Would the Pokémon Anime Survive Without Ash?

Face it, we grew up watching Ash Ketchum develop into being a pretty good Pokemon Trainer for 13 Seasons in a row and Pikachu is pretty much the mascot of the Pokemon franchise as much as Mario is the mascot of Nintendo itself overall.

With rumors going around that Ash might be leaving the show after Diamond & Pearl, do you guys think that the Anime will survive without Ash? If they did they'd most likely have the new main character have a Pikachu since it's symbolic of the franchise itself.

Discuss.

I would love to see a pokemon show with a new main character but just as a side show. Ash still has to be in the main pokemon show. They might have been able to let him out earlier, but after 13 seasons they are stuck with him.

Short answer, if they do it the right way, it can; there's already been several special seasons where you have like Richie as the main guy, or those Ranger ones. However, it would undoubtedly be a rougher transition than say, YGO, where you can "insert generic spiky hair hero" into the picture.

Besides, why would they give up on Ash? Black/White is just around the corner, that's a whole new land to explore. Just age the dude finally (since the main Trainers in Black/White apparently are at least teenage in years) and you've fixed a problem fairly easily. And for Arceus' sake, drop Team Rocket from appearing in every bloody episode, that's what's really killing the series imo; if you limit their appearance more sparingly, then you can at least develop a better story rather than having their inevitable appearance/fail attempt be an almost consistent part of the story.

You cant really take the series serious anyway, can you? Go read the manga (pokemon special), has a way better story. The anime is advertisment without story and shouldnt be really be seen as a real anime anyway IMO.

I really hope they can remove the current series and animate the Pokemon Adventure Manga,it has some serious stories in there :)

Only if they start with the RS series. The first 3 series were kinda random, though Yellow was interesting at least. But even those 3 series were better than the Ash anime...

The beginning was kinda random but I absolutly loved the GS arc and especially the ending. And Yellow Arc was cool too.
RS was nice in the end, really nice, but in the beginning was a bit boring. And the whole contest thing / hardly catching any pokemon was a bit odd. Still kind of sad that Ruby forgot everything :(

Currently reading DP and I really like it so far, the galactic guys are even somewhat creepy/scary.

Eh, I liked the beginning, but maybe that's just me loving Pokemon in general.

Personally, I would love to see the Manga animated as long as it came to the USA. The only problem is that it wouldn't be a "kids" show, but who cares about that?:thumb:

I have a feeling Ash wouldn't be dropped from the show. Isn't the main character of the show named Hiroshi after the director/ creator of the show? Who would remove a character from their own show when its supposed to be himself.

Um, Ash is Satoshi... XD

I think, if they were CAREFUL, they could delegate him to a minor role as one of the above posters said. With older protagonists it would be feasable to do a timeskip (One where people actually AGE) to get to BW.

Ash could be 20-25ish, still with his buddy Pikachu. But his role would be more like Brock's is now, the older guide. Say he's tired because he's won so much there's noenjoyment in it any more. Then along comes some young trainer who brings the spark back and reminds him how he felt starting out on his journey! Well, what can he do but assist that fresh young trainer any way he can!

Well if you look at the pictures of the movie of Black & White (the one with "Z") , you can clearly see that Ash is
still there.

OK so, when you go to that particular movie in Japan, you get a special "Event" Celebi. The Celebi
lets you meet/catch Zoroark in Platinum (or is it Black/White?)?

Hey Eric how are you doing? Glad to see you are still haninging around the Gym. Sarah won her first Tournement this year, she won the Bremerton Battle Road, and she finished 2nd in Seattle Battle Road going 6-0 before loosing in the finals to Ian W, one of the Top juniors in the Country.

No. The Celebi nets you a Zorua. The "Crown Beasts" (Shiny Suicune, Entei, Raikou) get you Zoroark. You only have to have one of them, thank goodness.

Both events take place in Black & White. There is no data for Zorua or Zoroark in HGSS/DPPt or we would have found it long ago. The Celebi does have an event in HGSS, though, where you can travel through time and meet Giovanni.

As someone stated before, I wouldn't mind having Ash take a break, I would love to see whats going on with old characters such as Ritchie, or Paul, it is known that he (Paul) competed in the Silver Conference, Indigo League Conference, and Ever Grande. If they did release a season on Paul maybe they could explain why he is so cruel and make it a more "older of age" anime. Think about it, his brother is really nice so it's not like he follows him, maybe he possibly had a girlfriend or loved one he lost somehow causing him to see the only way to power is anger (like Sasuke in Naruto)

Just some food for thought.
