea to use such special characters in filenames. The result was that TOM was unable to load the files that were saved as backups during the day.

Oh, well I hope this year's Nationals goes smoothly. Aw good old TOM (Starts wondering why myself and others and personifying computer software like the hoover on the teletubbies). Whenever we get paired against our best friend in top cut, it was TOM's fault. When we get the best pair-ups three cheers for TOM! Good old TOM.
