Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Yanmega Prime

This card is definitely a great card and considering it has disruption and speed and big hitting it makes for a great deck. I'm sure that some of you may disagree but I believe that this card has potential to win many games if not tournaments.

Its weakness is its number 1 fault. The Poke-Body isn't half bad, but its very very hard to regulate that against every deck. The Poke-Body isn't very consistent, but at least the resistance is nice with all of the Donphans and Machamps running around.

Why would you play Yanmega, who is a stage 1, has 110 HP, hits 70 for no energy, and is x2 weak to Lightning, when you can play Gyarados, who is a stage 1, has 130 HP, hits 90 for no energy, and is +30 weak to lightning?

Because he Yanmega has free retreat.
Yes,Gyarados has more hp,but the Yanmega could have even more hp with help from Shaymin lv.x.Plus,Gyarados kinda needs time to set up while(theroymon here)Yanmega doesn't need much to get set up.

Yanmega does have the Grass support stuff if you want to use it, but really it's very inferior to Donphan as well as to Gyara.

Donphan will do 60 for 1 (without having to mess around with hand sizes), has better typing (not that Yanmega hits for Weakness anyway), and a decent PokeBody (safer use of Expert Belt).

Doesn't Gyarados run Warp Energy for Luxray builds or whatever? Why would you ever want Gyarados NOT active anyway?

Yes,Gyarados has more hp,but the Yanmega could have even more hp with help from Shaymin lv.x.

I guess you can afford some extra setup since you are "faster" than Gyarados, but Shaymin Lv. X has never been in a competitive deck because of its clunkiness and it's a sitting duck for Bright Looks and Dragon Rushes. Don't forget that Blaziken is about to come back.

Plus,Gyarados kinda needs time to set up while(theroymon here)Yanmega doesn't need much to get set up.

I would prefer taking an extra turn or two but having a near-guaranteed damage output than relying on Supporter drops to keep hand sizes equal.

Let's not also forget that 110 is a very important damage amount to hit. Yanmega will sit there wailing away on SP Lv. Xs and never make a KO. Gyarados, however, is a serious threat to them.

Considering judge is so disruptive now running that is not even a question. Copycat will also help considering most people will either have large hands or small hands and since this deck's energy is only 4 call energy, then there is so much room for trainers/supporters. 3-3 Cherrim and expert belt allows it to do a maximum of 120 per attack. Also, you could possibly run Metapod GS. Free retreat also does help a lot as well as Super Scoop Up's. Gyarados will most likely be outsped by Yanmega if it comes down to that and Yanmega also has a 40 snipe attack which can help in certain situations.

There is this little card that some people tech in a few silly rogue decks that is called Dialga G LV.X...iunno, you might have seen it left or right but...

Even if Dialga GX is out, there are so many options to get rid of it it's not even funny. Blaze FB is my favorite option right now with Yanmega and Steelix. As for Shaymin....I like him. Let him get rushed. Gives me a couple of turns to fight back.

Shaymin is good with Mega ... provided they don't do the same thing you talk about doing with Blaze FB to Dialga G. He's a very tempting target since he doesn't add to his own HP.

Cause no one with half a brain would put it on the bench ever, Its not like it stops you from doing ANYTHING, EVER...

Yanmega is a bad gyarados, a bad kingdra, hes totally reliant on some stupid condition, he has a horrible weakness and even then his attacks arent great either.

Did Metapod HGSS dissappear?? No weakness for Grass. DialgaChomp and Luxchomp of course are your worse matchups, but its not hard with Giratina PL, Judge, Copycat, Uxie La.etc Its easy to control your opponents hand and your hand size with hand disruption with team rocket trickery.cyrus intitiative.

I like it, but Yanmega was never my favorite pokemon. Here is the deck I tested tho:

4 Yanma TR
2 Yanmega Prime
2 Yanmega TR
4 Mamoswine GL
1 Spirtomb AR
1 Mesprit La
2 Uxie La
1 Azelf La

4 Judge
3 Copycat
4 Poke Turn
3 Seeker
2-3 Junk Arm

4 Warp

that was the basis of the deck, use both Yanmega to attack 70 retreat and bring up Tomb/Mamoswine GL to place damage or lock trainers. It worked well except vs DialgaChomp, which takes a major squat on it. :(

And Gyarados isn't relying on having 3 Magikarps in the graveyard and Ebelt? All this card does is give you the ability of all the above cards(minus Kindra's splash) coupled with disruption.....plain and simple. Sure it has weakness to Lux GL, but if you are so worried about it then prepare for it. Play Exploud, ebelts, cherrims(either of them), or Shaymin. You could even play Weavile(UD) for all I care. It's just giving you another option of play style. I'll take something this fresh anyday

Yeah, Dialga G is SOOOO EASYYYY to counter with a Yanmega deck. All I have to do is say "There are counters to every card" and provide no decent examples and your argument is defeated.

Stop bashing, it's a decent idea. Here, let me help all of you with some of Yanmega Prime's apparently-less-obvious-than-I-thought strengths.

1. Disruption! This is what made Sablelock great. Running four Judge and Copycat can make it difficult for your opponent to get rolling.
2. More consistency! Running very few energies and only a 4-4 line of your main attacker frees up a lot of spots for drawing and searching Trainers.
3. It's a Stage 1, and therefore easy to set up with Broken Time-Space.
4. It has free retreat.
5. There's plenty of room for techs. I'd advise potentially fitting in a Shaymin Lv.X line to outfit Yanmega with a whopping 150 HP, or perhaps the good old standby of Manectric.

And, let's face it, Gyarados and Dialga G Lv.X aren't played as much as they probably should be in a lot of areas. The deck has decent matchups against LuxChomp and VileGar, and we'll see how it fairs against the other emerging Triumphant archetypes. Is Yanmega the BDIF? No, it's not. But it can be a fun and surprisingly good rogue, if my theorymon holds true.
