OK,no I`m not.But it`s what I`ve heard several people say over the past year and I wanted to post this for a long time but I never did get around to it.But now it`s really been heard quite a bit lately and I feel this issue needs addressing.

So,if you want to go play another game, then fine.Do so.I currently do but I`m not going to yell I`m "quitting Pokemon" for them. But yes, there are several reasons as to why we`ve been hearing this lately.I`ll attempt to cover a few of them but if anyone else wants to cover others that I didn`t mention, then feel free to do so.

I`m quitting because WotC doesn`t care for the 15+:

Waaaaa!

Now,don`t get me wrong,I want the 15+ division back as much as you do.But you have to look at this twofold.

•WotC has done so much for this game(and us) that no other company has ever come near to them.We all owe them a great bit of gratitude for everything they have done for us and to whine on and on and saying I`m quitting is just acting like spoiled little brats.Sure,if you want something, then fight for it.But don`t go waaaaing that WotC doesn`t care for you. They do.Maybe you won`t get everything you want, but don`t be ungrateful for what they have done for us over the years.

•The Professor Program. It may not be "your cup of tea" but it`s a really good program and is getting better for the coming season.I won`t go into any lengths here as it`ll take too long, but we are being given something that is fun(and yes it is) and we will get rewarded for such.Maybe you don`t like it much, but if you give it half a chance,I`ll bet you will. Also, you should be grateful for what they are giving. No other company can touch WotC in this department and WotC isn`t obligated to give you or me anything.

WotC hasn`t given any info out and the game is dying!:

C`mon!Once again acting like spoiled brats. As I stated before,WotC has done alot for the game and everyone. They have given free trips out to many.We have had many Organized Tournaments by them(i.e.STS`s,Qualifiers,Challenges,Worlds,etc..).Why are you complaining?Sure,if you have concerns then voice them. But once again, don`t go crying "I`m quitting!"...unless you are a quitter. Then go ahead.Quit.I`m sticking around for all the fun and memories.

We don`t get any support overseas.:

Now,here I feel for you guys.I really hope you guys can get your situation straightened out. While I fully understand and sympathize, not to mention I would be fired up as well, quitting the game would never be an option for me.I love this game and all the friends I`ve made.

Sure,it`s been hard getting any kits over there. But keep fighting for the game you love!Don`t be a quitter.Nothing is going to come in my way of the game and I hope it`s the same for everyone.I will not quit and I don`t want you to either.

Michel and Freddy,as well as some others, have done alot for you guys and you guys need to support them and help out in any way you can, even if it`s just a "thanx for all you do,man!" compliment.Keep plugging away and I`m sure that there are brighter days ahead.Fight for the game and friends you love!

All in all,as I stated before,we should be grateful for all WotC has given us.No other company has done what they have done and we owe them our thanx and gratitude. They owe us nothing, but have given out alot to us.You should be thankful.

Oh,and just as an FYI,I`m posting this from what I,Michael Proch, feels. It has nothing to do with WotC or being an admin in any way.

Michael,

the problem that we are stuggling with in the UK is how to avoid the game quitting us!

How can we make pokemon survive with little to no support from the local office?

email me please rather than clutter up the thread.

Ian , hoping that my Board Name isn't prophetic.

I hope you got my email Pokesensei, we really do work hard for the game over here but it feels real lonely when you're trying and the company that produces the game doesn't give a fig.

Now this game is at a real turning point for us all but it is in danger of becoming a world series with just the US and Japan taking part!

We want to play, we do play but it is really something when we are denied the tools to grow the game by the very people who's job it is to work with us not against us.

Echoing what my colleagues are saying, we really are hosting our own 'Challenge' type events to keep the game alive, and are trying our best to still get people excited about league with Season 1-5 promos and badges from YEAR 2 in our leagues here. Even though the MANY players here have earned them again and again, they still keep coming to league because the game is so enjoyable.

I also arrange to have boosters being sold through the leagues so that the players can get ahold of the cards while WotC still wrangles for months on end with distributors at the expense of the players falling behind on the game. The boxes I guess filter through from the US and so it IS in the interests of the US branches of WotC some may say to help us too as they profit from these sales in the end. One way or another, people buy these cards from the company. It's not the customers' fault that they can't get the cards here any other way.

We can't do any more than what we do and we still do it without ANY support from WotC - please hear us WotC-UK! Thanks for flagging our issues and your support, Da Ladies Man! [Big Grin]

mike,
I hear your story on this complexing isuue on people leaving and let me put my 2 cents in on all these topics:
For one the 15+ has been getting many parts of pokemon back. Wizards gave us the 4 trips to worlds and the rochester. The 15+ was given a rebirth in the world of pokemon. The 15+ grew more in 2002 then in any year. The game isent falling down in the 15+ its rebuilding slowly.

The wizards poeple arent giving info and the game is dying:
Here i hear ya. Only professor got MTM's warning about how they are working very hard to get the info up and they wont have it up till they get all the i's dotted and the t's crossed. They are working hard to keep it up. Give them a little time. They are working around this renewal which is thier main concern for you the pokemon player. Give them time. Theyll have it up you just gotta give them TIME!

The overseas issue:
Here like sensei i hear ya loud and clear. 2 yars ago i as over in englad and found one of the only leauges left and it was fading to magic. The games were falling through and the leauge had only 3 players left from thier 32 player start. I was lucky enough to get my book from that shop and they nver got to johto there. It might of gotten there but it looked like the game was fading quickly. I hope the overseas issue imporves and the game hold there.

The whole thing is MTM and DMTM are working like dogs (no insult to them) to get you every bit of info they can give in a small amount of time and they are fighting to get this game back from the grave. Dont quit till you see wht the y have. Ok. [Cool]

I'm curious Pokesensei. What other TCGs do you play? How do you rank Pokemon (strategic-wise) with those other games?

Here's why I ask. Since picking up LOTR (Lord of the Rings), I've come to realize how much more luck-based Pokemon is than certain other TCGs. I still greatly enjoy Pokemon. However, I don't find that it stretches my creative brain cells as much as other TCGs do. So, I find myself playing less tournaments and more casual play.

Regarding your comments:

15+ Issue

The Professor Program NEEDS a competitive branch in order to attract and retain the younger professors. Without somekind of Tournament Series for the Professors (similiar to the GC/SC series for the 14- kids), the Professor Program will be lacking.

Nevertheless, I agree that WOTC is doing more than other TCG companies to support tournament and casual play.

No News from WOTC

Can you understand the disappointment a near-15-year-old kid feels when his hopes for playing in one last GC/SC are dashed by broken, pre-mature promises and schedule delays?

Sure, WOTC has given us much in the way of tournaments. Nevertheless, that's no excuse for adhoc releases of information.

I'm VERY pleased with how WOTC previewed cards in Legendary Collection and Expedition before they were released. I think that was a very positive step in their efforts to get information out.

BTW, thanks for your preview of the Battlezone kits.

Overseas Support

I hope things get straightened out soon. Europe has some of the best players in the world.

Hey, ive been Gone a LONG time now but this topic seemed to yella t me so here i am posting, man football takes up a ot of time. As is see it 15+ players are getting used to the fact that the game will never gain back what it once was and they feel as though they shoudl just play for the fun and for that one chance they ahve a trip and spend more of their free time doing somethign else because there is no use putting all your energy in to somethign that wont give you somethign as beneficial back. It is devastating to see somethign that you ahve done and played so long hauled away form you, i eman i just turned 15 about 10 days ago and i cant believe that i wont be abel to participate in any more events, it really is devastating. I also think the overseas issue NEEDS to be cleared up in order to keep this game alive. On the other hand i also believ that wotc is doing their best to try to correct this really bad situationa dn am in full support of them. This si jsut form the eyes of a nwly turned 15 year old, i am in no way complaning jsut stating my feelings on the current issue at hand. Thanks for hearing me out. Also ive said it once and ill say it again. The STS's were the GREATEST success of this game, IMO...THE GREATEST!

IMO Steve P said it all. 15+ needs a competitive branch PERIOD. I'm 18 and the only thing that keeps me in this game is the tournaments because it has died here and there is no way to revive it. I'd love a CHANCE at a trip, but making 15+ the same as 14- IMO could NEVER happen for this game. It's a kids game, and i NEVER wanted to say this but it ALWAYS will be.

Steve:I`ve dabbled in Magic a little and played Magi-Nation for awhile although I haven`t played it for almost a year now.Life is busy and what spare time I have now,I use it in running the Pokemon League two nights a week and to D&D which I have loved ever since High School.Oh,My friend at the store briefly showed me LotR,so I played a few games of that.Fun game.

Strategicwise,Pokemon is pretty good, but a little less than those mentioned above obviously. However,Pokemon is my fave TCG just as D&D is my fave Role-Playing game.I`ll always be in it no matter what.

As for the 15+ issue,I agree that we do need a competetive branch.I`m all for the 15+ returning and really do hope it does return. In my opinion, nixing the 15+ was one of WotC`s biggest mistakes.

With that said, even if we don`t ever get it back,I will not go off crying I`m going to quit just because I can`t get everything I want.I love this game dearly, and much to popular belief,we still have 15+ at most Challenges. If anyone would find out if the TO running the Challenge wasn`t doing a 15+,then someone, especially a Prof or Master Prof can easily get one organized. You may not get "the trips",but you still have an event.

Also, the Professor Program is really fun and getting better this year which translates that it will get even better in the years to come.Whatever happens,I will be thankful for having it.I may not agree 100%,but I will be thankful.

Eric:Hey dude, yeah, the STS`s were the best thing that WotC could do.I loved them too.As I stated above,we can still have events at the Challenges not to mention the Professor ones to boot. They are still a blast and it`s always great to hang out with all the friends and newcomers as well.

Heh.

Yes,I did play using that system once about 3 years ago.The guy who was GM`ing it had his shift switched at work and couldn`t GM it anymore. We played it about 3 times total,so I`m not that familiar with it as I never did play in it since. It was pretty cool for that brief exposure to it though.

Mmmm if we're off topicing a bit ..

CCG's played..

Star Trak TnG - started me on this whole CCG thing
MtG - the daddy of them all, nice game, far too competative OP and some really horrible people playing it.
Dune - Tried it, nice cards - dead game
Battletech - My Fav' CCG again a licensing issue and lack of support killed it.
Net Runner - A really good CCG that was killed off by WotC too.

RPGs played..

AD&D - didn't we all?
Rune Quest - great combat system
Tunnels and Trolls - My Fav' RPG great solo play support and the "Grimtooth's Traps" set, great game

PARANOIA - The computer is your friend.

WARHAMMER QUEST - The easy RPG.

There that about does it .. Oh not forgetting the Garage full of Table Top Figures and somewhere in there a Sarmation Army with 24ft lanches and bows!

Thanks Sensei, I do really appreciate ... but we're not alone to fight in Europe [Wink]

I haven't read your post ealier because I was at the GC in Lucca, Italy.
Like I say in another topic, Italian players had a lot of problems earlier this year.
What I've seen and heard in Lucca has made me really happy and has given me a real hope for the future of our game in countries like UK.

The tournament was perfectly run, a lot of players, very good athmosphere, happy people having fun ... and the Professors who were there were happy with the situation of the game in their country too.

It seems that one person is behind that situation, Barbara of the Italian office. The Italian Profs told me she's doing a wonderful job for Pokemon, and the result I've seen is really great.

If it has happened in Italy, I'm sure it can happen in other countries too [Wink]

Hey Sensei, please don't give such a title to one of your topics anymore ! I'm getting old and my heart is not that strong anymore [Angel]

Ah yes,you guys are jogging my memory.I played Battletech years ago and really loved that game.We also played a bit of Star Trek(the RPG),but that scenario ended up kinda like GURPS except for the GM stole one of the players girlfriends and ...that is just a twisted story and better left alone...I also played a bit of RuneQuest, but I just didn`t care for the Game.Just didn`t do anything for me I guess.

For a lot of ppl I know, flipping is a big reason to quit the game. Winning or losing a STS depending on the number of heads flipped for your Crobat really sucks.

I started playing Pokemon when Base Set was out (and a lot of players did as well). The only things you would flip for back then were Electabuzz, Farfetch'ed and perhaps the Bubble attack with Squirtle. Except for Farfetch'ed perhaps, it didn't even make a lot of difference whether you flipped Heads or Tails. But now, flipping is everything.

A lot of people have mentioned this problem before. And I hope Wizards will be able to tackle this problem by eg "accidentily" mistranslate some cards in the future. [Big Grin]

Well - I have quit.

After a layoff, I moved to Bodiddley Italy -- and the nearest store playing Pokemon runs League on Fridays. But they run it wrong. Every card is legal, proxies are tolerated (to the point of all-proxy decks), and the foils were not distributed correctly.
I tried to press the competitive issue - but they resisted me and my desire to bring order to their chaotic environment.
So, I quit.

I now run competitive Magi-Nation tournaments.
I am a Judge / Battlemaster for WizKids HeroClix / Mech Warrior: Dark Age.
And I've become a MiB for Steve Jackson Games doing store and convention demos and tournaments (please, check out X-Bugs -- I've corrupted so many Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh players with this game that has been called "Tiddely Winks on a word referring to an illegal drug that might be smoked, snorted, or administered intraveneously - but is often used to mean "unabashed goofiness"!).

Anyone interested in my card collection (at least 4 of every card) can contact me at [email protected]

Sheesh - screw up the company's copyrighted quote just because the Republicans wish to mind control us.

Throughout my history I thought of quitting Pokemon, mainly because I thought I got my fair share of the adventure, but I want more. I want to continue to play the video games, the TCG, and watch Ash make a fool of himself. Whenever I have felt that I should quit, I renew my promise to become the Greatest Pokemon Trainer I can possibly be. The last time I did this was over a year ago. (I even think I had a topic on it but the archives for 2001 are long gone). So my advice is, if you feel pressured just remember all the good time you have had and think of all the good times that are still to come.
