Would you sit on your rating?

Hmm, win percentage seems pretty cool. Invites off win percentage, and a higher top cut for invites. Ranking like that would be cool. But... You could go undefeated at a tournament, or in fact 1-0 then drop, and then just never play again and get a trip to worlds right? There could make some sort of tournament attendance limit or something.

Even though this is a supposedly "prize" system, the second PUI took away a large amount of invites to Worlds and added some of them to the prizes in this "prize" system, people's feeling on the system flipped 180 degrees. Instead of it being a fun prize system, it's more of a cut throat, try to get the best rating you can so you can go to worlds, system. IMHO, they need to either take the world invites out of the "prize" system next year and give them away at Regionals, or limit the number of invites given out in the "Prize" system (not top 8 - but like top 4) and take the leftovers and give them out at regionals. Give the people other ways to get to Worlds (other than their one shot at Nationals) and I feel the game will cool down a bit and people won't be as cut throat about it.

why does it sux? ... its different to the past true .. but thats no reason to say it sux.

this year some top players as determined by rating are going to worlds. How can anyone complain about that? Surely no one is going to say that all those at the top of the ratings lucksacked their way to the top.

let us imagine for a minute that i am kyle, with a rating of 2000+
i am the highest rated player in the world
am i going to go to regionals? heck no.
am i going to play in any other event other than possibly nats or battle roads? probably not
i have just lost out on alot of tournoments because i want to keep my rating high
now tell me, how does this make the game more fun?

...and weren't players last year complaining about how 'unfair' it was that there wasn't any reward for consistently doing well at tourneys, instead of 'only' being able to get trips at regionals/nat's/gyms, in case one had 'bad luck' there, wasn't able to attend, etc.?

Looks like POP is damned if they do, damned if they don't...=/

People will complain, that is a given, but I feel both years, the complainers have had a point. And POP's answer wasn't the best IMHO. Last year there were no invites given away by ratings, and all the invites given away at Tournaments. This year there are invites given away by Rating and no invites given away at Tournaments (other than Nationals, which is the constant here). Why can't we have a little of both?

One problem I see first is that there are more Regionals each year than there are invites given to the US (outside of Nationals), well, for the Masters division that is. We have 8 invites given by Ranking, yet 13 Regionals (USA) being held. We don't know exactly how many invites will be given away at Nationals.

So at this point in time, POP couldn't give out an invite to Worlds for the 1st place player at each Regionals (Masters of course).

It would be nice to have a few invites given away by Rating, and then the rest given away at Regionals and Nationals.

Care or don't care, because the only two ways to go to Worlds is to have one of the top 8 rankings in your age group (masters) or make the top 8 at Nationals, 85% of the players in the nation at the beginning of the season already have no chance of going to Worlds.

Last year we had 50 Gyms and Top8 from Nats go to Worlds.

IMO, if we had 50 invites from ratings this year, and Top8 from Nationals, there would be very little complaining over the new system. There would be some complaining over the level of competition at Cities now, but the great MAJORITY of players would be in favor or impartial to the new system.

The complaining is not the result of there being ratings-based invites now, it is the result of the severe reduction in the number of overall people going to Worlds. If you only have 8 invites to give out to N.A., people will complain REGARDLESS of how their given out.

OMG that would be amaizing.

Thats very true. Thats how i feel, and im sure thats how many others feel.

They're probably damned most if they reduce the # of invites. Other than that, I think they'd be best of giving out some to gyms, and some to ranking.
A major issue last year was that many regional winners didnt make worlds. With ranking-based invites along with gyms, those that win regionals would have a ggod shot of making it through rankings, thus less angry people.

btw 54-16

not really
if the mixed it, like people have been pointing out, it would be better
should people get rewards for point the earn at tournoments? definatly
should they get rewarded for winning nationals? oh yes
should either of those be the only system? probably not, seeing as how the punish the other group when you choose one
my point was that the old invite system didnt require players who wanted to go to worlds to skip tournoments, unless they had already won a gym challenge (those were, for good reason, one and done)
that was my point

My Guys...

A 69-10 (1999)
Z 72-22 (1944)
Ax 45-25 (1774)

Against some of the best comp in the midwest! Ax has lost over 10 games to A!

Jake/Dendro is a GREAT player, his rating (under this system) will NEVER add up to his skill level bc he CHOOSES to spend time with his family  (what a horrible thing to do.. Pokymanz 4lyfe! )

I'll take great father/husband over great pokemon player any day.

What is the most points a person can gain in one match? The reason I ask this is because my brother only gained 20-25 points for beating a player who had 250 point rating higher than him, yet when he lost to another person in that same state championship that had a slighty higher ranking than him he lost the same number points. It doesn't make sense that these numbers are almost the same.

give it a few more years and you'll have the opportunity to do both by teaching / grooming your child to become a great pokemon trainer; no reason not to start them young, heck, they know how to roll a die at 2
