Jaeger: I agree that bigger tournaments are typically harder to win. I was picking up on charcharchar declaring that top cutting was harder at the bigger tournaments. Top cutting a 62 player tournament or a 30 player tournament is harder than a 126 player tournament. (assuming that swiss-1 isn't used or the cut size reduced)

That's not really the point I was making, although I can totally see how it looks that way...
The point I was trying to make was really the fact that we have to play all day friday and part of saturday before he field narrows any... THAT is why I think the US nats is in a different class...
We're going to spend sooooo much time playing these various decks, both rogue and archetype, and it makes your head spin.

I was rambling.

Actually it just depends on the player number. A 120 player (in masters) tournament like German Nationals is really hard, since only half of the 5-2 players make the top cut and there's nothing you can do about your OppWin. A 129 player tournament would be rather easy to top cut, since there's an additional round and top 32, which means even 5-3 has a good chance to make the cut.

That's why I liked the old top cut numbers a lot more - they were better balanced and didn't create situations where a 4-1 player can miss the top cut at a CC.

I understand what your saying but with a much larger top cut just simply based on size means alot more play off rounds where one bad hand or one bad match up could be disasterious. I think your going to have a hard time finding many US players who think winning a 80 person tournament is harder than winning a 800 person tournament. (not saying either is easy, winning a Nats reguardless of size is an accomplishment to be proud of)

There so many different factors to consider, tournaments like US nats have so many rounds and so many chances for "bad luck" to catch up with you. But at a tournament like Worlds its a much smaller tournament but at the same point in time its the top players of over 20 countries, which means no easy wins.

I hate to sound like a jerk, but there are going to be easy wins in this donk heavy format.

Also to Baby Mario's suggestion, interesting and it would be more exciting if they held worlds outside of U.S. some years, but I'm not sure nintendo will spring for that.

I didn't say its easier to win, but a lot easier to top cut. And its not like "the more players, the easier to top cut", but as I said, there are number ranges. Keep in mind that with 65 players you have the same swiss rounds and top cut as with 127 (almost double) players.

Of course, you can also lose in the top cut - but personally I think beeing out by actually losing a game is better than beeing out by tiebreakers where you couldn't do anything about.

What I like at Worlds is that 128 players for top 32 and 7 swiss rounds is an almost perfect cut. Normally, all 5-2 will get in and only 1 or 2 4-3.
