To give you a little background about my ccg past, I stated to play D&D ccg I think in the early 1990's whe I was about 10 to 13. Then I went on to Magic in 1996 to 1999. I played just about evry ccg there were in that time frame too, from Highlander to Staw Wars. Then stoped play all together. Then a 1 year ago got back into magic. I got mad at magic because I bought a box of cards for it and now it in now longer good for the fomat and the closest place to play with that box is over 100 miles. I got into pokemon about 2 months ago with buying 2 stater decks to make 1 deck. So that is my back ground.

So can you tell my why twins and black are good. The only way to use them is when you are loseing. Why would you want to use a card when you can only when you have to be loseing. You cant even use it on the first turn if you go 2nd?

Thanks
Xbob

You don't generally plan on being behind on prizes, but if it ever happens that you ARE behind on prizes, the two cards can be huge in getting you back into the game. Or if you're playing a slower deck that takes a while to set up, a faster donk or SP deck will almost always take a prize before you can be fully set up. Twins lets you grab the cards you need to complete the set up, and Black Belt gives you a huge boost in damage output early game after your opponent KOs something, or late game when you need to take a prize to go even on prizes before time is over and the match goes to sudden death.

IMO, the max these cards should be in one deck is 2 of each; you definitely don't want to max out on them.

Twins is mainly good because it gives slower stage two decks that would normally lose to sp's a chance to fight back and stay in the game when they rush you. I mean, yeah, you might be down on a prize or two, but then you can get ANY TWO cards from your deck and potentially get the revenge ko, and if not it will still put you in good position for the next turn.

You ever heard of Scramble Energy?

You're thinking far too simply. If you've ever played chess, imagine if you could bring back a piece you had lost and put it wherever you wanted, once per game, as long as you had less pieces than your opponent. That would be RIDICULOUSLY broken.

That's approximately what Twins allows you to do. It's SO easy to get behind on prizes in Pokemon, and that often doesn't mean you're losing. I've played games where I took four prizes in the early stages of the game - and then was absolutely crushed later on. (I played one where I spent 20 minutes taking 5 prizes and then she took 5 minutes taking all six of hers!)

Twins is not a setup card. It is a recovery card. And it's a really, really good one.

I would not say that you could not use them on your first turn because your active could possibly be knocked out. Also, cards like electrode prime give your opponent a prize, then you get some energy and can use the twins or black belt for more cards or damage.

Why not have 3 or 4 Twins? We all miss Roseanne's Research, which let you pull out 2 of any basic pokemon or basic energy. Well Twins lets you pull out 2 of any card! And if you plan to be behind on prizes still for a few turns, you can use it as a Twins engine to pull out any card plus the next Twins.

It's simple to let your opponent take an easy first prize, possibly overextending themself in this fast meta format. And it's usually a starter you're willing to let them KO anyway. With Twins in your hand, your strategy is to pounce back with fast setup or a clever card combination.

Personally, I've teched Jirachi RR into my deck, so I can use Twins twice in a single turn, and perhaps even Final Wish to get yet another card.

let's not forget that if/once we get lost world then you will not need to draw any prizes to win the game. so a twins engine in lostgar is perfect.

As it would be in a Time Control rogue, which I know people have played around with.

Personally, I don't see a whole lot of appeal in Black Belt, but every deck ought to run one copy of Twins. Even though you don't want to be losing, fact is, you are going to be losing once in awhile. Twins provides a way to recover from being down on prizes, which, again, like it or not, is going to happen.

And yeah, a good example is Scramble Energy.

Twins and Black Belt can work really well in tank decks. Tank decks generally sacrifice a couple of Pokemon to set up, so Twins would really help.

I think some LuxChomps will run one Twins- getting any two cards in a mirror match is really good. Chances are, if two equally skilled players are playing in a mirror match, one player is going to get behind half of the time.

(xbob, if you don't know exactly what a tank deck is, it's a deck that focuses on setting up a single powerful Pokemon that can take multiple prizes without getting knocked out. Put an Expert Belt (Platinum: Arceus) on Tyranitar Prime (HGSS: Unleashed) and you have an example.)

Although no one likes to be behind on prizes, some strategies are slower than others. What Twins does is even the playing field for slow decks. It's not as if every deck is going to run them, and obviously you never want to be behind on prizes, but the cards definitely have their place.

As long as SP decks are around,I plan to use Twins AND Black Belt.

Black Belt is good for the suprise KO after your oppenent just took a prize on you.It may also help take away their only set up attacker as well.

Spread decks will heavily rely on Twins because they take all their prizes at once so they have optimal results from Black Belt and Twins.

Well, put Twins like this; at worst if you're completely dominating and don't ever fall down on prizes, it's a dead draw. At best, it can be useful at any stage of the game if you're behind on prizes and instantly gets you 2 cards you need to make a comeback. The benefits greatly outweigh the cost, as it's extremely unlikely you'll ever dominate every deck you play to the point you could never use Twins at all.

Black Belt is a bit more situational (especially if you're slapping Expert Belt onto things), but take SP decks for an example; they often forgo Expert Belt for Energy Gain obviously, so an extra 40 damage from an outside source makes it pretty good to them. 40 damage in general can often guarantee a KO while something lesser like Expert Belt or Plus Power cannot.
