What is the point of posting a series of '17'?

i've been on the net for a while and i've always wondered...
what does ":nonono:1717" or "<img src="http://pokegym.net/forums/images/smilies/nonono.gif">7:nonono::nonono:1717" or just "seventeen mean"?
is it just a number or like the most elaborate underground joke/ saying in the world? -.-

A post here on the pokegym (and other places too) requires 17 characters or more, to prevent spam.

People post 17 to get up to... well, you guessed it, 17 characters.

This is why, although it is not what the Pokegym needs in it's posts. The reason the limit is there to encourage good posts rather than poor posts like "Agreed. Seventeen." or "Lol - 17171717"

I agree lol seventeen

But the main point is, you don't always need 17 characters to express agreement or disagreement with a topic, so to me the min post count is kinda lame. Heck, even bots use more than 17 characters to advertise their wares (and often in broken engrish), so it's not like it's defeating that purpose. As for user spam? I guess it depends on the specific scenario, but it's not like people mostly post these days to up their post count, which isn't even viewable to the public anymore for that specific reason from long ago. Guess it depends on how you define a "good" post as well, but saying "yes" as a reply to me is just as good of a long-winded "yes I agree with [insert c/p of topic]" that you're now forcing people to likely just glaze over.

Regis_Neo may be onto something...

except I'd probably up the minimum character count. At least if we did have a "no Thanks" button.

The thanks button is for that. Maybe we need a "no thanks button"

I'd love a no thanks button or something similar...I never use the thanks button, but there are sooo many posts I'd love to downrate

Also need an evil faced smiley too.

Everyone should just use mobile style. It avoids the 17 limit.
