So is anyone going to share any of this knowledge on how to create exportable Pre-Reg files?

We read how to do it in the TMS Guide ;) The process was simple, but definately not for the Meek at Heart. It also can only be used for an event like Worlds were the list of invitees already existed in spreadsheet format. The standard preregistration process is the best way to go for other events.

I had forgotten that I had put that in there. So it looked like Excel was exported into a text file using delimiters. Also, did it save age groups/birthdates? I haven't put any research into 1.16 for Pre-Reg as it wasn't that useful to me in previous versions.

That is one way to do it but you have to be careful.

Why would you want age info in the pre-reg file? That info is already stored in the database, where it should be.

As I said before, I don't want to post details here because it would scare most people. I would suggest that you read the TMS Guide on the TC site (http://compendium.pokegym.net/compendium.shtml). It gives a great step-by-step process that even a novice can use. You may also want to get your hands on the TMS 1.16 tips sheet that PUI just E-mailed out. We used them at Worlds and they worked great.

If you still have questions after that PM me and I be glad to help you with your problem.

My wife and I are the ones who wrote the TMS Guide. We dedicated a good month to getting that document together. We offered the Guide to TC to host as it's an excellent resource.

Age/birthdate is required by the application to register the player. If I'm traveling in for a Tournament with a bulk of players, I'd want to cut the workload on the TMS Operator. The database isn't all-inclusive. Someone in say New York doesn't know what my or any of my player's birthdates are, and since there's no centralized database of players (HINT HINT AGAIN PUI - we even offered to do it for you), it's best if the Pre-Reg file can store and import that data into the database on someone else's computer. That's the whole point of pre-registration, to get ALL of the data into the application.

We've also figured out how to merge databases (in Access 97 ONLY).

I also found it funny that PUI sent out excerpts from the Guide without referring anyone to it directly.

DGL,

I already complemented you on the guide. You've just made it very clear in some of your previous posts that you don't know how the S/W actually works.

What you are asking for is new functionality for TMS. The pre-reg file works for it's intended purpose. I would recommend that you send your hints/suggestions directly to PUI ( [email protected] ) so that they can evaluate the for incorporation into TMS 2.X.

As a software guy I think it is reasonable to conclude that the authors of the software don't know how it works either.

BTW what version software was used at worlds?

We used 1.16, just like at Nationals and the Stadium Challenges.

Steve knows very well how TMS works just because he had a brain fart about an area that we do not us dose not prove his inability. The only thing I have heard of you fixing with TMS at an event is a very simple repairing/pairing problem that was only a problem because the players sat in the wrong spot. Yet you claim to own TMS that is a little presumptuous. When you are nose deep in the crap of TMS and have angry players like we have had then make your claims of ownage. Why don't you write a new guide since you claim to be the "pwner” of TMS. Put your self acclaimed title to use.

The TMS 1.16 tips email that just went out is in a nutshell our TMS guide that was wrote last year.

It's not new functionality. The Birthdate is REQUIRED. I was asking if the current version of the software adds that into the mix for the Pre-Registration File. I DON'T use pre-registration. We have no need to use it for 8-30 player tournaments where we don't know how many people or who exactly is/are going to show up.

We've also made several dozen requests for new functionality and requested how certain things worked inside the software in it's current incarnation. We've seen a couple of the requests for new functionality implemented. We haven't heard anything back on others.

DGL/Mom,

You do realize that this could have been avoided if you had just PMed me like I asked. I really not sure why you have to fight everything out on the boards.

I apologise for any problems caused. I just wish that you two could do the same.

This may be my last post to the Gym. I've already asked PUI to ban me. Maybe da Gym will do the same.
