Pokemon Trading Card and Video Game Regional Championship

April 14 & 15, 2012

Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton, California

We have a wonderful, large hall with seating for 500 players and 72 parents & friends. The picnic ground right out the side door is also reserved for our use. But most importantly, we’ll have two amazing days of Pokémon competition that is open to everyone who can play the games.
Event Basics

  • Online pre-registration for each day’s event will be available via EventBrite.
  • In-person registration will be from 9-10am each day, or until we have 500 registered players for that day.
  • Trading Card Championship Saturday April 14, and Sunday April 15
    • Swiss rounds (i.e. record-matched round robin) are on Saturday
    • Top-cut single elimination final rounds (i.e. the top 32 players from Saturday) are on Sunday.
  • Video Game Championship Sunday April 15
    • Swiss rounds (i.e. record-matched round robin) will be held on Sunday.
    • There are no Top-cut final rounds for Video Game
  • A Video Game practice tournament “side event” will be held on Saturday between TCG rounds.
Event Extras

  • We have reserved a PokéBus for players from L.A. to Pleasanton & Back – you can buy a ticket online via EventBrite! Note: If we don't sell enough tickets by March 29, all tickets will be refunded and the bus cancelled. Don't plan to jump on the bus at the last day... if everyone thinks like that, there won't be one.
  • Video Game Pokemon giveaways featuring fully EV trained Pokémon – see below.
  • Augmented Reality Photo Booth – get your picture taken with a 3D version of your favorite Pokémon.

We will be doing a Video Game Pokémon giveaway on Saturday, for those enrolled in the TCG event - after round 2 in the TCG trade us a Pidove or whatever, for a good Video Game Pokémon. All the Pokémon are, of course, fully EV trained in beneficial stats, they each have at least one maximum IV in a beneficial stat, and all of them will be holding berries that benefit them in some way or another.

The Pokemon to trade is chosen by randomizer:

Ninjask
Shedinja
Medicham - Ice Punch & Thunder Punch Egg Moves
Salamence - Fire Fang Egg Move + Some have Dream World Ability "Moxie"
Metagross
Darmanitan
Chandelure - Heat Wave Egg Move
Zoroark - Extrasensory & Dark Pulse Egg Moves
Mienshao
Archeops

We do have decks to loan for the TCG event. Yes, this is our way of getting Video Game players to give the TCG a shot.

AR photobooth!? Nifty. Using the 3DS or something else secret? Makes me wish I still lived in Pleasanton, but I moved away 12 years ago.

Added hotel information - see link in lead post. You need to call the hotels to get the discount by mentioning the rate and "Alameda County Fairground" when you make your reservation.

Yes, the AR photobooth is the invention of PokeGym member, R Visitor! Basically, a movable 9ft across AR code, then using the 3DS we take your photo with your favorite Pokemon at life size (or larger!). We will email players the pictures! I've put up a few examples on the front page of the event website.

^ and note that if we don't have 40 tickets sold by Mar 29, then everyone will get a prompt refund and the bus won't run this year.

If you've got 4 or more in a car that gets decent mileage, the per seat cost is less, for sure. However, the comfort and fun is higher on the bus.
  • TV with PKMN movies & possibly Wii for Super Smash Melee
  • WiFi for checking email/Facebook & 'Gym
  • Seat back tables to play test with the person next to you
  • NO driving (a thrill to some, a chore for others)
  • Transportation to/from the 4 Extended Stay hotels each day to the event

So, now you know some pros and cons. Get there in the best way for you, but GET THERE!

Cheers!

Depending, I may be attending. Still unsure where I'll be living in the next month and even still, I may prefer traveling 12 hrs to California vs the 2 hrs to Canada :/

ill be there aswell staffing this event. for those who attended CA states, i was the vendor with the Japanese Pokemon items. I am making a return trip to Japan this week to restock (some other reasons for this) and will have my friends run a booth for me. if theres any suggestions of what you want to see feel free to post.

YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET PRE REGISTERD that is soooooooooo dumb i wanna at least be able to play if i drive 12 hours to get there

3 Late-breaking tips!

First, a request - if you pre-registered and you're not coming, take a moment right now and forward me your registration info to let me cancel your registration. This will save everyone else time at the event. Thanks for your interest & hope to see you at a future event!

Second, know these essential facts:

  1. Registration BEGINS at 9:00am both days.
  2. Registration ENDS at 10:00am both days.
  3. ALL age groups play at the same time!
  4. Saturday is the Trading Card event - swiss rounds only!
  5. Sunday is the Trading Card top 32 final rounds and Video Game, all rounds.

Third, some things to be sure and do on site:

Enter the parking on Valley Avenue. Be prepared to pay $8 (one day no in & out) or $12 (both days in & out ok).

Print your pre-registration ticket and let us scan it - as soon as you arrive - at the preregistration. No waiting in long lines, just scan and GO! Pre-registered players should check in by 9:45am!

If you didn't pre-register, fill out the appropriate on-site registration form (Juniors/Pink, Seniors/Green, Masters/Blue) and turn it in at the registration desk.

DONT turn in a registration form without a Player ID - if you forgot or don't have one, see the ID desk first!

TCG Players HOLD ON to your Deck List - we'll collect it at the players meeting!

VGC Players PUT YOUR TEAM in your Battle Box - follow our directions or poster on site.
