Gym Challenge should live up to its name

I think that the Gym Challenge should be a real challenge of the Pokemon Gyms. When
people register for the Tournament they should be able if they so choose, to declare
what Pokemon Gym that the are affiliated with. There would be separate Gym competitions for each of the three age groups.

Scoring would be handled like a cross country event where a team sore is determined by in what position the various team members place in the event. 1 point for first place 2 for second and so on.

The team (Gym) with the lowest team score wins the gym challenge and an award certificate would be presented to the winning Pokemon Gym. Teams could be of any number of players, but a minimum of 3 players in a particular age group would be required to qualify for a team score. Scores would be determined after the conclusion of the Swiss play portion of the Gym Challenge tournament. You would then take the top three finish placings for each Gym team, add them together and whichever team has the lowest combined score would be the winning gym for that age group. It would not be necessary for a player to declare a gym affiliation to compete, but there placing in the swiss potion of the tournament would still impact the scores of the Gyms involved, also if a Gym did not have enough qualifying players for a particular age group, there placing in swiss would also affect the competing gyms team scores.

It would be best to run it this way so that newer players would not be discouraged
from playing as their performance could not hurt the team as only the top 3 players scores are added, yet they are still a valuable part of the team as if they are able to finish in swiss above the 2nd or 3rd place finisher of another gym, they can help their team to win by raising the team score of the other Gyms.

Here is an example of how the scoring works. There are 3 teams registered in an age group
Gym A has 5 players registered
Gym B has 8 players registered
Gym C has 3 players registered and there are 6 players playing without Gym affiliation.
So there are a total of 22 players in the tournament.

After swiss play if is over here are the placings

Gym A finished 1, 4, 16, 17 and 19
Gym B finished 5, 7, 8, 11, 14, 18, 20 and 22
Gym C finished 2, 6 and 15
Unaffiliated players finished 3, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 21

Team scores are
Gym A - 1 + 4 + 16 = 21
Gym B - 5 + 7 +8 = 20
Gym C - 2 + 6 + 15 = 23

Gym B would be declared the winner of the Gym Challenge as they have the lowest team sccore

Hey guys. This is Flaming_Spinach on my brothers account that I forced him to get. Now we'll see if he uses it or not.

Anywho, there's no way we're missing this one! We'll be there, even if we both have to judge!:thumb:

I guess I'll see most of you at Portland on May27th. Be ready to lose!

Bwahahahahahaha!

JandPDS: NO! We are still doing the Oregon v.s. Washington thing! If we did gyms X-Files would OBVIOUSLY win. Could we have a GB side event? It would have to be JAA rules.

Meh, so if I end up fighting all my gym buddies, (it can and will happen, our gym is that good), in the elim rounds, I automatically get less points because I had to donk someone I knew.

The concept could work in theory, but in Washington; so many players play in multiple league/gyms (whatever you want to call them).
The only question is...if you are saying this should be a team competition, then how do you put together the pairings, and how do you award the trips to worlds.

Leave it as every man, woman, and child for themselves. It's more fun that way.

Players would choose thier own affiliation

The players would of thier own accord declare a gym afiliation when they register for the tournement. (this would have abolutly no effect on the Washington vs Oregon challenge) This was envisoned so that the various Pokemon Leagues could challenge one another, but if individual players (like X-files) wanted to band together and enter a team, I dont see any reason for that not to be allowed. And yes you would be paired and compete against your teammates from time to time, but just like a cross country running meet it is an individual competion with a team aspect. Pokemon Gym Challenge would continue to be an individual competition, just that it would be nice if Gym Challenge name ment more then just "the tournement after Regionals and before Nationals"

This team concept would in no way change any way at all on how the individual prizes are awarded durring the Gym Challenge. Team Gym Challenge competiton would be over once Swiss play is finished.

Team play would not change anything

I agree...Every man, woman, and kid for themselves.

It would still be an individual tournement with individual prizes. No player would be forced to or even asked to declare a gym affiliation. So if you don't see any reason to register as a gym member you wont have to, but your performance in the tournement will still impact thoes teams that are registered. So again only thoes players that want to participate on team will. No one be asked or questioned if they do not declare a gym (team) affliation. There will be no Prizes (ie Booster packs or deck boxes) for the winning teams in each age group, just a certificate to take back to thier Pokemon Gym wall and bragging rights for a year. This would not change anything at all about individual competiton or individual prizes. It would just run at the same time as the Main tournement and would resolve once Swiss play is over.
