Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Why don't all of the Japanese cards come out in English?

'Beach wasn't around back then, but the Gym was, as was Pojo, Pokeschool, and others.
Believe me, people knew about the VS set. They just didn't care about it too much.

Vending series cards, though.... now those people cared about and were upset that we only saw a very few of them eventually as promos.
I myself, however, was around back then, and I remember on the message boards I used to go to that people were angry about it (such as the PokeMasters). I wasn't on this side of the community (Gym, Pojo, Pokeschool, etc.), but more on the anime/gaming side, and people thought WOTC didn't make them because they weren't compatible with the cards already released (I forgot why they thought that, though). But yeah... people still wanted them to be printed... I remember that people wanted them to release the good cards as promos.

Uh... we ARE getting every card released in Japan (Excluding Promos).
Just be patient, for crying out loud.
PUI/POP/Overlord Schwimmer decided to rearrange Japan's DP3-DP5 a bit and extend them to span our DP3-DP6.
We're going to get all the cards by our sixth DP set. Don't freak out.

I buy a ton of cards from Japan. I can safely say that you haven't any idea what you're talking about. We miss LOADS of stuff. I'm not just talking about VS series and promos. We don't get what they get, we won't get what they get. They have a larger format, better value on cards, better cards, better events, more cards, and everything else we could ever want, and we won't ever get any of it. Too bad.:nonono:

Please, enlighten me to what sets we've missed out on other than VS and Vending.
None.
Since VS/Vending, we've gotten every set Japan got. The only things we haven't gotten are promos.

Every set japan's got, yes, naturally, but that's not what I said. We don't get every card they get. Fact. And probably never will. Also fact. I don't see any more need to discuss the topic.

Well, you brought it up.
You stated that there are loads of cards missing. So it's a fair question to ask you to give examples, no?

On event, Japan may have better events, on a one to one basis, but it's not really a fair comparison.
Japan has the population of the US in an area the size of California. Their card team can personally run a dozen events a year all on their own.

The US and other countries depends on a network of volunteers/PTOs to run hundreds of events in an area that is many times that size.

My apologies. We have different definition of "cards".
I meant "playable cards". Random promos that would never have any play value even if they were legal don't count by my definition.

Maybe Japan wants to win worlds by them selfs like they did in '04 they also make the theme decks WAY better than ours and it's a [DEL]bit[/DEL] Largely unfair

Uh...
First of all, Japan can't use any cards they have that we don't at Worlds.
Secondly, no theme decks, Japanese or English, are any good, ever. Heck, Japanese theme decks are only 30 cards.
So... not really sure what the heck you're talking about.

That's not a valid argument. Any bad card has the potential to become a good card. Take Energy Removal 2: back when it was first released (and for a longtime after) you would have been laughed at if you played it. But it has grown up into a respectable card. I heard rumors of Professor Birch being fairly playable at the current time (over Steven's Advice, I don't understand why). Several top performing players in my area have taken to playing Potion  . I'm sure Pop and others could give you a list of cards that, when they were first released, no one wanted anything to do with them but now it is normal to see them.

Incorrect. Japanese theme decks have 60 cards. Japanese Half Decks only have 30 cards.
They have differant names for a reason.

Examples of cards we have not got:

- Video starter decks
- Neo starter decks
- E-series starter decks

(these help introduce the game to new players)

- VS movie promo decks
- Poképark promos

(OK, these aren't going to come over but the point I wanted to make was that it's not just individual promos that don't come over; sometimes its a whole bunch of 18 cards each)

- countless trophy cards (OK, not countless, but I want them!)
- the Pokémon Snap promos (I'd be impressed if you knew what I'm on about here)
- zillions of promos

(heck I can dream, can't I?)

Point is, there are loads of cards, and sometimes huge swathes of cards that aren't printed into English.

That didn't stop them making Rain/Sunny/Hail Castform or the Unowns. The Castform and 90% of the Unown see less play than if they had made the "sucky promos".

well it doesnt matter when you hit the tournament level. players in japan (at least at worlds) can only play cards that have been released internationally at POP tournaments. So it benefits the high-level US players who get to worlds, as the japanese players cant use their beefed-up decks with better, newer cards.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Another mystery is why did the POP sets become so horrible all of the sudden, and is this a permanent change or will they get interesting again?

WOAH THERE TIGER

the new POP set is great, it has all the G&G cards, minus the lv. x. plus alot of other SW cards, with different art. i personally think its one of the best POP sets since POP4.
