man this really sucks, only one person form memphis made in top32 in all the age groups
Hey from the looks of it there's only 2 people from Colorado that made it into the finals, 1 from the 15+ (Steve P) and 1 from the 10 and under (Pablo Kingsley). Go team Colorado!

I am also surprised to see a lower number of players from Japan in the finals... I actually expected about 60-70% of the players in the finals to be from Japan. This is a nice surprise, but only time will surely tell "who's country reigns supreme" (bad Iron Chef line, but still). Good luck to all, and GO USA!!

20/32 Americans. who's yo daddy?

That isnt like a great surprise, seen as how many Americans won invites and trips as opposed to the Japanese and Europeans. I'd say this would be a quite average score.

Yeah!!!
I wanna know how Daniel Cohen did....

That's really not quite fair...there were 4 trips possible for Germans to win a trip to worlds, but just 2 for each age group...which is ridicoulous if you see, how many Americans get to fly...and invites don't help at all either...who is going to pay for a flight to San Diego and the Hotel...which is probably over a $1000...

But at least we got some europeans in those Tops!
Hahahaaha

Yes..........Freddy plus Sami & Yascine both made it through for Team UK :thumb:  Come on the Londonders........Bring it back to the UK!!

For the last day of Worlds, will we have an update with more details in pokemon-tcg? Will be a "live update"? Will be the possibility to know when a person win one of the match of the finals?

I know everyone has been dying to know what decks are being played. Well I posted in RR's thread but I'll go into some more detail here...

ZRE was the "surprise" deck that the Japanese brought this year. Not all of them are playing it but some of them are and for whatever reason, they decided to practice against some Americans during Grinders. This let the cat out of the bag and some Americans changed their decks accordingly, some even built new decks that night. So for me, the biggest news of the day (Firday afternoon, actually) was that ZRE was alive and well and would be a force. As for the specifics of the decks, there were quite a few variations. Magcargo/Delcatty/Electrode/Rayquaza was one deck, though it might have had Zapdos and Moltres, I didn't see them played. I won't go into the details but an American in 11-14 built a ZRE that counters the Japanese ZRE and started off 4-0 but apparently lost a match somewhere along the way but is still in the T32.

LudiCargo is the most popular deck (as expected the metagame is rediculously diverse) and I believe that is what Yamato is playing but gosh darn its hard to see cards on a table from 100 feet away. Martin is playing LudiCargo as usual.

Apparently there was some hubbub when a Japanese player Pow!ed a Scramble to a benched Mareep. The Rock Lock player said no, the Japanese player called for a translator/judge and they ruled that the Scramble was moved and discarded. Rock Lock player called for a higher judge and the Scramble stayed on whoever it came from (I believe an active TTar). For whatever reason, by Japanese rules, the Scramble could be moved and consequently discarded but of course that is not the case under Pokemon USA rules.

Some Japanese players are using Salamence  and the youngers players especially are doing well with it. Speaking of Slamence, why did I pull 1 energy in 7 turns in a side event? I think Ryan Vergel put a hex on my deck cause we played for fun after and I started with 4 energy, a T1 Pidgeot and drew into a Boost for T3KO.

I'd hate to start rumors here so try to read this in detail: A Blastoise ex player was sitting at Tables 1 and 2 it seemed all day in 11-14. I don't know if he is the same player who has been accused of cheating or not but I can testify that he does get Blastoise out T1 or T2 every game without fail. Before Round 4 a random deck check was performed at Table 2. The Blastoise player was at Table 1. Again, I'm not saying that he is cheating, I only mention it because I know I've read some complaints about a Blastoise player and it would have been nice to have a deck check for all to see so we could clear the air once and for all. I just found it ironic that the deck check would be so close and yet so far from helping with the Court of Public Opinion. FYI: I'm not saying that the Professors/Judges intentionally didn't check his deck, I'm just telling my story. Regardless of all this, he is playing extremely well so he definitely deserves credit for that.

Medicham was not as popular as I thought it would be. It was kinda like Battle Frontier in that after its release, Pidgeot and Dark decks dissapeared. You knew Psychic would be prevalent so Medicham dissapeared. Of course the irony of all this is that for a while nobody played BF and I didn't see any Psychic except Grumpig in LudiCargo.

A great Muk player could have had a field day if they came prepared. Every deck is based on Powers and Bodies (as expected) but people came prepared for Medicham with decks like ZRE and so forth. From what I saw, a lot of Rock Lock players were in top form and did very well against T2, considering the matchup.

That's all I can think of for now. I would like to see a trading room in the future and I wish the translation books were easier to find. We definitely need more space for Side Events and good heavens the Grinders completely caught PUI off guard. 253 players and the absolute, no ifs ands or buts even if Ash himself was leftout, cutoff was 256 players for mathematical reasons. PUI was ready for about 140 15+ Grinders, they had to rearrange the whole room to make it work but kudos to them for adapting on the fly and getting everything done. I was dissapointed in the Booster Drafts, they were Emerald or Deoxys and it was based on a group vote for some reason. Tomorrow they are supposed to have UF Drafts, although the guy behind the desk told me they were drafting "Hidden" on Sunday so it could actually be Hidden Legends, which would be a catastrope. I'm sure its UF though. I almost forgot, there was a guy handing out packs (1 per person, relax) to everyone at the event. He went around a couple times and all the packs were foreign. I got an Italian Rare Candy (will trade  ) so I'm satisfied.

I love the trading that goes on there with the Japanese players. Everybody comes away happy and we both feel like we get the better end of the deal, its great. I traded Beldum for Matrix energy so I'm sound as a pound. My Japanese Salamence ex count is 2 right now so Northern California be ready to my out of deck Sally.

All in all its a great event, that I sadly had to leave before conclusion, and will definitely be returning to next year. Hopefully I won't have to Grind in because hearing all these younger kids get in only to be crushed because you're not 5-0 is devastating. I know the kids should be helped along and I don't have a problem with it, just that things didn't shake out for me, that's all. Even if you're not playing in the Main Event you still have an endless supply of Pokemon activities to choose from, its rediculous. You might as well try to crash as many Side Events as possible. Good times, definitely and since I'm home now I'll give a pre-emptive grade of B+ to everyone at Nintendo and Pokemon for their efforts. That's a good B+ so don't think I'm upset about anything at all.

For us common people (those who didn't goto Worlds), what's ZRE?
I forgot the most important part, sorry. I'm not the elite player I wish I were so if this isn't perfect, everyone should feel free to correct me.

ZRE stands for Zapdos ex, Rayquaza ex & Electrode ex. The deck was popular in Japan during 2004 (keep in mind the fact that they are ahead of us, set rotation-wise) but fell in popularity when new sets and combinations came out. It never caught on as an archetype the US but it was definitely known about. The deck contains some variations, most noteably Rayquaza*, Moltres ex, Delcatty and apparently in Japan, Magcargo. I didn't personally see Magcargo being played in this deck at Worlds, only for fun in the hallway so it very well could have been a ploy to make sure US players played Medicham or an honest experiment. My experiences with Japanese players were all exceptional. They're extremely respectable people and really just enjoy Pokemon to the fullest extent so I doubt they would try to influence what we play. Anyhow...

The deck utilizes Magmar for Dump and Draw, Voltorb for Recharge and Legendary Ascent on both Moltres and Zapdos. Electrode ex is usually the early attacker and prior to being KO, you use his Power, Extra Energy Bomb, and put whatever energy you need onto the field as you see fit.

If Delcatty is in the deck (some decks play Battle Frontier so they obviously do not have Catty) it adds to Electrode's lethality while speeding up the deck even more; you do risk Stadium and setup consistancy though. Lanette's Net Search can be played and when you consider that you can go on and grab yourself a Rayquaza* with Lanette, you begin to realize the true power of the deck.

T2 Medicham is obliterated by this deck because Rayquaza*'s Holy Star is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to it.

It generally eats LudiCargo alive with overwhelming damage, Lightning Pokes, Water & Fighting resistance, Crushing Flames (auto Confuse = no Swing Dance for active Ludicolo), Legendary Ascent and Super Scoop Up. Basically if you don't OHKO something, it will come back to haunt you without question.

Muk can beat it due to the fact that almost every Pokemon utilizes a Power but again 1 Holy Star will spell the end for a Muk player. I would like to see a Muk v. ZRE match play out with some elite players participating.

Rock Lock pretty much folds to ZRE because the deck is based on basic Pokemon and they are always getting Scooped, killing themself (Trode) or being replaced via Moltres & Zapdos and 10 damage between turns just isn't enough to really kill anything with 110HP, especially when you are repeatedly getting KOd.

Its 5:30AM so all strategic discussions will have to cease for me (hopefully I can force myself to sleep) for the night. I do love to talk strategy though, deck building is by far one of the greatest things to happen to man. Right up there with cooked beef and nuclear fusion.

There are a whopping 8 players from the state of IL in the Top 32's. Ashley, Jason, Adam, Jeffery, James V, Kevin, Paris, and James B. WI has a whole.... oh.... I don't even need a hand to count it... none... since Pooka didn't make the cut this time around.

I think this calls for a Pooka shout....

P-P-P-PoooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOka!

What happened to last year's 2nd place finishers???? *pulls out World Champ decks* - Fullop, Weichler and Nguyen???
Unfortunately Reed (Weichler) had some bad breaks and I don't think he made T32. He moved up to 11-14 and that's obviously a tough transition but he won Nationals in Canada so you can't complain about a season like that.

EDIT: Now its 6:00AM, I REALLY need to go to bed.
