Everone who plays pokemon started somehow. how did you start playing pokemon.

i started at my 4th grade valanite party someone put pokemon cards in their cards (this was back in the Base set and Base set 2 Time) My first two cars were a base set charmelean and a grass energy so istarted collecting. then i phased out and 4 years later a yu-gi-oh playing friend who knew i played the card game at home and on the gameboy told me pokemon players met at the same place Yu-gi-oh met. and before i knew it i was playing pokemon again.

later that year i would get him to play pokemon to

Me i was just bored with money and i saw these kids figthing over some card and i saw them and i said hey if they figthing over those they must be good so i bought one and then i got a Hitmochan from the base set and from there i started to collect and play like crazy i was like in the 5th grade

then i left pokemon like in the 8th grade and played Yu-Gi-Oh! which was hot then it got to expensive and to crazy here in NYC and came back to pokemon to where i am now

NICE THREAD

got bored one day and thought, "hey, i bet i could be good at this card game" so i did and i have the best friends ever, its how i met my gf, and i really am good at it.

I blame my friend Nik at primary school (Year 5) who got me into Pokemon. He taught about trading and helped me when trying to determine the fairness of trades when people took cards to school.
(Gosh, who would trade Super Scoop up rare and Imposter Oak (um, not sure the other rare) for a common Vulpix just because they thought it was a 'cute' card? I didn't know the value of trainers because I didn't play at that point.) After 7 or so years, I'm in Year 12 and still playing the TCG.

Man, it's been ages. I got into it like right when it started, so I was probably in grade... six or so. Maybe five. In any case, I'm pretty sure it's just a case of me seeing the animé and finding it interesting. I even remember what episode it was, the one where Jessie and James destroyed the Pokémon Centre and Ash went on to, uh, I think it was Viridian City, finding "one of the Bug Pokémon," i.e. Caterpie, and Misty freaked out and Ash caught it anyway.

I only saw the tail end of the episode, but I was like, "Uh... what?" since it wasn't like anything I'd seen before. I think I got into the TCG a bit a while later. I had a really weird homebrew Haymaker style deck that didn't even make sense strategically (it used Kangaskhan and, of all things, Lickitung, which I thought was cute). For a shameless plug, that was about the time I started writing the original SS—prequel series to the current one, where Alex was 10 on his journey to Become A Pokémon Master(tm) and a solid 90% of the current cast didn't exist yet, just Sam and David, although they were totally different, and the Neo League was nothing at all. I decided the TCG wasn't worth it around the time Gym 1 came out, and subsequently got into Magic a couple of years later. However, it's worth noting I didn't write any bad fanfics based on Magic.

So yeah, that's my story of how I got into Pokémon.

Let's see, I was 10. Some of my friends liked the show and the gameboy games. I watched an episode of the show at one's house and watched another play the gameboy game. I thought the gameboy game was okay, but never got more into it. One of my friends threw a pokemon themed birthday party. They rented a bunch of gameboys and blue and red versions. They also bought everyone packs of base set. I got immediatly hooked to the gameboy game and I liked the art on the cards, but didn't get into the TCG right away.

I don't remember exactly who, but some of them told me to buy a theme deck to get started. A few weeks and trades later I'm going to a league with 3 decks built, buying about 3 packs a week. But after about 2 and a half months, and going home from league with 3-7, 2-6 records and the likes, I was getting discouraged. So around when gym heroes released, I stopped going to league.

My cards were collecting dust in my closet for about 4 years, but they stayed in decent condition due to the blockbuster zip-up binder I had gotten.

It's September of 2004. One weekend I go to spend the night at my friend Lee's house. Lee was still playing the TCG, and invited me to go his league. He said the game was better now, and that the people were nicer. So I go, and I meet a bunch of new friends right away. Jeff (Dago-Dad), Matt (Rep13), Kevin (The Fat Kid) and Nick (Darksight 530). Matt let me borrow his Machamp deck for the day. Supporters, not drawing if you went first, dice over coins. All of this was new, and I was hooked all over again.

And the rest of my history as a player has all been posted here pretty much. ;p

Into pokemon as a whole I got a Charizard in my first base set pack, but into OP I saw somthing about a state championship in Norwich UK last year - I went and I qualified for nationals and have stayed in OP since then.

Birthday party, 7th grade. The person who was holding it gave a theme deck to each person who came as a "goodie bag". I still have the holo that came from my theme deck, Kangaskhan.

my cousin tried to get me into it when it first came out, iwas in the first or second grade, i was real iffy about it but then he told me how to play. i played with my firends for a few years then, my cousin quit and i got bored, so yugioh, but now lately i've been coming in the top 8 at yugioh all the time(locally). So ive gotton a little bored now one of my best friens and his brother are helping me relearn again, even cooler is i get to go to a prerelease this weekend, wish me luck

Bullados thats funny and cool at the same time so i am gonna laugh

I started to play in 1st grade or second. My fist card was a Alakazam. I started getting into OP when it first started. I have loved it ever since.

All has to do with my immature, messed up ex-babbysitter who played red version. I already was a slight fan of the anime, and was excited to play it. I then pestered my mom to the edge of the eart"I wanna yellow version!"
so I started and somehow my yellow version got stolen after my bro's birthday party. then came silver , crystal and the rest is history!

I had already been obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog and Yoshi, Kirby, and Zelda for years, and I considered my self to a "video game fan" (though it was only before N64 came out)..
I got a promotional video in the mail before pokemon came out here and I obsessed over it ever since..

I remember seeing that video sitting on the table for a few days but I wasn't sure if it was for me or not so I didn't touch it but I wanted to soooo bad >_>;; I was in 6th grade at the time

The next day at school I was asking all the people if they'd heard of Pokemon and this one kid who got nintendo power said he had... From then on it was really just a matter of getting my hands on ALL THINGS POKEMON that I could find...the thing about the cards was, I knew about them but I could never find any in stores until jungle came out...
I remember my first rare in my first booster pack was a pokemon breeder XD

Horray for my pokemon life story!! It all started back in 99. I was in 2nd grade and kids were tradeing during lunch and recess. I wanted some cards so I bought a base set pack. Later that night I bought another pack at my local video store for $5! I was facinated by the cards. I got my best friend into it too. We spent every penny we had on them. Soon enough I had the biggest collection in the school and my friend the 2nd biggest. We learned to play together, but no one else in the school knew how to play. Eventually it was banned and the card game died out at Ashville Elementary School. So only me and my friend played. We, now in 8th grade, are still the only people that still play. But before that, back in 5th grade I decieded to pick up my old cards and play again (after taking a break during that e-reader crap) and Played in my first tournament- Super BattleZone finishing 3rd. That was the yea I got all my old friends back into the game. The game wasn't banned so we played at recess. Then we hit middle school. They dropped it and I kept playing, not as much but still playing. Then in 2005 I picked the game up again full swing at an Emerald Pre. Where I pulled my favorite card of all time- Medicham Ex, which is still the deck I play. Then after that I competed in- Nationals, 2 Cities, 2 States and 1 Regional. Ok well thanks for reading my ramble.

First tgime i ever heard of the game was thourgfh my nephew as he was going to league and ifigured I would go and check it out, shortly after that Iwas hooked! Infact that is how I became friends with pokemonpat as he was the league leader at the time. Now we have a league hre in my town where he is the TO and I am the league leader.

I bought a few packs because Pokemon had always intersted and remebered that there was a game for the cards. We found the Pokemon-tcg website, learned how to play the game, bought an ex Trainer Kit, practiced at home, went to the Deoxys pre-release, and learned about a League. That is how I got into Pokemon OP.
