Why are sunglasses illegal

Note: I'm speaking for my events, including Masters at Worlds.

I cannot speak for Head Judges at other events.
They can interpret the Spirit of the Game rules differently than I do.
That does not make them wrong.

I think the best example of people interpreting things differently and not being wrong is on a case by case basis. If I came to be known as Jimmy "Cheating Sunglasses" O'Brien, most players would hope I would not be allowed to wear my cheating shades.

Jaeger: I think you're referring to what we like to call, "Disguise Glasses" and I'm pretty sure I've worn them for some event (but its tough because they don't fit my head right). I think 'normal clothing' is just as subjective as 'spirit of the game' but adds complexity where there need be none.

Why would someone ban something because they reflect the hand of the bearer?

This. Aren't you allowed to show your opponent your hand if you want to?

If a player would hurt himself through his actions, why is he barred from doing so? It's his choice is it not?

Actually the police will come along and take you to a mental home if you are doing that kind of thing in pulic. They've done it a few times on Cops.

Late one night a friend and I were walking around the great City of Ames, it was past midnight and we saw a McDonalds, they were obivously closed but there drive through was open. We figured we would grab a shake or something and continue our walk. So we walked up and ordered on the board we walked up to the drive through and they refused to give us our food. Apparently we had to have a vechicle to use the drive through, now since neither of us wanted to walk several miles to get one our cars and than drive back. We started asking question as to what constiuted a vechicle after about 10 mins, we had the guy talked down to "at least one wheel which we were able to propel forward." I know kind of little side story but the moral is people are going to keep pushing this envelope. I would hope POP would think about taking a stronger stance on this perhaps, "Things that are not requried to play the game and do not fall under the catagory of normal clothing" If I am allowed to wear sunglasses, can I wear the funny looking classes that have the big nose and bushy eyebrows?

So a unicycle can be used at a drive-through? I want to see that now.

I think he was asking why headphones were banned not if any electronic devices were allowed or not :/

I where glasses (shutta shades ftw) for fun sometimes and I always where a hat and/or hood whenever possible. Some may think it is idiotic but, it could potentially hide your facial expression which can win you a game. I personally do it for fun and where Hats/glasses/hoodies outside of the Pokemon world because I like them lol.

I rock the shutta shades sometimes too lol. I have green, red, and white ones. I've never been told you can't wear them.

I wore them one year at Nats.

Not given any trouble at all, except by an opponent who complained he could see my hand, to which I retorted, "so you know you are going to lose, eh?" (also had an intense headache from the light, but I digress)

Good times, good times.

For the point made that "sunglasses make it so my bluffs look like bluffs" I have one thing to say: Get a poker face. :) It doesn't have to be a serious face, but find an expression that feels natural that you can hold for a while. Then practice keeping that expression while playing. Works a lot better than sunglasses, since your 'bluff' does you no good if you tilt your head and your opponent sees you don't have any power sprays. Plus, good face readers can see the muscles around your eyes and tell what your eyes are saying anyway. so unless you come to your match in a full ski mask, I don't see how the glasses help.

You should be able to wear them for medical reasons (Light-induced migraines, as mentioned above). You should not wear them to make yourself look slick. XD You're playing Pokemon, foo, most people over 30 knock you out of the 'slick' category faster than you can say 'Pikachu.'

Sunglasses are OK at my events too. Bandanas used to cover up the face, nope...(unless it is my Halloween time PR!)

Interesting question about the fake beard.

Are you wearing it just because you can't grow a real one?

LOLz...sorry, I had to say it, it was just OUT THERE, and NATURAL....

See you at Worlds Jay!!!

Thats hilarious Vince because I can't stand beards, I didn't have time to shave yesterday so when I went to shave this morning I had a nice one coming in. I made it 36 hours into no shave Novemeber before I couldn't take it anymore and shave, ironically I still had more in that 36 hours than most of my friends had that first week.

I just pointing out how people will constantly going try to push the limits to try to gain what they believe is an advantage. How about can I wear a dress to try and give myself some sort of psycholical advantage? How about a Speedo? How much cleavage is to much for girls?

How much cleavage is to much for girls?

Not to be an insensitive dolt, but you did ask the question. What is your answer?

(I haven't had infraction points for a while, I kind of miss them I guess)

Pushing the limit yet again with a question...

What they wouldn't accept at an elementary school, probably shouldn't be accepted at a tournament with kids of that age IMO.

I have a sense of humor so if it happened to me I would probably just say I've seen better and tell them to button up.
