Announcing the 2007 Official Pokemon TCG Washington-Oregon Battle For Northwest Superiority Not Sanctioned By Nintendo (OPTWOBFNSNSBN). :thumb:
I'm sure many of you remember the rules from past years but I will do a brief overview again.
-This is a competition between Washington and Oregon pokemon players that takes place during the premier event season.
-Washington and Oregon will score 1 point for every victory by one of their players in a OPTWOBFNSNSBN event. (This includes all age groups, so each event has 3 points up for grabs).
-If a player not from Washington or Oregon wins a OPTWOBFNSNSBN event, the point will be awarded to the highest scoring player from Washington or Oregon.
New For 2007:For the 2007 season, players will be assigned to either Washington or Oregon by where they play typically as 1st criteria. In past years, residence has been the #1 factor of deciding if a player represents Washington or Oregon. For example, one Northwest player that I know has been high in the rankings this year is Thor H. Thor is listed as WA, but plays in Oregon almost exclusively. I believe it is more fair to put Thor on the Oregon 'team'. However, for circumstances such as these (and they should be few), the player may decide on which state they represent, if it is not clear. Besides player's decision though, this rule will be the guideline for such circumstances, with the OPTWOBFNSNSBN director (that is me) having the final say.
-In past years, this event was only open to Washington and Oregon residents. However, because where the player plays is now a higher priority than residence, players will now be considered eligible if they play a very significant amount of time in either Washington or Oregon. (think league, not just flying to tournaments or w/e). This should not be a huge difference, as the centers of play (Seattle and Portland) are not near other states.
2007 OPTWOBFNSNSBN events:
-Washington State Championships
-Oregon State Championships
-Northwest Regional Championships
-(POSSIBLY) Battle Road events in Washington and Oregon
The Battle Road series details have not been released yet, so I cannot promise they will count towards this year's OPTWOBFNSNSBN. If there are so many that there are Washington and Oregon events on the same day, there likely won't be much Washington vs Oregon competition, and thus it would not be a suitable OPTWOBFNSNSBN event. If there are few enough that each will likely attract Washington and Oregon players, it probably will be suitable to be a part of the OPTWOBFNSNSBN. So there MAY only be 9 pts up for grabs this year, the event could be won/lost in the first 2 weeks.
-All final decisions are made by the OPTWOBFNSNSBN director (which is me). The director may seek opinions and alternative options for decisions from Washington and Oregon players. In extreme circumstances, at least 2 Washington and/or Oregon players may challenge a director's decision in which a panel of non Washington or Oregon Pokemon players will serve as a jury as stated at the Vancouver Convention.
Here is the history of OPTWOBFNSNSBN results:
2005 Washington 14 Oregon 4
2006 Washington 15 Oregon 3
