What is a 'Legendary' Pokemon to you

Okay, I'm not sure to put this here or in Electronic Games but here it is. I'm trying to open up a weekly DS Pokemon tournament at our local card shop and I can do it but the one issue that keeps comming up is that I should ban all the 'Legendary' Pokemon. Now if you ask me, that term Legendary has be slaped on just about all rare Pokemon, like Mewtwo, Latias and Latios and a few others. In retrospect, there is only 1 Legendary Pokemon and its Arcanine but I know what them mean, which is why I ask you now what is a true Legendary Pokemon to you because I only want to ban the one the game won't let you use in the Battle Tower, not all 'Legendary' Pokemon if you know what I mean. Now lets talk about this.
 
In real VG tournaments, there is a section of Pokemon called ubers, which are banned. I will look for it and post it here.

That's the list.
 
Cuz the thing locks you in until it dies, which if you are attacking with a choice item'd pokemon, you'll most likely die from wobbuffet, or it encores you and you die, or it stalls and destiny bonds and you and you die. Plus its HP lets it survive for at least a round or 2.
 
This is the Ubers list according to "Koffing", it's probably more accurate than the Serebii one. Note, Latias is only Uber if it has a Soul Dew.

I'm not talking about uber. I'm talking about legendary. I'm trying to find out what people consider legendary.

Actually, Wobby is uber because Wobbuffet vs. Wobbuffet instantly ends the game. Neither one can switch out because they both have Shadow Tag, and neither one can do any damage until they both start Struggling.

Smart answer: He stars in a movie, ect

Real answer: Pokemon said so lol. But Deoxys is one of the few that I dont think should be legendaries, because there are multiple Deoxys. For every other Legend, its a legend because there is only 1.
 
Simple. A legendary Pokemon is a Pokemon that there are legends about. I'd add Flygon, Lucario, Unown, Dragonair, Arcanine, Xatu, Absol, and Ninetales to Pikamaster's list. Undoubtedly I've forgotten a few.

Although, I think my opinion is a bit atypical. :rolleyes:

It's not allowed in the battle facility's, you can't catch it in the game normally, you need a special download from Nintendo to get it, and it's the star in one of the Pokemon movies.

I agree, but I think that the kids asking him mean the one-of-a-kind pokemon.

But that does not make it legendary. See what I'm getting at. The term legendary get spammed for everything. I mean, Deoxys came from space. No one even knew it existed till it came right.

Not really the on of a kind Pokemon. In on of the shows, it show 2 Lugia, on of which is a baby so you know there are 3 at least. Lugia is legendary anyway.

Actually they fixed that in D/P, so if both are in play, one can be switched out I thought. That aside though, Wobby is still uber because it can still trap anything else with Shadow Tag and likely KO with Counter or Mirror Coat.

I mean in the game, it's one of a kind, and the only way to get another is to trade from another game. Anything like that seems to be classified as legendary.
 
my requirements for a legendary.

1. Rarity- they have to be rare and unable to breed to get another one. Mamphy and Phione are the only exceptions but then you can't get another Mamphy this way.

2. Story- most legendaries are mantioned by NPC as legends...

3. super ubber stats- most of them have killer stats even without EV training

Boy I'm tired or i'd come up with more
