Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Virginia's Autumn Battle Roads 2008!--Now with Photo Link (end of thread)

I seriously doubt any players would fight for 60 min top cuts ....

....but parents/drivers/nonplaying spectators sure as heck might!!!! I would really hate for an X-0 junior to have to drop out just because a parent didn't expect this to go on til 7:00 PM.
The judge votes for 60--and so does Patrick since I'm his ride :biggrin:

k, thats 2

all in favor of more than 60 minutes?? (im pretty sure masters outnumber the juniors and seniors :biggrin:)

this i understand, thats why i didnt say no one will want 60 minutes, but surely players won't. I mean ... we're there to play! More time to play sounds good to me, everytime

See, now I am caught between rock and hard place. As a player, I know the suckage of short time on top cut (at least, I have heard about it, since it isn't like I get to experience it....) But as a judge, I know how long it is and how by the time top cuts finish we just want it to be over. Theoretically, it only adds an additional half hour (2 top cut matches with an additional 15 minutes each round), so it doesn't make a HUGE difference in the long run...it is the 40 minutes for regulation rounds that is really killing us, on top of the extra for top cuts, but there is nothing I can do about that.

I really don't understand what all you judges are complaining about. You just wander around and don't respond to people who yell judge. It's not that hard.I'm just kidding. I appreciate all of you.

WAITLISTED PEOPLE OF BEFORE 4PM WEDNESDAY: I decided to raise the capacity to 60 people. This means that everyone who was on the waitlist before 4pm Wednesday now has a spot in the event. When I left HW, there were 58 people preregistered.

After 60 people, a new waitlist begins. If you end up on that waitlist, if everybody shows up, your best chance to get into the event is to bring a standard folding chair. This is not a guarentee that you will get into the event, but it is an incentive to accept you if there is physical space at the store (even if there is space, at 60 people, we've exhausted the chair supply so that chair may be your ticket in, given available physical space).

My friend, who was preregistered, isn't going.(Fairfax)
If someone is not going to show up, that person needs to call the store and have his/her name crossed off the list. This is important. Thank you.

Let's not "try"

Do or do not. There is no try.

Can I take the judging test?

Even if you pass it, you don't get to judge anything.

For the record, we did all of em in 60 in VA Beach just fine; nothing went to time.

Yes, but with longer rounds you actually get to think.

I vote for untimed top cut matches.

With you in the tournament, that would take all night.

Since you can't do anything about the 40 minute swiss rounds, why not just make the players happy and do 75 minutes in the top cut? It's not really a situation where compromise works, the parents who have no idea how long tournaments take would leave anyway, 30 minutes less won't stop that, but that 15 minutes is a huge difference for the players.

You can't judge premier events because I'm not the TO for those events. The only thing I can do is suggest your name to the TO. For league tournaments, no one who has passed has ever made good on any offer to judge. Everyone just plays instead.

That's why I like the new 40-minute swiss rounds. You can think without your opponent becoming jittery about getting stalled out.

Interesting point. In my experience, parents would only make the end time a pressing matter if there was something else going on later in the day. As long as the event doesn't push into 9pm, I don't think parents would really mind how long the tournament goes, just that they are told a reasonable estimate for pick-up. Parents would rather be told "we plan to end at 7pm" than "be back at 5pm" only to find out the tournament may go to 7pm upon coming back at 5pm.

40x5=200
10x5=50
(250+45)/60=~5 hours.

So, if we start at 12pm, we can expect swiss to end at about 5pm, and then top cut at 7:30pm. This assumes 5 rounds at full 40 minutes, without taking into account any rounds finishing early. I calculated 10 minutes between rounds, to cover any time extensions (in 40 minute games? :confused:) or random incidents of TOM, as well as a 45 minute lunch.
