What ever happened to Lanturn Prime?

I remember Lanturn/Eel decks doing very well at Cities(at least in my area), but seemed to drop off entirely once Next Destinies released. What ever happened to the Electric Angler?

Format too fast? Chinchou too fragile? Fear of Mewtwo?
I'd think that a pokemon with no damage ceiling, that can switch its type to hit for weakness would still be fairly decent, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Doesn't ZekEels or Darkrai face the same problems? Yet they see plenty of play. Nothing stopping a Lanturn player from playing Tornadus, TornadusEX or Zapdos to counter fighting weakness.

Eviolite protects from a retaliate. 110 HP is just too low

I think the biggest factor is not only its low hp, but the fact that its a stage 1. In today's format every single card in a deck is important. There is no room to spare, and having to waste cards due to an attacker being a stage 1 is really detrimental. In addition having a stage 1 attacker slows the deck down.

Lanturn Prime was a great tech for wall decks like The Truth or Gothitelle. When those decks went out of favor, there was no reason to tech it in anymore.
