Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Why are people playing Lasers AND Hammers in their Darkrai decks?

Don't read too much into those results, folks. Yes, you can't ignore it, bur you have to remember that a LOT of the best players were at the ECC.

Hypnotoxic Laser is in Plasma Storm. The ECC didn't include Plasma Storm.

If you read the post, you would've noticed that I listed placings for a tournament that included Plasma Storm, which is why Plasma Toolbox and Cobalion/Klinklang made appearances.

Manchester CC was post-ECC and post-Plasma Storm.

Two Darkrai/Lasers made top 8. I don't think either of them played Hammers (the one I played against didn't for sure).

Sorry, I didn't read your post very carefully. My mistake.

I can't be 100% but I think the hammertime didn't play lasers (if he could confirm would be nice!)

That was my brother - he didn't run any Hammers, just Darkrai with Hypnotoxic Lasers and Virbank City Gyms. We figured that not many people would have the cards to build Klinklang in time for the tournament (it was three or four days after the release of Plasma Storm I think), and that it was OK to run a deck without any direct counter to it, as long as it had solid matchups against everything else. That turned out to be true, he just got unlucky to face the only Klinklang player in the Top 2.

Ah okay thanks. I was just told by someone he was playing hammertime, I assume he just saw Sableye Darkrai and assumed it was hammertime.

Well now with Plasma Box in full force..hammers are definitely a solid idea to stop Lugia or Thundurus from throwing energy around nonstop.

I would personally move away from Crushing Hammer, but still play 2 Enhanced Hammer. Crushing Hammer is not as impactful against decks that can attack with a single Energy card(Big Basics), or decks that have many different attacker options (TDK).

Laser is pretty much a staple trainer at this point. It's a triple Pluspower with upsides if there's a Virbank in play, and Darkrai kinda needs the damage. 90 damage for 3 energy is not impressive at all. The ability to get them back with Sableye to decide longer games with is also pretty valuable. Laser/Catcher stall is lame, but it definitely wins games.
