Hi.

Just bought 20 packs of R&S, and was wondering if this is normal.

After 12 packs, I have 2 regular foils and 3 EX Pokemon. That isn't the problem, the problem is where they appear in the pack.

Basically, the packs where I got the EX Pokemon, the pack was organised like this:

Common
Common
Common
Common
EX Pokemon
Uncommon
Uncommon
Reverse Holo
Rare

Now I thought that the EX Pokemon was supposed to be at the back of the pack, so I'm thinking that I have got 3 EX Pokemon instead of regular holos

If not, why did I not get any EX Pokemon at the back of the pack?

Thoughts please...

if what you said is correct, there were nine cards in your packs. Aren't the boosters supposed to contain 8 cards? w00t. late.

No. The Pokémon-e packs have always contained 9 cards in them, unless errors were present.

weird, I could have sworn it was 8, oh well. Looks like my theory died before it was even typed. You can tell how much I play this game... w00t. Late.

Ok, I now have sort of "proof"... Lol..

Here's something which may help to figure out what was wrong with the packs.

I got 23 rares in 20 packs (including EX Pokemon)
I got 4 foils in 20 packs

Basically, I think what happened was that instead of 3 of the regular foils, I got a normal rare, for some reason. WHat do you think?

Hm. Interesting. It would appear that in your packs, your Pokémon-ex cards replaced a regular holographic rare. While they normally replace a rare card in pack. Meaning, they're normally the LAST card in the pack.

So... consider yourself lucky, I guess.

Heh. I think I got lucky recently, too.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Ruby deck and the Sapphire deck are supposed to have 60 standard cards, and one random reverse holo card, correct? Well, in a Ruby deck I just bought a few days ago, I got a regular holo Camerupt in it. Weird, eh?

No, that's completely normal. The decks are supposed to come with a random holofoil, not a revese holo.

OK, then. I guess I was getting a bad signal to turn on the main screen.

Thanks for the information.

Actually, Nintendo has done a BIG, BIG switcheroo on us. They've decided to make the EX Pokemon the same rarity as the normal Holo rares, that is, one in every 3 boosters. This is a COMPLETE REVERSAL of the original boosters that were released first where the EX rarity was the same as the normal non-Holo rares.

I think this was a VERY BIG MISTAKE!!! We now have 22 "holo-level" rares in this set and only 13 "non-holo-level" rares!!! My guess is that either someone goofed up BIG TIME at the packaging plant, or some IDIOT in management made a "bonehead" decision to make EX Pokemon the same rarity as Holos.

I'm pretty sure it was a miscommunication between PUSA and the printer. When I spoke with Jimmer at the PC event, he told me EX Pokemon had the same rarity as regular foils, 1 in 3 packs.

Now, that statement could be taken two different ways.
1. They count as regular foils and are mixed into the regular 1 in 3 distribution of foils.
2. They have a parallel 1 in 3 distribution.

So, I pressed for a clarification and got that it was number 1, mixed in with the regular foil distribution.

Obviously, the printer didn't aske for a clarification and decided to do number 2, because that is what we have, a parallel 1 in 3 distribution.

 i dont know what to make of the ex pkmn distribution as i have only bought 6 packs, 5 of which contained ex pokemon

Premium foils, like holo rares & EX rares, should be 1 in every 3 packs. My understanding is that they are placed instead of one of the common cards in the pack.

We're aware that there have been some booster displays that have beaten those odds. There has been some research into it - it doesn't appear that other displays are lower than 1:3.

Ok then.. The first batch I bought had EX Pokemon replacing a normal non-foil rare in every 2 or so packs, along with a reverse foil and a holo foil in the SAME pack..

THAT was amazing :D

Indeed! I documented my first (and only) booster purchases (the first 12 were blister-packed from Target, the second 12 from a booster box at a game shop), and received the following (listed in order front-to-back):

C, C, C, C, C/H, U, U, RH, R
51, 71, 67, 60, 8-H, 34, 27, 10, 16 (*** - triple-star pack  )
91, 51, 61, 74, 107, 32, 48, 18, 20
92, 58, 66, 49, 105, 25, 85, 14, 24
58, 52, 73, 70, 54, 36, 35, 12, 93
91, 55, 69, 78, 50, 39, 29, 88, 22
78, 91, 51, 61, 3-H, 45, 43, 19, 101-ex (***)
76, 73, 68, 63, 9-H, 28, 87, 83, 17
52, 56, 50, 65, 3-H, 41, 27, 5, 15 (***)
92, 58, 66, 76, 4-H, 42, 41, 92, 20
54, 64, 92, 58, 66, 35, 46, 83, 100-ex
77, 90, 56, 53, 61, 32, 30, 25, 99-ex
50, 53, 59, 62, 6-H, 81, 27, 57, 23

this is the 12 in blisters, the other 12 were similar, in that the EX-holos took the placce of the rare as the last card in the pack. I got 7 EX in 24 packs, and 10 holos in the same 24 packs. 2 of those 24 packs had a holo and EX-holo in the same pack. fwiw ;)

PokePop, I recommend you buy a NEW R&S booster box (with the new distro) and see what you get. You'll get around 12 Holo/EX pokemon, total. Like others have been saying, that's a HUGE change (or switcheroo as I call it) from the original printing where you got 12 Holos and about 12 EX Pokemon in a box for a 24 total. Holos and EX Pokemon have now DOUBLED in rarity. Plus, the normal non-holo rares have risen in commonality by 50 percent. The non-holo rares are now as easy to pull as uncommons. As a collector, I think that STINKS!

EDIT:

Actually, with 34 Uncommons and 13 Rares in R&S, the chances of pulling a particular rare are 1/13. The chances of pulling a particular uncommon are 1/17. WOW!!! Uncommons are now actually more rare than Rares!!!!

Nothing new with that all the e-Card sets have had the strange distinction of Uncommons being harder to get than rares...

Ah. Now I see what you are saying.

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm sure that is the way it was meant to be all along! The original distribution is the one that was messed up.
It was kind of strange to get so many EX Pokemon and, while it was nice, it decreased their value below what they should have been. They are white stars, after all.
