Zero's Adventures in Georgia

So I decided to head down to Georgia... something about a marathon. Half of the family's flights got cancelled (despite having all been on the same flight). We eventually got in and settled down. I'll be posting reports every day. So today, I played in Cosmic Comics. This was supposedly the shortest one to be expected (because it was right after Christmas). I decided to play uber consistent Gyarados today. I did not trust my luck... so I decided to accept my losses and try to ensure that I didn't have very many bad starts.

Round 1: VS Kingdra
This was a pretty bad game. He wiffed out on an uxie and the game went downhill from there. He eventually got a Floatzel GL X out (ftw), but it was far too late. I don't recall him getting out any Kingdras...
1-0

Round 2: VS Mirror
This was a really bad game. I got a bad start... but eventually pulled into a Uxie for 7. The game went well for me from there, except I miscounted my Dos vs Magikarp count in my deck. I discarded Azelf early, which caused me problems. My last 3 prizes were 2 Dos and 1 Mesprit. I got one of my Dos KO'd with a Rescue and Bebe in hand. I got into the bebe... and facepalmed. I scrambled to get a Combee. I eventually took a big risk Belting a Dos and attempted to draw into 2 Bat... but failed. This was a pretty fail game... but I eventually came on top.
2-0

Round 3: VS LuxChomp (Michael P)
This was a very fun game. After the game, I found out that this was one of the top players in the world... wee... the game was back and forth, but I eventually came on top due to some risky Expert Belt play (double edged swords ftw).
3-0

Round 4: VS LuxChomp (Ben)
This guy couldn't do very well. He didn't play a single supporter in the entire game.
4-0

Round 5 VS VileGar (Harrison)
This was a really weird game. He got a pretty good start... as did I. Really bad. I cannot win this matchup unless the opponent plays a really bad start.
4-1

Top Cut:
T4 VS LuxChomp (Ben):
This game was somewhat decent. I got a pretty good setup... and my opponent took a bit too long to set up. I got a bunch of chain Mesprit drops. He eventually takes out a Belted Dos, but I was too far ahead of him.
5-1

VS Luxchomp (Ben) Game 2:
Once again, he could barely get set up. He ran out of Luxrays EARLY and had very few outs to any of what I did.
6-1

T2 VS VileGar (Harrison):
This game was pretty even, which is very bad for me. He Lost Zoned a Magikarp, which is terrible for me. When he eventually KO'd my Dos, I just scooped due to being unable to get another one out.
6-2

T2 VS VileGar (Harrison) Game 2:
I had a lot of trouble this game. My opponent trainer locked me really hard, so I was unable to do anything at all. I had nothing to really do this game. He completely played around me. Crobat + Fainting spell my Azelf/Uxie /Mesprit. He simply destroyed me. GG
6-3

So I got 2nd. Not very bad, I suppose. MY fault entirely for not playing a counter to VileGar. Harrison was a great player and a lot of fun to play with.

Great job taking 2nd, was Harrison from Florida? If so, he's a pretty good player. A bunch of us from AL will be coming Tuesday and Wednesday so I look forward to seeing you there.

Nice job Zach! Awesome to hear you're in the Georgia marathon, and congrats on 2nd place! Gyarados is a good deck to run nowadays, and you seem to be pretty good with it too.

Good luck in your future tournaments!:thumb:

Yep...Harrison is from Orlando...and a very Good Player....So is Zach.
More good players coming in from Florida tomorrow....!!!

GrandDaddy

Nice job Mirman. Nice job.

Kevin you loser if you're reading this then I am stealing your deck Tuesday, so better have two decks with you :).

So I could not sleep last night! Not much to say. ;D I played VileGar today.

Round 1: VS Yanmega Honchkrow?
This was a weird game. I took a while getting out anything... my opponent set up a Yanmega Prime early... but he really could not match my handsize. I dropped my Vile before Gar, and took a bit too long to setup Gar. I always kept a small handsize to avoid my opponent from attacking. The "clinch" move was that I double Shadow Roomed his benched murkrow and crobat'd it. GG
1-0

Round 2: VS Steelix
This was a really fun game. I love nonstandard decks that make me play in a silly way. I got my Vileplume out ASAP to avoid him from healing. I took a bit longer to pull out my Gar... but it got there. I got a good fainting spell + Rescue Energy, and KO'd all of his power users (Uxie, Blissey, Azelf, etc). Eventually, it came down to me VS his 2 Steelix. I did 2 Shadow Rooms on his benched Steelix, and I did 2 Gengar Prime attacks (forget what it is called) on his benched steelix. Really close game... came to 1-1 prizes. I eventually took it, however. GG
2-0

Round 3: VS MewDos
This was a sad game for me. I HAD a Spiritomb in my hand... but I didn't drop it. He was able to Regimove out of trainer lock and KO my oh-so-important Unown Q. The game progressed, but he just out-Mew'd me. GG
2-1

Round 4: VS Gyarados
I cannot remember too much about this game. As I recall, it was epic in some way. Can't really say. ;D I remember that he had 2 Karp and a Regice prized... it was still pretty close with that in mind
3-1

Round 5: VS Gyarados again.
This game I can remember. I started attacking his bench, and hit a Fainting spell. I quickly Lost Zoned a Gyarados, Combee, and Dialga G X with Gengar Prime. My opponent had no way to get Magikarp out from discard pile. GG
4-1

Round 6: VS VileGar (Jason K. -- Ness)
This was a fun game. We played around a bit. We both knew how the game works... 1st person to Shadow Room Gengar SF wins. I made a very good move in seeing how he made a Haunter active... and started attacking. I felt safe to evolve into Gengar Prime (no power), and lost zone'd the Gengar SF that I KNEW he was holding (just how the matchup works). The game continues, and he sets up a Curse Gengar. I ended up lost zoning that as well. He started seting up a Mewtwo, but my resources were all gone. I leveled up into Gengar X prematurely, which allowed him to put it to sleep safely. Time was called, and he Sleep Poisoned my Spiritomb for the game. GG
4-2

Me for being unable to draw into a Pokemon Collector... ever

jason K. was there? Crap! i couldn't make it to this one.

The caliber of the players at these events is VERY high (which is why I was happy to judge swiss yesterday. Wish I could have stayed to see the results of T8.)

It was great to see the variety of decks and some of the interesting variations on the standards.
53 Masters yesterday.

^Out of the 53 masters, I would say that about halfish would be able to make top at worlds without too much trouble. It is REALLY intense... these cities are more competitive than you've played at for sure.

Georgia and Florida make up a good percentage of the world's best Pokemon players. I mean. You just have to experience the marathon to know exactly how brutal the competition is.

If any of you want to find me I will have a dragon hat and a premier ball playmat. Ace, I have seen very few local Georgians this week... What I find to be amazing is that this is such a large collection of top players. I would say this is harder to win in than SOME States because you are SO likely to play an amazing player no matter which table number you are at. States usually have some average players...

You should play a different deck everyday man! Sounds like you've been doing great so far though.

Nice job with a 4-2 record, Zach! Looks like your becoming quite a master with playing many kinds of decks, from SPs, to Gyarados, and now Vilegar! That game with Jason K. must've been pretty epic too, especially since it was the mirror.

Good luck in your next tournament!:thumb:

So Ann-Marie finally got here! Very happy day... Not much to say. The event space was very cramped and just pretty bleh. I played Mew Gyarados today.

Round 1: VS Gyarados:
I open 2nd with my Smeargle. I use his Hunter, my Hunter, and then BTS into Dos for the 2ndTK.
1-0

Round 2: VS Gyarados:
We both had amazing starts. I went 2nd again. He had all the supporters he wanted... I had Smeargle start. I was able to pull out a BTS Gyarados Hunter For the game.
2-0

Round 3: VS LuxChomp:
This was a sad game. I was half asleep (as was he). I played down. The game starts off normal. He Azelfs something and passes. I Smeargle into his Collector, and spot that he only has 5 prizes (no KO's). We agreed to not bother the judges and have him put a poketurn back (as he claims he would have done). I then proceed to Mesprit and Hunter. We continue on, and he plays Azelf again, and picks up prizes while power lox'd. Wee ;D We just said put them back... he already knew the prizes so eh. The game was over pretty early. I had my Dos and I Hunter Owned him ;D
3-0

Round 4: VS VileGar (Stephan T.):
I actually felt good about this game. MewDos USUALLY beats VileGar. Neither of us got a psychic energy until turn 4 ish. The game proceeded as normally... I saw a fire energy from a Mull, and huntered back my Regice ASAP. He lost Zoned 2 Mew (assuming I only played 2). The game eventually came down to him sniping out my bench. it ended up 1-1 prizes, but he had a 140 HP Gengar X that I couldn't 1 shot... GG
3-1

Round 5: VS Luxchomp
Not much to say here. I got a really bad start. I needed to get greedy with Uxie and hunter, but I KNEW I should have Huntered a Mesprit to avoid getting donked. Not much to say, I had nothing I could have done.
3-2.

Round 6: VS Charizard:
This game was pretty bleh. Uxie, Azelf, and Magikarp are prized... wee. I had to go into Mew to attack (not favorable). I eventually got ERL'd out for the win. >.<
3-3

Round 7: VS LuxUxie
This game was pretty sad. I went 2nd. I opened out Junk Arming and Double Drawing into a Unown Q donk ;D So amazing at this game
4-3

Props:
-All my wins being 5 turns or less
-Winning most, if not all, of my fun games (playing full games)
-Ann-Marie for being the most amazing player ever
-So many players

Slops:
-Tournament starting too late

-Tournament for being hot and smelly and cramped
-So many players
