worlds rant

ugh. where should i start?

this year swag is a little worse than last year :/ IMO.

1) Please bring back aqua shirts! c'mon. if the judges are wearing white coats, it is BEST for competitiors to be in aqua. my fave was worlds 2007 and 2008, they're looking amazing.

2) bags. A mere show bag kind or whatever? Bleh. Worlds 2009 was the best one in this area, and I would LOVE P!P to use that kind of bag again for Worlds 2012, as the one I use right now is getting worn out and need a replacement.... :/

and that's about all really.

p.s. Im thankful for playmats, folder, 9card set and shirt..as it always still be the core tradition. Just the matter of fact the shirt color is white disgusts me

oh another thing is...regarding to the worlds store... please bring back the system used in worlds 2008...AND RISE THE PRICES UP. I don't like being queueing forever to get items, the best I would do is wait 15 mins and that's it. I have found memories of going into 2008 worlds store, come out with a great number of loot, with only 15 mins of waiting but this time...dont want to queue up that long AND last year, u have to be tagged or something before being serviced.

also one more thing, bring back ORLANDO ! it was the best venue ever all around, even i have to fork out $2000 to get there (which is more than the europeans would fork out to get to Orlando, even Japanese)..........

I'm disgusted more at the fact that they seem to have so little at the worlds vendor every year. I've heard stories of friends waiting 4-5 hours in line from 5 AM just to be able to purchase only one of every item and then hear that same day that they've run out of mats or shirts for the rest of that day.
I say that they need to have much more of the items available at the store for purchase that they won't run out and so the items don't inflate to what they've become (e.g. my friend is selling 4 items from the store for 250 dollars when he bought them all for 50).

Do you want them to just open the store up to the ebay merchants who will buy it out regardless of how much stuff they have?

P!P has to walk a line when they order this stuff...they want enough so that the people who attend can manage to get souvenirs, but they also do not want to order too much stuff because they don't want the extra.

You are lucky they even make things like the mats available for purchase...if it was me, I would make them strictly for the players in the tournament to give them exclusivity

They are working hard to satisfy everyone...but never will.

and they do not tell people to sit in line over night to get in the store...thats a choice. I managed to walk in the store sunday fairly early...with no wait ...and still manage to pick up some stuff

As an outsider, I'd just like to say this(And I acknowledge ahead of time that it's probably not helpful, but it needs to be said): Oh man, I wish this free stuff I got were better! This FREE STUFF that I got just isn't as good as FREE STUFF used to be.

Gift Horse, mouth, all that stuff.

Though I have to agree with you about more numbers and Orlando. I've heard that we will never get Orlando again due to some issues that happened at Worlds that year.

Why does saying "this and that could be better" always mean we dont appreciate what we get?

I love the worlds bags and appeciate them but I still agree with his points, I love my worlds 2009 bag, I even take it to university sometimes lol. I also agree about orlando, hawai is stupid and even if you win the trip its expensive >_<

Because I didn't get those things and never have, and wouldn't complain about their quality if I did. There are more people on this forum that DON'T get FREE STUFF given to them, than do. Don't look your gift horse in the mouth and complain about the FREE stuff.

It's not free. It costs $1000+ unless you T4 Nats.

I'm not complaining about what we got, its all great. I'm just wondering why some things were removed such as the foreign packs. Also why weren't there posters?? Those would've been so cool

Two things that could have been done better imo:

1) The bags - The one we got in 2009 was absolutely fantastic and most people would argue that it is better than a lot of the stuff we get in the worlds swag (am I the only one sick of pencils and stickers?).

2) Card vendors - Why wasn't there one? It would have been fantastic. We weren't allowed to buy or sell in the gaming room so why not have a vendor?

Worlds was great, but there can always be improvements.

Well it's not like you just have to show up there and get the stuff, you also need an invite which gets more and more difficult to archive.

Yea I missed the foreign packs as well. They were really nice to open. =/

@ Orlando
Well, it doesn't have to be Orlando, San Diego is a lot better of a location imo. But why Hawaii again, if the player numbers were so low last year compared to other Worlds? I guess about 90% of the players would be more than happy if Worlds were on a cheaper and easier to reach location, and the saved money would be invested in things like a competitor bag, more merchandise etc.

@ Store
I actually don't like what happened to the store, but that's rather the players' rising mentality of "making profit" than any changes P!P did. Personally I think they should keep things like playmats to the players only (honestly, do you really want to play on a Worlds mat if you haven't played at the event by yourself?) and just sell the less desired merchandise, like they did in 2008 where you got to the shop in 15 min as the OP said. Two years ago, the most important item competitors got (besides the promos) was the bag which couldn't be bought in the shop - now it's the playmat which can, and I think that's one of the reasons the line was so long.

1) Gonna sound a bit metro here, but aqua is soooo not flattering. Gimme black or white any day of the week.

2) Worlds swag is definitely declining in aesthetic pleasure. For those who don't know, this is what Worlds Competitors had prior to the plastic bags of 2010/2011:

'04: cool-looking ultra pro binder
'05: a backpack...A BACKPACK!
'06: Backpack? Maybe - I don't recall.
'07: an awesome Pikachu drawstring that's sturdy, durable, and great for holding a variety of objects.
'08: an awesome tote bag.
'09: another equally cool bag.

...And from then on, they downgraded it to...Plastic.

It's excellent that the scholarships have maintained throughout the years, but it's a crying shame that the competitor packages have tanked. They don't even give out boosters anymore (perhaps due to the language "zone" regulations for legality).

It was a backpack in 2005, yes Kettler you got it right.

And um. I'd rather cut schlorships in favour of return of better bags.

It's a trade off.
What they didn't have in those prior years were the playmat and the plushie.

So.... bag or playmat and plushie.

That seems to be the choice, go!

2006 they had a backpack, and it was full of packs of cards with different languages. Scholarships have declined in Regionals by the way. Back in the day, getting top 4 meant you won a scholarship. Only 1st and 2nd get them now. :/

Don't care about the t-shirt colour. It's just a matter of personal taste.

The Shaymin bag (2009?) was awesome, but now we get playmats so . . . I guess that's ok.

I do miss the packs though. I'm sad there weren't any this year. Even if you couldn't play them, getting cards in every language was a nice touch.

The shop thing was annoying . . . people were lining up at ridiculous times just to get stuff. I understand that they don't want to just become a way for people to make money on eBay (buy a mat for $12, sell it for $60), but it's sad that it's so hard just to pick up a couple of extras for friends back home.

How many people actually sell the stuff they buy from Worlds on eBay? I don't think having stock for everybody (as in 1 for each) would really be a problem. I'd stock for 2 of each for everybody, so that you can buy some for a friend at home(many won't agree with this one). And besides, more products = lower price on eBay -> not as much profit per item.

The shop/store should have a bigger stock,My friend was in line this year and they closed the whole store before he gets to buy something.
There will never be a good kind of location for worlds; Do it in Hawaii and europeans/some americans are screwed. Do it in Orlando and Japanese are kinda screwed. Do it in Europe, Japan and America are kinda screwed.
Lower the prices of the hotel and the place will get a little bit more decent.

i would rather want the bag and playmat. not the plushie.

That wasn't the choice.

And, not everything is for everyone.
There are many people who adore the plushies.

I could live without them myself, but I see others eyes light up when they see them, so I appreciate that they are a good item for them to have.
