*sigh*
The rumor that was going last year was that WotC was going to purposely drop Pokemon and kill it. What's happening here is that Pokemon dropped WotC and WotC is willing to help transition it.
As DMTM said, if you believe otherwise, take it somewhere else. It's hard enough to deal with what is happening without making it worse. Last warning.
Further "off-topic" posts will be deleted.

Can we please get this thread back on topic? As 'Pop posted above, talking about who is/was "right" before this decision was announced isn't going to do anyone any good at this moment in time. The thing we need to do is figure out how we're going to pick up the pieces and keep this game we all love alive through the end of the Wizards era and into the next. Please, let's concentrate on the important task at hand...

While I like MtG as a CARD GAME, I'll admit I DON'T LIKE many of the people who play it, unless they are my friends.
Why do you think I ultimately quit Magic? The players (generally speaking) are jerks.
Although harsh, I agree with the consensus. While the game is Wizards, Wizards will support it whole-heartedly. But as soon as it's gone, they aren't inclined to support it, legally or otherwise. It's the reality of the matter. Not to say that the MT's won't continue playing it (I'll still play it no matter where it goes). But Wizards/Hasbro as the omnipotent, emotionless corporation won't.
Though I don't agree that we should be silent about TPC's OP plans on Wizards property; why should we? I mean people constantly discuss Decipher's Star Wars CCG on Wizards' Star Wars TCG forum, and Lord knows everyone talks about Yu-Gi-Oh here...

Thanks Mom and Pop,
We really need to get back on track here. This thread wasn't started to do a ton of mudslinging it was started in the intention that we really do have a game even after WotC is forced to leave it.
Sure we should contact TPC or Nintendo to get some answers on what their plans are but I do think that we would really have a lot to gain by organizing ourselves without relying on any company. That way we aren't as sensitive to changes as we might be otherwise.....
I'm really saddened about Marsh's decline and I sincerelly hope that he will reconsider. But if he doesn't I'm sure we can find someone else to take the lead.
And DMTM thanks for letting us do this here just as I thought you would . I do hope that you and MTM will join our organization too just for your passion for this game and to keep all the friendships that you have built up over the years.
So anyone have anymore suggestions?
I think we first of all need a workgroup on how to build up this organisation. Then after doing so we can contact TPC and Nintendo to see if they will let us know their plans for the OP future. If they don't have such plans let's get a couple of workgroups up, one on ranking system and one on OP series of some kind.
We also need a representative from each country that is willing to take the responsibility to organize the players within that country. Maybe you need several in the US but we will work that out too I'm sure.
So how about it guys and girls? We can do this with AIM and MSN and this great forum we can make sure that we can still play the game and have the community going.

Best of luck with Nintendo of America. Here is the response I received back from them (email address - [email protected]):
Hi there, Pokefan.
We are flattered that you have so much interest in evaluating Nintendo games and offering to help create a game. Most games are created in Japan, and only select employees work on the project. Not many gamers realize that the average video game already requires over a year to create, so we're unable to accept any unsolicited ideas or suggestions. We also receive way too many suggestions to use them anyway.
Plus, at this time we do not have any plans to create a program that would allow players to evaluate games in their homes. The consumer electronics industry is highly competitive. For security reasons alone we would not be able to send games to individuals before we shipped them to retail stores.
Most of our game testing is done by Game Play Counselors and our Research and Development Teams. Having game evaluations done at a central location allows us to evaluate all games in the same way. Much of the evaluation process involves watching an evaluator's reaction as they play. Sometimes the information we obtain from watching a game evaluator is just as important, or more important, than the information they provide after they've played the game.
You do, however, have the ability to let us know what you like. Each month Nintendo Power magazine has a Player's Poll Contest. This contest asks you to send in an information card concerning Nintendo games and products. We use this information to evaluate the success of current products and to develop plans for future products. For information on subscribing to Nintendo Power, please visit our website (www.nintendo.com) and click on Subscribe, which is located to the right of the screen.
There you go, Jeff. Thanks for your email and good luck with all your games!

Hello and congrats on getting the bid for POKEMON TCG! I like many master professors of the game are hoping that you will continue what WOTC have started with the leagues and TCG events. We have been playing the game for more than 4 years and have really enjoyed it. I am also a programer in addition to being a TO and a gym leader for the Raleigh NC area. If any assistance is needed, PLEASE feel free to call on me and I will do everything in my power to assist. I don't want to see the game that I have put all of my hard work into for the last 4 years go away. And there are ALOT of others here any across the country that also feel the same way. Is there a contact person for us to talk to for updates on what you plan to do? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this-

This might be more of a rant for the younger men and women out there that don't entirely understand everything....so if I go off the deep end a little, apologies in advanced. I hope I dont ramble..
A few points I would like to make about Licensing and the renewal or non-renewal of it.
In the field I work in, Licensing is a priority. When we loose a licensed product, yes it is detrimental and the effects are felt across the board, but we do not by any means turn our back on it. A majority of the time, we attempt continued support of the product and allow the product to be sold in our stores. Licensing does not necessarily mean loss of retail sales. It just simply means a loss of the ability to Organize and Develop the product. Does it mean that WotC will continue to allow Pokemon to be played in their stores? That is questionable. But to turn away from the possibility of allowing the product and the game to not be sold side by side of “Your Own” product is a calculated risk. Many corporations will not do this do to those risks. Is it possible to continue to play at WotC stores, that will be up to the Companies involved. However, allowing people to play there draws prospective buyers to new TCGs but can be viewed as a conflict of interest.
When Non-renewal hits, corporations are sometimes bound by laws to not discuss certain aspects of the product’s future life. So for some nay-sayers out there that are suddenly against WotC and who they are, well it is absurd. Reflect on all that has been done for you during the game that is positive. DMTM and the other MTs are as forthright as they can be right now I am sure. If they suggest a certain action to take, take it. That may be all they can give to you. Becoming combative and presenting an air of doom and gloom is just a bad reaction to an already worse situation.
Think of their transitions. To us, it is a game we play, however competitive you were. To them, it is their livelihood! Their everyday joy from a “Kids Game” is now out of their hands…literally. Business happens. Life Happens. Think of their Families who probably have had to live Pokemon just as much as we have. It is difficult for everyone.
Finally, much respect goes out to those in the Corporate Ranks that have endured hardships and a roller coaster ride with this “Fad” of life. Is it the end, no one knows and no one can say right now, but man it has been a great ride. Everyone should show some respect for the Men and Women that have fought tooth and nail (Paper and pen and Carpal Tunnel) for our enjoyment and life altering Game. It is with great sorrow that the days are now truly numbered…
My families prayers go out to those at WotC and those that this decision directly effects. I hope that no job loss will occur and you will all continue to prosper...

Dumbledore, I'm very much willing to help create a replacement for OP when we leave WotC. If we do not get the aid needed from the sponsor, then we must work on it ourselves. Believe me, $5 a week for tournaments could go a LONG way. This could be used for packs, boxes, even plane tickets for our own worlds series! Then, there's the possibility for our own personal SBZ's too. I've brainstormed an idea for an unofficial Jamboree tournament, most likely held on July 26th for us Texans who cannot go to GenCon [ March 14, 2003, 01:18 PM: Message edited by: The true lord of the pits ]

Hey all!A few quick comments I`d like to share before I run out the house.I briefed over quickly what`s been said so far,so if I missed anything,or something comes up later to get me ranting,I`ll post it later.Anyways, without further ado:
Dumbledore:Great idea and it`s good to see how many people really want to keep the game/OP going. In the past,I felt that if WotC would lose the license, the game would die.But now, after seeing everyone coming together(except for a few...),I have great hope that the game will continue A.W.(After WotC).
Let us try and get this back on the topic please.
DMTM
Marsh:It`s sad that you want to leave and think the way you do.If you do decide to go,best wishes to you,a true friend I will always remember.I`m very glad that I got the chance to meet you IRL.
With that said, damn straightI am obsessed with this game!I`ll tell everyone bluntly that you must do things for yourself if you want to be happy in life.If you can`t make yourself happy, how can you make others happy? The way that I look at it is simple. What if something were to happen to me tomorrow(pick any day/time)?I want to enjoy my life as much as possible in case something really does happen.
I will always do things for myself that make me happy! That includes Pokemon and helping everyone involved!
Us mods/admins:Remember,we are not WotC employees and will do everything we can to make sure Pokemon continues A.W.As `Pop said so eloquentyly-"In case some of you have forgotten, the reason all of us mods are here is because we love the game too!"
A new site?:Remeber everyone,The Pokegym was not of Wizards creation and we will be discussing to see what we can and will do with the `Gym once WotC no longer has anything to do with Pokemon. So,as for a site, plan on right here on the `Gym!
OP with or without DCI:Hmmm, more than likely, something new will have to be made since the DCI is property of WotC.However,it states in the quote above from the DCI Reporter this little tidbit:
This software may be copied and distributed freely on any media by Wizards and by anyone Wizards may authorize to do so.
So,maybe the MT`s can somehow see about getting permission for us to use it,etc..Remains to be seen.
One final word of parting I want to say.Remember, alot can happen between now and August.Keep the faith!

Sensei, great to have you here. Now that Skywolf so nicely has reconsidered we can really start something that will move us forward.
I would like to say thanks to WotC for teaching us all so much about how to run this game that I'm confident for the future.
We can and will have OP after WotC!
See you later today here.
And please keep your fingers crossed for my sons bandyteam who is going for gold today.....

Great to see you here with us, Mods ... but I was sure you would be with us
You're absolutely right, we have to be all together.
I'm ok with a new topic to discuss if Wizards are spys, killers, terrorists, ... but please let this one focused on the future of the game and what we can do fot it, thanks.
Marsh closed the door, but I believe he's still right behind it, listening to what we say I'm maybe wrong, but when you are so passionate, you can't leave like that. I hope to be wrong actually
One thing we could do between now and August is to tun a lot of sanctioned tournaments. This would make the players happy, ... and show TPC/Nintendo that OP is stronger than ever.
We have definitely to be organized and contact TPC/Nintendo with one voice. I like the idea of Dumbledore of having one representative of the players (and Profs, judges and TO's) in each country. USA will, of course, need more than one.
I know a lot of people in Europe, and I already have an idea of people who could do it very well. Sweden (Dumbledore), Norway (Golduck), UK (Ukpokemonpro and/or FreddyK), Belgium (and France) (me), Denmark (Michael From).
I'll contact Profs/Master Profs I personally know in Holland, Germany and Italy.
We have to know who will do what in the future between Nintendo and TPC. Who will sell the cards, who will be responsible for OP, ... We also have different Nintendo offices in Europe. How will that be organized ?
I think the first think to do is to contact TPC USA. I'll write to TPC Japan this week end, to the people I've met in Hawaii last summer.
Got to go ... 2 tournaments today

First thought in my mind we already have a group of dedicated players that are responsible for holding things together somewhat. The Compendium. They can be our new MT's, "keepers of the flame", Rulings Judge & Jury. Seriously. They have a web site, they are already active in the role of moderators here, they keep the rules and the order. Almost plug and play. Representatives from other countries could be nominated and elected to the board. I'd vote Michel for Europe - as a matter of fact Michel has already provided us with a list of movers and shakers in that part of the world. Juggie may be around for the down under contingent. I like the idea a lot. If we formally create the group (like legal stuff) we can use the Compendium as our representatives to Nintendo/TPC. They're a pretty respectable/respected crowd. I can honestly say that the game would not be what it is without these guys. [ March 15, 2003, 05:13 AM: Message edited by: ScythKing ]

I agree with the idea of the importance of our Compendium friends.
Apolonia, you're right too, but I'm afraid we'll have a communication problem with japanese speaking people. Worth to try anyway.
Talking about rules, ity could be logical that the Japanese rules become international, no ?

After my emotional roller coaster ride of the last 3 days, my commitment to this game has been renewed and to some extent even strengthened!
Why? Because we now have a proverbial clean slate to start with. This is a VERY good thing. The first thing we need is a website, and some direction. I am willing to spearhead this "next step", I need leadership to help me with this task, people that have a BURNING desire to see this game survive.
I am going to try again to ask for permission to use Pokemon to form a NON-Profit organization, and in order for me to do that, I need people with leadership capabilities, so we can begin on the RIGHT foot this time, and show TPC that we are serious about this game's continued survival.
So, please post to this thread, if you are interested in a leadership position with PPI (Pokemon Players International).
Together, we can bring about positive change so this game can be enjoy for many decades to come.
Who's with me here?
I look forward to hearing from you all.

I am interested in helping with your organization.
I have always wanted to be a part of a body of Pokemon players dedicated to seeing the game survive. If I can help launch the organization, it would make me terribly happy.
I have been a moderator at PTCO and am currently a moderator here. I also am cheif Deck Doctor at the site I linked to, so if you need moderators on the new boards (I am assuming there will be boards), and/or Deck Doctors, I am willing to help in both of those ways and many more.
