while the judges were very prompt in arriving to the table and quickly marked down game winners, I'm curious why we as players can't be trusted to fill out our own match slips

It varies according to how the Tournament Organizer prefers to run things. Some events run one way, some events run another. So I'm just contributing the fact that it's not a tournament rule...any answer you get will be an opinion.

Maybe the TO is tired of having 2-3 games every round that have two winners or two losers which delay pairings for 20 minutes while they figure it out. Personally, I'd just issue double game losses for every incorrectly filled out match slip, but these TOs are nicer than I am.

Don't know what that has to do with filling out the results of each game in the series, FunnyBear. I can much more understand wanting a judge to fill out the final slip, but each game of a series is excessive.

Most events have runners confirm the content of the match slips, which should eliminate issues with them being incorrectly filled out.

Could be just to make sure the slips get turned in. I can't tell you how many times while walking around while judging i find match slips just sitting on the table with no one around. Some filled out and some not. And from all age groups.

Practically every game I've played in we get to fill out our own match slips, I guess the judges in the UK trust us. We hardly ever have a judge confirm the result of the game with the players, they just presume that we're right, but then again I hardly see people fill in the match slip wrong.

We had judges or runners mark the slips at Idaho States for each win so that there wouldn't be any controversy on who won what game, it was also done this way at Utah states as well. In our area this was our first foray into the B of 3 series so we just wanted to make sure there were less problems. In the future we will probably let the players take responsibility for this and if problems arise revisit the issue. Funnybear's idea has some merit.
