Why do we need Professors?

It seems even not possible for everyone to get the Professor pin and card. I didn´t get it, I emailed PUI the way it was described here in pokegym, but still have no answer, as usual.

@topic: Professors are certified judges and I think, it is very helpful for store owners to know, who they can ask, if they need a certified judge. It´s as easy as this. But as long as there is no way to be certified...

Professor Program ...

I'd have 3 levels ... Grand Master Professor, Master Professor & Professor.

Each level can only be attained by being the previous level for a set period (Prof to Master 6 months, Master to Grand 1 year) & passing the exam with a higher pass mark required. The exam would be 100 questions & each pass level would be Prof 70%, Master 80% & Grand Master 90%.

Fail a level when trying to move up & you stay the your current level & can only try again after a stand down period (Prof 2 months, Master 4 months & Grand 8 months). Retesting would be every year on the aniversary of the level you are on. Fail to pass the requirements for your current level & you drop down to the next level, with the same conditions as the stand down periods (this is different to Magic which has no retesting).

I'm currently a Master prof & might fail to keep that status under this system, but this would create respect for the Professor Program (I'd be proud to make & retain any level). It would lead into rewards like ONLY Professors staffing / judging the Major events (Worlds being the obvious ... starting with PUI staff then Grand Master Profs, Master Profs & finally Profs until it's fully staffed).

Grand Masters could be included as part of the Rules Team & be consulted (via email if required) in any meetings of the team. Players would respect any rulings as they would know what it takes to become a professor of any level.

The professor Program provides compensation for players to become knowledgible judges instead of just playing, which might hurt the game. Seriously, if I wasn't a Prof, I'd never care to judge.

Without Professors? What kind of world would this be when Professors can't flash others in their lab coats?

A very sad one... a very sad one.

I will be fascinated to see what they come up with.

At this point. There are no professors with any real credence behind their names.

There are those of us who run leagues and events. We have already "selected" our group of judges and assistants, professors or not, to assist us in our events.

I am sure that at Worlds there we a number of non-professors judging. This has been true at every major event.

I am just glad a lot of my players have "graduated" to wanting to run events and judge for me instead of always having to play. Makes for a great situation - professors or not.

We shall see, we shall see.

MP Juggie- demonstrating the proof that he deserves the title. Proof... Professor... Coincidence?
Look if the only benefit from the professor program is that it creates an avenue for newer players to channel thier intrest then it's a good thing. Stop the "What's in it for me?" with this! If the only reward for becoming a professor is the title it's self then when it comes back around then I'll be glad to wear it again (yes I said again b/c WOTC sent me my card but w/ the wrong name on it and while I was trying to get it fixed they lost the contract and just dropped me, I'm not in POP's system and wasn't able to re-up my Professorship, and I'm not the only one who this happened to)

We need a system that formally trains new volunteers more so than a program that rewards judges. That's nice and should happen, but when asked at the Worlds Side Events area if anyone could judge Unlimited, the majority of volunteers said they could not. Someone working there said that Sneasel was banned in Unlimited and as such, made players remove them from their deck. That is simply pathetic.

And when I say training, I mean on-site work with a PTO/Professor at a premiere event, not a multiple choice questionaire. It's apparent that the WotC system did not work, because we have oodles of Professors who are running events incorrectly.
