The things that will "surprise" at states obviously aren't going to be talked about.
But there are a few obvious combos from Platinum:
Slaking/Dialga G LV.X/Memory Berry
Bastiodon/Leftovers/Metal Energy/Blissey/Other forms of healing and damage reduction. It NEVER DIES.
T1 Rampardos
Mightyena/Skuntank G
Toxicroak G/Skuntank G
Manectric/Ampharos
Blastoise/Delcatty
Giratina Lv.X, Shaymin Lv.X and Palkia G Lv.X will all be very popular, as will all of the new stadiums and trainers we'll be getting. In the past, secret decks for states or regionals have been counters to whatever was popular at cities. I don't know if that will work this year, with so many interesting combos coming out in our pre-states set, but we'll see.
The best thing to do at States is to just play a deck you're very familiar with. Give it a few quirky personal touches to make it a little bit unpredictable and harder to counter. And above all make sure your deck is extremely consistent.
