So who wants to make some predictions about the cut off this year and what we should be aiming for in each division?

Looks like they just copy/pasted last year's format though, since 2010 World Champions and 2011 National Championships are still there. Looks like there will be an LCQ this year too.

NA Masters cutoff will probably about 50 CP ish IMO. Good to see that we're getting a good number of invites. IMO, T40 in NA works well.

CHAMPIONSHIP POINT INVITATIONS

Championship Point invitations are awarded without pass downs. This means that players who earn an invitation via a National Championships or who are not opted in to Ratings and Rankings will take one of the invitation slots awarded regardless of their eligibility to collect the invitation.Ties within the Championship Points rankings will be broken with ELO Ratings.

Official Rules for Redeeming Travel Awards to the World Championships

This prize includes a Travel Award for the winner and a travel companion (if winner is under age 18) to the Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships destination specified in the prize or event listing at Pokemon.com. Travel award winners will be booked to arrive the day prior to the event check-in date, and will depart the day after the event has ended. Players who are deemed to have excessive estimated travel times may be granted an additional night in advance of the event, at the sole discretion of The Pokémon Company International, Inc

Is this saying that top40 gets a paid trip as well?

Invitations without POP-sponsored Travel Awards will be given to:
-All other qualifying players from the 2012 National Championships in each age division, as defined in the table above
-Players qualifying through the 2012 Championship Points

Props to TPCi for more trips in Europe. :thumb:
Rest is pretty much straight-forward like last years.

wish i still have my invite, but i had to leave the game because of idiots.
Wanna elaborate? (in a PM to not derail the thread)

To stay on topic, can't afford the trip to Hawaii, so I'm aiming to win nationals :p

Looks like I made the right decision in choosing not to play this season. I'm not rich. I can't afford flight and accommodation to Hawaii. Since the invites for the top 40 of North America don't get a travel award, there's no point in me playing. Not gonna risk a Nationals crapshoot.
Hopefully next year they'll either have Worlds in a real state or give travel awards with invites.

^
yeah b/c there's no paid trips for t40 i don't even see a point in playing....parents just told me they wouldn't pay....cya in 7 months to try for san diego..yeah i'm sad panda :(

I think 50 is a high estimation. I think that low 40s is more realistic to be honest. I just think around 42-43 with the tiebreaker will be the number.

I can't afford a trip to Worlds, so I'd have to aim for an invite... That's if I were to have even qualified for Worlds in the first place after the slow comeback I made to my return to the TCG.

Let me see if I'm understanding your logic: you're not playing all year because if you're good enough to be one of the Elite 40, you can't afford to go with the rest of them to Hawaii?

Likewise...."I can't afford a trip to Hawaii, so I'm going to skip all the Premier tournaments along the way."

I understand not taking extensive road trips to garner CP points anymore, but this is just sour grapes. Said another way, since when did Worlds become the one and only goal? What happened to the journey along the way?

I really hope you just keep playing in the local events which are convenient.

^ Maybe people want to prevent the frustration that they know they wont make it, no matter how much they win? I know that thats the case for me, yes pokemon is fun all year but I dont really like the current metagame and worlds definitly IS the highlight of the year and probably the reason I play. So Im taking a break as well..

I still play some local tournaments but I dont test / drive anywhere really..

They could probably fix all of this by offering diversity in the places where Worlds is held. Someone at TPCi probably noticed the huge attendance boost being on the main land (e.g. San Diego) brings the event. Just having it on the main land cuts costs so much and makes it viable for more people to go if they/do or don't qualify.

Not sour grapes for me, I can pay for a ticket and go if I made it. I wouldn't justify the cash for a grinder attempt. Unlike Sand Diego, where I'd drive down for a grinder attempt and win or lose, stay for the rest of the event.
