The deciding factor is probably in the amount of people that play in the Unitd States. If you look at the number of people on the POP ratings and rankings that play in the US, it makes up over 50% of the total registered players globally.

Why have Worlds in Antarctica if it is inconvenient for 99% of people? It may not be convenient (Worlds in the States) for the rest of the world, but the location does accomodate the needs of the many.
Hmmm, I agree with this is some sense... However, I would think JPN has most likely around the same number of players in there Rankings...
JMO...

Its 'inconvieniant' for the Olympics to be held in China, but a WORLD wide competition makes an attempt to represent the WORLD. the majority of the time, the worlds should be held in the US, but every now and again lets hold it where ther are other player bases, like Europe, or South east Asia, but for certain Japan. Its called Worlds for a reason you know.

The olympics is sort of an expression of a worldwide brotherhood, though, so it's natural for it to change where it is. Location is unimportant.

The pokemon world championships, on the other hand, is cheifly a part of buisiness venture. This makes location key in the running of the event. You want the maximum amount of people to come, so you put the world championships in the greatest location for the greatest number of people.

As it turns out, this is in California. While it is true that putting worlds here does hurt the ability of those living far away to come, putting it somewhere else will essentially stop a greater amount of people from going to worlds, causing the buisiness to lose money.

I would be very interested to see the amount of people japan has in ratings and rankings. The strange thing is that Japan doesn't seem to be on the list (Maybe a different one that I don't know about?)

I believe I've heard that Japan runs their own OP, and POP runs it everywhere else...

I don't see the argument that words should be in the USA because that is the only location that will ensure a large attendance.

What would happen if Worlds was located in Europe? Each European Nationals would contribute 12 players to worlds as against the current situation with only those that get free trips or can afford to travel to the USA able to make it.

SO how many European Nationals are there? UK, NL, France, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Czech, Denmark and probably more. Each providing an extra 8 players.. so thats 100+ europeans just waiting in the wings to make up the shortfall from the USA.

I can't even begin to guess how big worlds would be if it was held in Japan.

But it matters not. POP will already have figured all this and more out for themselves. The only thing I'm certain of is that Worlds is in the USA this year. POP will already have figured out where they want worlds to be in 2007 you have to plan ahead for such events.

Another big factor is where do the Pokemon Company bigwigs want to go for their summer vacation.

That makes me think Hawaii, New Zealand, or Austrailia. Personally I am not that excited about Japan. Europe might be enjoyable.

Possible reasons Worlds will NOT be held overseas:

money
local playerbase
worlds attendance (could you even IMMAGINE what would happen to the 10-?)
legal concerns
where POP wants to go on vacation.

There. No complicated explanations that take paragraphs. Just a list of things that prevent Worlds from happening in any country other than the US.

Why California two years in a row though? Florida has one year, then it's California, and it should have been texas or another large place near the center of the country.

Because based off the previous 2 Worlds events, they want them to be held at a "tropical" or resort like location. Locations such as Florida and California fall into this category with their resorts. Based off this pattern, I would assume that they are trying to keep future World events at such "resort-like" locations....

I guess we'll have to wait and see when Worlds 2007 will be when PUI announces it (most likely announced this coming Worlds).

To me, it wouldn't make any sense to have Worlds in a different country because the number of invites in the USA are significantly more than those anywhere else. Perhaps it's the possibility that the USA has a larger player base, but I'm not totally sure on that. To get to the point, it wouldn't make sense to run Worlds outside the USA because the cost of flying people overseas from the USA to anywhere else would be way too costly since the USA seems to have more invites. To me, it makes sense to give a paid trip invite from a country outside the USA and have them fly to the USA since there aren't as many invites given outside the USA based off last year's invites.

That would make sense, but it doesn't happen.

You can't really compare the two though. People that compete in the Olympics have sponsors, they do it for their lives, it's a big thing, like a job. It's not the same as a "Kiddy TCG" which is how the world sees it.

Let's hold it on the moon, that way 100% of the people can be equally inconvinienced and no one can complain.

it should have been texas

*adds you to best friends list*

What's not tropical about Houston? To dispel the rumors, I don't live on a ranch and I've never even seen a horse. In Houston we have water, heat and bugs. My neighbor has a palm-like tree in their yard, and the grocery store has coconuts. So there.

The location of Champion's League (equivalent to Japanese National) this year is TAIWAN
Althrough there are no Taiwanese practising in the battle

PUSA may do the same one day, say 10 years later lol

yeah...i think the 10- attendence would suck for the most part if it was anywhere besides us. What parent would take off work to pay and fly to a pokemon tourney across the ocean for there 9 year old?
11-14 18+ mabey but i cant see it happening for 10-. and to pay for it... right now the travel voucher is what 300? which just covers a ticket there from the east coast. how much is a hotel in another country for 2-3 days? cause more than likely it will have to come outta pocket.

Hiya,

Then, again...Not fair. A friend of mine, 2 years in the row Nats 10- Champion, and he have to go to US with his auntie. I don't really see the problem for 10- going. And also, most of the parents support Pokemon and want to be there.

cya.

I don't mind them holding it in the U.S every year. I think it's pretty understandable why they do.
Last year was my first year at World's (not playing, my son won a trip). I think the quality of the tournament is more importatant than the location (although if money was no object, and there wasn't any legal issues, or security issues for some countries, it would be cool if they ran it in different locations around the world).

I really thought they ran a first class tournment last year and the location was very nice in terms of hotel rooms, pools, food, etc.
Great Job POP !!
Keep up the good work !
