Why Nintendo should give out lots of digital boosters when they begin selling

IMO, it depends if P!P wants a system that reflects the tradability of paper cards. If they want cards to hold value online and have people want to trade, they need a system like MTGO. If they don't want to have that trade system in place, (less to manage, program wise), I like the unlimited amount of cards for a monthly fee is the way to go.

The two models to emulate is MTGO VS, WOW.

The WOW model would mean people would buy a CD that has all the cards from one set on it and pay a monthly fee to play online. This option the monetary value of each CD set and the monthly cost is going to be hard to find to get all people to play. Maybe have levels of monthly play. Free= league only to earn league items. Pay= includes X amount of monthly tournaments you can play in to win ?online ranking/cards/points/pokemon memorabilia? and include league.

The MTGO model would mean it is free to play online but each pack (random cards) cost the same prices as a paper pack but invoke a player online trade and cost value of each (built in ebay). But with this option they need to have a standard online currency within the game (another management tool to add to the program). This option the monetary value of what P!P should charge is easy, what ever the going rate of a paper pack is.

I think, logically, a free-to-play with priced packs is the best route.

1) A lot of people are automatically opposed to pay-to-play, at any price. I've noticed this on many MMO sites.

2) Some people wouldn't be able to afford buying real cards AND paying for a subscription.

3) With free-to-play, people are welcome to stick with their small collection, just to play for fun, and perhaps rare prizes. This actually leads to more sales of packs since people can save their money until they find a product they really want to buy instead of being against buying anything due to also paying a subscription fee.

I don't think entire sets should be sold together. That does ruin the collectability of it.

I'm not going to buy virtual Pokémon cards when I can buy real Pokémon cards.

...

Unless there's some form of prize support other than digital cards. Yes, simply playing Pokémon is fun. But I actually like to get something else for my money. I think Drew's reference to how Magic works is neat. I think that if Pokémon wants people to actually buy digital cards, there needs to be something physical in it for the players.

Based on the tidbits of the Token system we've seen in the beta, I would assume that the game would be more of a micro-transaction base, allowing you to buy these Tokens in various quantities with which to buy additional boosters/etc with.

I'd support this system more than any other. Personally, I'd rather grind for my points and earn packs via gameplay then having to split my finances between real and virtual cards.

If they don't put a virtual code card in every booster pack (like NeoPets) they're missing a big opportunity to boost sales of physical packs.
