Where in the world did Brock (and Dawn) go?

I think they should switch the positions of "mentor and noob" for each generation. Like Brock was mentoring Ash so now Ash has become the master and should mentor another noob while Brock goes and retire or something. Then that cycle just continues on and on for each new generation.

My suggestion....

1. You can make 2 series - one for old school fans who want to reminisce about the past and want to watch Misty, Brock and Ash get lost, and lost, and lost

2. Bring back characters - though there would be a big feud about who to bring back... Oak, Gary, Misty, Brock, May, Max, Drew, Harley, Dawn, Ritchie, Tracey etc....

3. Don't watch the show if you are going to complain that "So and so isn't back" etfc

4. They just have a show with JUST Ash to see how his training goes, and in the end, has a big tournament with all his rivals. This can bring back Butterfree, Primeape, Haunter and all his pokemon who he left or gave away.

...which has nothing to do with what was just said.

I brought up that Brock was brought back because your earlier post glossed over it, and as a reminder he does have some fan pull.

I expressed my displeasure at his being removed from the show while Ash was kept.

Ash is the main character. Brock like everyone else is a side character, thus easily replaceable. I understand if he's your favorite character but personal preference doesn't affect whether a character is truly still useful in the show.

The last time Brock truly felt relevant was the Johto saga. Once the Hoenn seasons began the focus of the show shifted to Ash being slightly more mature and to May and the Contests, and then to Dawn and finally Iris and Cilan.

Even though Brock stayed for Hoenn and Sinnoh, was was practically invisible for most of it. Other than flirting with girls and explaining Ash's battles to May and Dawn, he very rarely did anything else. His role had diminished greatly to the point where he hardly even battled or captured pokemon anymore.

If they had actually kept Brock interesting like he was in the first few seasons I may have liked him more and missed him on the show. But after DP I was just ready for him to go.

Here's the thing:

You're acting like there was this deep storyline.

There wasn't. Well, most of the time, anyway. ;)

All the characters are easily replaceable. It is a cookie-cutter plot. At best you can claim that the latest game's cast are not replaceable while their game's story remains to be told... but Ash isn't from the newest game.

Brock wasn't as important as I would have liked; this is part of why I found myself watching the show less and less. His leaving just cemented it for me; I only watch the show when it is convenient, and as I lack cable that is quite infrequent. Getting back to the point, making Brock relevant was the writer's responsibilities; they failed, just like they can (and probably will) fail to keep any of the cast culled from the Black & White games relevant.

tl;dr: All the characters are easily replaceable in Pokémon. I enjoyed Brock's character. You didn't. End of story.
