Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Why is Junk Arm getting so much hype for gyarados?

Look at Gyarados's first attack. Then reread junk arm. If you don't understand at that point I don't know what else to say.
It isn't so much about getting a card back that is just an added bonus. It isn't just this single card that makes Gyarados better but a lot of cards that came out in triumphant.

Also a lot of people think differently about tiers and a lot of people don't even acknowledge tiers in Pokemon. So what you think is tier one others may not and vice-versa. There has never been any sort of official tier list that I have seen any Pokemon community agree on.

Any of the decent decks right now could win tournaments so I don't know why you would even rate things in tiers it is kind of pointless imo. Gyarados got better it is as simle as that.

Because you are discarding Magikarps (which Gyara sort of depends on) and as a bonus getting back an SSU, Lux Ball, Rescue, or PokeTurn.

Without Junk Arm, you have to depend on (sprayable) Regice to dump the Karps, or do it one at a time with Volkner.

Card advantage isn't such a big deal in Pokemon as it is in other TCGs which don't have the draw and search capability that Pokemon has.

Discarding 'karps is an early game action; junk arm is a middle-to-late game card.

Early junkarping can work, but it's rare to have everything in your hand AND the discard to pull it off.

T1 Impersonate Collector and grab Karps

T2 Use a Poke Turn/SSU/Lux Ball/Communication, then use Junk Arm to discard the Karps and get it back

It's not THAT rare or difficult to pull off.

Junk Arm to discard two Karps, then Volkner's to draw a bunch and discard the last. Basically, get a T1 or T2 Dos out ready for Tail Revenge.

I don't think this is as true as it may seem. Collector gets you up to 3 karps if you want them, Regice can discard, you can use junk arm to thin your hand for Uxie, etc. There are several other ways to get karps. It isn't as difficult as it sounds.

not to mention your discarding a high volume of cards(setting up for epic uxie and free attack) and you still have a supporter to use that turn ontop of the supporter you may or may not be using with sableye.

epic set up is epic

Baby M., I don't want to confuse the mechanic with the scenario.

The mechanic is the ability to execute the strategy given the scenario. The scenario you've described is ideal, and I think that this is where we differ.

If a gyarados player draws into a sableye start, with enough bench support to avoid the donk, including a crobat/poke turn, the deck's only luxury ball and a junk arm... well bless me, that's a pretty good start. Ideal to be sure, uncommon even, almost... rare.

But we could be talking at cross purposes here; without a common list to reference, we'll be stuck in a causal loop of disagreement.

A common list to reference?

4-3 Gyarados
4 Sableye SF
1 Regice LA
1 Crobat G
2 Uxie LA
1 Unown Q

4 Pokemon Collector
2 Bebe's Search
3 Pokemon Communication
3 Pokemon Rescue
4 BTS
3 Junk Arm
2 Luxury Ball (you can discard it after you used the first one.....)
3 Expert Belt
2 Twins
2 Poke-Turn
4 Seeker
2 Volkner's Philosophy
1 Judge

3 Cyclone Energy
2 Warp Energy
2 Rescue Energy

You even have two tech spaces!!!! :O

- With 4 Sableyes, you start a great deal of your games either with a Sableye, or with a way to quickly grab one and get it active. This is a given part of how Gyarados works so well. It is not up for debate - everyone knows that's how it works.
- You are NOT going to get donked with a Sableye start. It just does. not. happen. You would have to go up against an opposing Sableye start, lose the coin flip, and have the opponent holding a Crobat and a Special Dark in hand (or a Crobat and a Turn in hand), basically. You could donk without going second if you had Crobat/Sp. Dark, I suppose, but in all my experience I have never seen this nor do I hear of it very often. Sableye donks a lot of stuff... but not other Sableyes. It would have to be Machamp, and against that kind of Machamp start, what are you going to do even if you DID have the resources to avoid the donk?
- "The deck's only Luxury Ball" - how about starting with Collector, Bebe's, or Communication in-hand already, as well as Luxury Ball? That's what, 1 card out of 11 that I run? Oh yeah, and suppose I start without those, but I DO get Uxie? Or Volkner's? So then I can draw INTO those cards? Hey, maybe if I had NONE of those things, I would have the brains to get a Uxie when I Impersonate Collector.

obvious troll is bad.

Kayle, you seem agitated.

Agitated? Maybe if you define agitated as "excited" or "in a state of high energy". Since I find this topic highly entertaining.

I would prefer being a troll over being the guy who came into post about/agree with how useless a card is in a deck, disagree repeatedly with a multiple-times worlds competitor, and then suddenly reveal they hadn't actually tested the deck in question yet.

e: Though, I kind of grouped you in with the OP, who I'm 90% sure was trolling, so... yeah.
