Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Who else is sitting out nats?

The format right now is not good. Playing at Nats will be a risk, but we've got the same format for Worlds. This is your one premier event to test for Worlds. I'd say play it out.

Yeah you(both) have a point.
Even if I lose the first round (third, actually), I need to win twice to get to the same rating I started with.
Just as long as I don't pull a chicken boo at nats I think thats do able. (even with chicken prolly do able)
Yeah playing nats is sounding good right about now LOL.
;P

It's crossed my mind. I've got money from states. I'm going for sure as everything is already booked. I'm 1868 in seniors so I've for sure got an invite and the format is a lil sketchy imo. But the way I see it, I'm in invite range for a reason, time to prove that I deserve that spot at nationals.

Also got a bit of a sour taste in my mouth from last year when I got shafted out of TC on resistance when first 3 opponets went 8-19. Plus last year in Seniors so time to make a name for myself. You should attempt to do the same.

Wow, you know you're in a nice community when people that could be playing against you in a couple days are trying to encorage you to save your own spot at worlds :p

jokes aside, yes, play at nats.

You better play bc when you check in to receive your check, you are registered for the event. As a Reg. winner, you get a 2 rd bye. When rd 3 gets posted, you will be on the list AFAIK. Maybe they would allow you to not register to get your free room and trip. Seems like P!P can require you to play at least a rd or make you pay for your room. The trip was to go to Nats to play.

You had better check with customer service before you travel if you are thinking about mot playing. I'm not positive if you receive the other "goodies" if you dont play at all.

PS Without looking at the ratings, I dont think 1828 will stand up to stay top 40 in NA. The topcutters at Nats will all pass you, most likely, although some may already be ahead of you. Also, with a 2 rd bye, you should avoid all the random jank in the 1st 2 rds.

It's more like a test for the best coin flippers.

If thats the format as you think it is then wouldnt you think there are really good players out there working on minimizing the coin flip risk...

I bet there are decks coming that people will go...man...why am I not playing that...its so obvious...they may not win..but will top cut and cause the expected archetypes fits

Couldn't you just drop during a round where you have a bye though?

@gallade are you?
you have rating.

Yeah.
Before it was top 40 in NA to get the invite, the 40th placed senior was around 1840.
But when it has been top 40 in NA, it usually is around 1810. (my friend got in with 1808 or something last year)

im going beacuse i have such a high rating that i can afford to lose a couple games.

I wish I could say that I'm just choosing ot sit out but I am in no position to go to Nationals this year. It sucks even more since the location is only a few hours away from where I live.

Maybe next year...

Do you think you're more likely to win worlds than nats?

If not, skipping nats to go to worlds is an awful idea. If I sat out nats, I'd be sure to have an invite, but US nats is every bit as spectacular an event as worlds. I'd rather win nats than worlds tbh.

Imagine you sit out nats and then miss cut at worlds. Was that really so great? If you actually lose points because of nats you can still grind.

If nats were a Sableye format, I would have sat it out (basically tried to drop during my byes, but if that didn't work I was fully prepared to donk someone with Sableye then drop). The format right now is simply AWFUL, but it isn't Sableye and unlike in a potential Sabledonk nats, we are most definitely stuck with the same format for worlds. So I'd play it out.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking.
;P

The format is meh but its not like it will improve by worlds anyway. ;(
And I think I can at least maintain my current rating unless somehow I go worse than 6-3.

A. You are very good at the game.
B. How many times does someone have a realistic chance of being named National Champion at ANYTHING?
C. If you show, you had better be sporting that Yeti Shirt. I have a new one for you for this year, see me during the event.
D. Your points are very unlikely to stand up to Nationals, given that we also have Canadian Nationals which will further increase the points "bump"
E. Your ONLY chance to win a trip to Worlds...occurs at Nationals.

Thanks,

Vince

Anything lower than 7-2 is going to see you drop points. The trick to increasing an already high ranking is just not losing, considering it wipes out about 3 wins. It depends if you want to try and win a couple of games then drop, or play out the whole tournament.

Yeah.
I'm almost definatly playing.
@vince-I'll be playing with a yeti mat (possibly the gold one) and I'll try to get a shirt!

If you sit out on nats then I will lose the very little respect that I had for you before. Anyways, it just seems like you've made this thread to brag about your points and winning regionals(mentioning paid trip). If you are good enough to play at worlds then you'd think that you would be good enough to keep a safe rating.

I am sitting out the Canadian Nats... T_T...brand new player. Have my deck but missing 2 cards that should have come in the mail already (darn postal strike) not to mention I'd get smashed because of the lack of knowledge.
