Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Whicker's Bickers - Round 2 (2007 Edition)

i'm sure people from Lousiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Florida are willing to drive....so why not Oklahoma ?!....It's not that far gosh !....I'll even give any oklahoman's a ride if I don't get a ride with birch....just as long as you Oklahoman's admit that UT is better than OU lol

less competition then =/

... and it continues. Texans only thinking about themselves. I mean come on people, with the world-invite system that we have this year, don't you think that us Oklahomans would WANT to play in a premier event? I cannot believe that I do not have more people on my side on this. The only reasonable explanation that I can think of for siding with Houston is to fuel your own self-centered thoughts such as, "less competition then."

There's a difference between the few of those and the situation with most Oklahomans. For example, GymLeaderPhil, John Silvestro and Heidi Craig come down here because they are adults (meaning they have the ability to get up and go where ever they choose). Stephen just gets the benefit of coming along with his dad. This is also the reason why the Roys are considering coming. Roy Sr. can make the drive if he wants and Roy Jr. gets that benefit.
However, since I am only 17, my parents do not let me drive to Texas alone, so therefore I have to rely on them for rides, meaning they'd have to take me to Houston. However, neither of my parents want to make a seven hour drive to SIT AROUND AND DO NOTHING FOR 6 HOURS while I play. I mean there isn't much to do, especially since this isn't taking place in the Space Center where at least my dad got to look around at stuff. Not to mention that I doubt Pokemon is very fun for anyone to watch unless you are an avid follower of the game like any of us. This applies to many people here. Parents simply don't want to drive seven hours, sit around for six, spend money on a hotel, and then drive for another seven. I don't expect them to, either.
The ONLY way in which this argument would be legitimate would be if a vast majority of Floridans came down or a majority of people from Alabama or Mississippi. I assure that isn't the case.

Yall Texans are selfish. This is like me saying "Regionals should be in Oklahoma so that I have a better chance to win." Now, that really wouldnt be fair. Dallas IS the best place for this. There is no doubt....3 hours from just about any oart of this region. Mike needs to worry more about the OTHER part of the region, than just Houston. Having regionals in Houston is like saying our regionals are actually in New York City... He needs to worry about us. We are JUST as important as yall, and we DESERVE the chance to go to worlds.

Not much I can say that hasn't already been said, so I won't take someone's time to explain petty detailes and small imperfections of this Regionals. The only thing that I can say is to the people that attend this thread is this:

"Move it to Dallas next year. You will get more players, I can guarantee you of that. You can do whatever you want this year, as it has already been set, hotels been rented, and travel-logs booked. But if you move it to Dallas next year, I will come, Jordan and Tyler will, and many other players of this region will come. It won't be too much out of most of this year's attendees way to go to Dallas, and it will make the entire region happy."

I do not care if you overlook this post, ignore it's meaning, or whatever else you can think of to do to it. I just wanted to let this thread's audience know how some of the region's members outside of Texas felt. I know that Jordan has been arguing hard against the location of this Southern Plains Regionals, and that several others have as well. They have brought up valid points, and I ask for the organizers of this Regional to reconsider for next year.

i'll give ya'll that.... Dallas really is the best location for Regionals.....It was really nice to have Regionals here though.... the convention center had plenty of room and was freakin sweet........We can't change it so no need to complain. Next year it most likely will be in Houston again as long as the numbers come up big just as last year did....

Is this enough for you guys? I mean, how many more people do I have to get to agree with me before the point will become clear enough?

Isn't the PTO supposed to appeal to the greatest number of players possible, not necesarilly the players across a certain area?

If he can hit 300 in Houston, and only 200 in Arlington, it's in the best interests of Pokemon to host the tournament in Houston. To facilitate the needs of the majority, not the minority.

If it costs 100 or so players to make it accessible to like 30 more people, I don't think it's a wise choice to make. How long is the drive to Houston from Oklahome anyways?

While we welcome your logic, past experience (re: Southern Plains Regionals 2006 thread) shows that it will have absolutely no effect on the complaints being voiced. I, too, would prefer that the Regionals be in Arlington (approx. 40 minutes from my house), but I understand that the game benefits from serving the largest number of people possible. I think Mike did a huge service to the game last year, attracting over 250 people to the regional event. Thus, I will again this year drive the three hours to Houston in the hopes that we can merely match the numbers we pulled in last year. If we get just one more, I will consider the event a huge success, regardless of the number of Oklahomans in attendance.

Again, showing your selfish ness. How is it 'good for the game' to attract a bunch of little 10 year olds who prolly wont be playing in 2 years? BTW Ryan, the drvie from Oklahoma City to Houston is ~7 hours

Choosing a 3-hour drive over a 40-minute drive is hardly selfish. And, BTW, you're welcome to come down to Dallas anytime you wish and have a roundtable with Master Professor Birch, Danny Fish and myself regarding our selfishness. Heck, call up Old Man and ask him how selfish he thinks we are.

All these same arguments were made last year, and I imagine both sides will have just as much impact as they did on the other side as last year. I'm in it for the long haul, for the good of the game overall, and I'll take my chances with that bunch of little 10-year olds. The Masters division isn't in sole possession of loyalty to the game.

Again thats who pokemon wants to get to start playing, the younger crowd. Parents will take their kids wherever they want to go. My family is driving from San Antonio to Oklahoma for a state championship so whats the difference of Oklahoma players driving from wherever in oklahoma to houston.

Also why wouldn't Dallas players want Regionals in Dallas, no drive for them. Being from San Antonio I want regionals to be held here so no drive for my family.

Again pokemon wants more players and younger players, if Houston is the best place for this to happen it is going to continue to be in Houston.

Parents will take their kids wherever they want to go.
Sorry, but you are wrong on that my friend. My parents will not drive 7 hours for me to play in a Pokemon tournament. Heck, they'll barely even drive me the 2 hours to go to Del City. I'm not trying to be rude, but just because your parents or you will drive 7 hours does not mean that others will, or even the majority will.

Not to be rude but to bad for you.

You say or even the majority, how do you know this statistic, again just because your parents don't drive you doesn't mean other parents won't drive their kids. You say your parents will barely drive you 2 hours to go to Del City, so if it was in Arlington isn't that a little over 3 hours from Oklahoma.
