Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What! Toys R Us demoing Pokemon? Is this a good idea.

This "demo" appeared to be nothing but filling out a booklet of crossword puzzles and various other puzzles. I got the promo for sitting down and playing a game with another player. They sent promos, booklets and two theme decks with no instructions to my toys r us. This seems odd...

My TRU store said they're doing another Pokemon League in July.

They're "all" doing Pokemon League again on 24 July - this is the 'beginning' of monthly Pokemon League days at TRU (if participation warrants, I'll bet)...

I went to the Florida Mall TRU, and it started out rough, but I kinda took over. As it turns out, the TRU employee gave me some mats, some promos, the coins from the starter decks, the Dark Celebi and Jirachi, and even the Frame that was part of the Target promo.

So, my little group had fun.

What's new about that? That's always been Pokemon USA policy! Save less paper by almost never sending any crucial instructions or guidelines about any sort of event. Of course whenever instructions are sent, they're printed on 100% recycled paper. Bunch of treehuggers...

The other possibility is that TRU decided to do something other than what Nintendo would have wanted them to do and came up with their own plan.
It seems like it would have been easy for PUI to send them League kits if that was the plan.

I went to the one in Chino CA there were only about 6 people there, 4 of them were playing Yu-Gi-Oh and the other two didn't know how to play pokemon. So it pretty much sucked, the best part of it was getting the promos and leaving.

Mine went okay. I went and found out that people have a lot of Pokemon cards-at home. I'll have to go again next week even though it's not Pokemon week.

Mine wasn't much better. When I got there I found a couple of tables set outside with a TRU employee. I don't think she knew what was going on. She said that they didn't have any promos or decks because they hadn't got their package of stuff. My friends and I were the only ones there at the time so we decided to hang around awhile to see if anyone else would show up. After about an hour the number had risen to about 7 people and TRU found the package that they had recieved after all. Since they only had 2 decks they went into the store and got an assortment of other decks so instead of playing a HL deck I ended up playing a sandstorm deck:rolleyes:.

Just as Lex Luthor Said, I'm going to say my half of the story.

I went to the one in blossom hill,CA. we got up there and they said they didn't have any. we asked for any other toysrus' with the beldum so the dude behind the counter called some. In the meantime we got some mats and cases. There weren't ANY toysrus' with the beldums. Just as we were about to leave, the guy found the beldums behind the printer.:colorless_:colorless

Well...

I went to the Toys R Us in Federal Way...

The TRU employee was set up with the play mats, promo cards but he was running a Yugioh tournament. There were about 6-8 players. I got one of the frames and the kids got the promos... Another member of our league went to the Toys R US at South Center. He was given the two theme decks....Aother dad was given some of the play mats and He gave them to me to use in the future...

A so so event I must say....

i went to the one in boise, idaho and they had some tables out and 6 or 7 players showed up and the guy running it didnt know anything about pokemon so people kept making mistakes and stuff it wasnt that good

Brookfield was a real let down.

The only people there were from our league already established (10 of us showed up). The guy somewhat knew what he was doing. And they were running YGO league during the same exact time. We were given one small table in a corner near the store's exit to play at. We had to fill out the booklet to get the promo... EVEN THOUGH THERE WASN'T A PLAYER YOUNGER THAN 12 THERE! We all finally got our Beldums (what a let down... more alternate art...). And we sat there doing absolutely nothing for the next 2 hours.

Later, the guy came over to us and wanted to know if we be interested in a bi-monthly league there. Unfortunatly for me, I already live an hour from Brookfield and my mom wouldn't be any happier about driving their twice a week at night... Hopefully they keep it once-a-month, and hopefully they keep it on weekends (I think our TRU is pretty independant compared to the other ones).

And was it just me, or were the "instructions to play" wrong (or at least in the wrong order) in the booklet thingy?

mine was great. the person who ran it also ran Yu-Gi-Oh, and i assume ( I just moved to NJ two years ago) that the person also used to run the Pokemon league there when it was still owned by wizards. because there were few people, each person got 5 beldums, but he kept the starter decks because he and his little brother (who was there) wanted them. TRU isn't supposed to keep the decks, either they give the cards out to the public or the person who ran it keeps them. they really knew what they were doing. everyone also got the special play mats, an activity book, and that card frame that was sold at target.

I went to two of them. The first was pretty nice, with two people there when I showed up at about 9:50 playing each other. One had an Unl deck, the other a Mod deck, both players 10-, a sorely missed age group in this area. I left my deck in the car, thinking that it would just be a demonstration, and the leader gave me a half deck of Forest Guardian to play against him with. After I beat him with it, he gave me my Beldum promo and I left relatively happy.

The second one that I went to was much more disappointing. They had a YGO league going on at the same time, and the two leaders seemed completely oblivious to the fact that there were actually people there who wanted to play Pokemon. I asked them what I needed to do in order to get the promo, and they said that I had to play a game and fill out some packet. I again left my deck in the car, thinking that they would give me another half deck to play with. No dice there. Then, when they refused to give me my promo, I started talking to the other two Poke players at the place, asking them if they wanted to join in a tournament. The one leader stared at me hard and said angerly, "no soliciting," at which point I just left them cold.

The first was a fair success, aside from the leader not really knowing how to play the game, for which he apologized and was extremely helpful in working with the two kids who were there. The second was utterly horrible, and that particular TRU will never get any of my business ever.
