I say they reprint base set alakazam and chancey! My dad's (Pokidad) favorite pokemon are the phycic type [like DMTM] so way back when [when jungle hadn't even come out and we had no idea what the pokegym was] he created this alakazam chancey deck with pokecenter and it was amazing! Everyone called it stall, but not when my dad drew all 6 prizes because of the chancey! And they should also definitely reprint base set charizard...with entie howl out that should prove to be very competitive! no? as you can see my favorite pokemon are the firet type so they have to reprint the charizard! But if they reprint blastoise then jonathan will have a hayday and be very happy, and if venasaur is reprented then the same for tim!
Wow this set sounds really cool! Can't wait to see what it really brings to the table!

SauroN, great idea! If the Blastoise they reprint does turn out to be base set Blastoise-or even better, as Goth said, the CD Blastoise(same card, different art), then you bet Team Cerulean is back.

I really think the Base versions will be reprinted. These are the possible scenarios:
Venucenter decks will completely eat Feraligatr alive. IF that darned alligator doesn't find another insane way to survive!
Charizard will return and give Big Fire decks a huge boost and will be the bane of Venucenter "=/"
But then we have the mighty, the powerful the...turtle eh =/
BLASTOISE. We will see the return of Raindance. It will have a huge impact. It will be so powerful that even electric will be brought back. We will see the return of Rocket's Zapdos. We will see Ampharos. Electric decks will be powerful again.
Now all these decks have a great weakness against another very powerful deck which itself has a great weakness. Now we might even see many multicolored decks. There will be balance in Modified if these Base reprints are made.

Gee, venucenter WOULD be powerful, if it didn't get blighted so easily.. can you say second (or first) turn knock out? I would probably play raindance or like charizard =P

Er, right. Everybody mikes mastakes. If it has parallel foils and R/B Pokemon, how could it be something other than a "new one?" Unless it's Vending(which I think was confirmed against already, right?) or a Reprint set(which old man points out the unlikelyhood of), it HAS to be a new set. Maybe a big compilation of Japanese promos? These are big questions.

Hmm...this crossed my mind sometime yesterday. Does anyone remember those Bulbasaur/Squirtle sets/decks? The sets or decks had the Bulbasaur/Squirtle figures as the set icon thingy. I remember some of these from a Pokémon Magazine I used to have, but threw away recently (Beckett! )
In my opinion, this would be VERY likely, as they were the best of "Red and Blue", because they have Bulbasaur (going up to Venasaur, a good Pokémon, I would believe, to use in Red/Blue, and Blastoise, another good beefy Pokémon).
Anyone have any thoughts?

I concur with the nay-sayers; this doesn't necessairly mean BASE SET Char-Blast-Venu will be in the set. Remember, there WERE OTHER Charizards, Blastoise, and Venusaur printed in the past in Japan... what's saying that THOSE won't be in the set?
My guess is that it'll complement Vending cards since Vending had Starter Pokémon but no Stage 2 Evos. More specifically, it could be the "CD Promo" versions, as in the Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur that were released with about 10 other cards in a little CD sold in Japan. ... But then Venusaur was already released from that set. Hmmmm....

Well our random speculation is based on the fact that WOTC doesnt have the power to make their own cards.
It may be vending... but BS venasaur seems like it would make modified to even...

Awesome sig! Nice that MTM/DMTM are part of the crew...as it should be.
On the topic, I think it would be nice to have Base versions of the Big 3 in this set and hence Modified. They really never had a chance in BS since, say, fossil, due to the BBP & especially hyper-removal decks. It would be nice to see them get a chance to shine in Organized Play.
I'm not sure Blastoise/'Gatr would be as unstoppable as plain 'Gatr...just because its two Stage 2s. Gatr/Parasect is tough enough to pull off.
With the big 3 would not every OHKO Archetype have a non-weakness OHKO Archetype against it? [ March 24, 2002, 06:56 PM: Message edited by: bulbasnore ]

I think we may see a Dark Golbat and some other "Darks" in this set because it seems to be Wizards' preparation to rotate Team Rocket and the Gyms out of Modified. (Mysterious Fossil would be nice to have too.)

Hope he gives a few more clues. I am still waiting for a good Snorlax for the currnet Unlimited and Modified Enviroments (back when Psychic Types ruled an only MP Mewtwo did more than 30, the Jungle was useful). Snorlax is Rest, Hyperbeam, and a whole lot of HP (at least 100, but obviously not more than 120 for game balance). Speaking of game balance, I never have seen a truly "Broken" card, but then I think I have a stricter definition of the term (NG Sneasel just barely makes it as "not broken").
Like CPUdiscarding2forOak (hope I spelled that right), I would love to see several old trainers reappear (at least MF or an equivelent card). I think Modified desperately needs ER. Before you decide to kill me, bear in mind that I am of the opinion that Pokemon should have attacks that are either: a)inexpensive, b)worth waiting for your opponent to use up all of their ER/SER, and c) that a Tool that protects Energy from being removed should be made (kind of like one of the Brock Trainers, but that works for any Pokemon its attached to). As modified currently exists, though, almost any of the Pre-Rocket cards would be "broken".
I think that the set will eithr be the vending set, some of the crucial TR cards that may be lost if the set is dropped, or a combination of the above (and Japanese promos we haven't gotten).
Now if we only had some more Imakuni cards, the game could really be fun. [ March 25, 2002, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: Otaku ]

The cards in the CD only had different art to the Base versions. Their attacks and powers were the same. The only other Japanese promos were Neo2 Charizard and Dark Venusaur. The Venusaur in the CD had nearly identical art to a japanese corocoro promo Venusaur. That one was the US promo 13 venusaur. The intropack Blastoise and Venusaur were the same as the CD versions.

Maybe it will be a mix. Maybe they'll take a few Base Cards, A couple Jungle, A few Japanese cards from various sets, and make the rest completely new.
One card they should put in is Bill. He's a good trainer and nowhere near broken. A holo Bill would look funny.

Base Charizard in Modified... It MIGHT actually be playable! Don't get your hopes too high though. I know a lot of you want Base Venusaur and Base Blastoise to be reprinted, so do I. Modified is going to get REALLY interesting if they do re-print some of the older cards!

"If memory serves me correctly..."
American Promo #13 Venusaur was, in Japan, a Gameboy Cart promo pack-in. If you look at the cards, the American promo is slightly off-center compared to the Japanese CD promo one. Plus the attack and power are different.
Arcanine, Mewtwo(Nintendo Power got new art), Cool Porygon, and maybe Season 8's Snorlax are all CD promos. CD Promo Starter's Pictures > Base Set Starter's Pictures. And being otherwise identical, I think they would be good choices. Feel free to make all new versions of the other cards though.
