Hi there,
We're having real problems in the UK.
- no league kits for year 3: promised September 2002, never sent out from WotC-UK even though they have them
- no P:Exp : as far as we understand, stock has to go through the UK in order to reach Europe. Well, the rest of Europe has them, but you can't find them anywhere in the shops.
- no help for league : we can't access any way to update our league locations, so people just don't bother when they are interested in playing but reach dead leagues
- no sympathy from WotC-UK : emails, phone calls, you name it it's ignored.
I'm going to try to keep this post alive and would like other UK Master Professors to log onto this post with their efforts and expected failures on improving the situation over here.
For today, I have sent Lee Singleton (WotC-UK Pokémon rep) an email asking for a way to get the league kits out for year 3, plus a way of getting the league details updated for my league (we're in a different store!)

Great idea Freddy let's start with an easy one..
4 weeks ago I sent WotC UK 130 flyers advertising the South East Challenge .. these were to be posted to every league and to individuals on WotC's mailing list.
Now NoPoke hasn't seen any yet .. indeed I sent some more direct to him because of it... Has anyone else had anything from WotC direct?
Remember these were printed at my expense not WotC's.

Well now I've e-mailed the Prof listing address and given the updated details for our league. I've also offered to check out the other UK leagues for them if they like, as long as I get a response and promise that they'll be updated I've got no problem with this.
Like Lee could have done this any time in the last two years and it would have taken him 10 or so minutes. But of course that what I'm paid to do. Oh, sorry forgot, I don't WORK for WotC-UK do I??? Like why am I offering to do it I don't know... *grumbles something about love for this game*

Well you know that I was extreeeeemly fed up over genconuk. I even changed my sig for a while!
Go to the DCI pages and search for tournaments in the UK. GenconUK was a big event, and what do we see...
three events.
Would you believe that this is *good* news? last week there was only one event up, and Gencon was a long time ago. I was beginning to think that the tournament results had been lost/deleted.
Of course the results for one of those three events is incorrect, but we can't have everything! Right?

You know what, i think that there is some sage advise there. Though I'm not sure I'd pick YuGiOh.
We tried SWTCG and that has all but died in the UK . (same old story - no support)
Some of the kids are playing YuGiOh. (FAD). Well at least they still turn up!
Magic would get support from the UK office and does seem like a solid game, I'm just not sure that the players will go for it.
So whats left... well the best support in the UK comes from non-Wizards branded games. HeroClix looks like fun
Did you know that the UK is often refered to as the 51st state of America by some of the more republican types over here. There are times when I wish it was true.

Martin's Okay he can post SPAM all he likes as far as I am concerned and maybe sometimes we'll even read it
As for the UK well it comes to something when every Professor I talk to is ****** at WotC UK.
We try to work out a relationship with them but we do need to see something.. yes I know we have had 4 Gym Challenges and 4 days of gaming at UK GenCon.
But along with those high points we also got players being told they must pre-register to play at UK GenCon and that they couldn't turn up on the day to play?
Non-Professors with illegal decks playing in the professor tournament.
No Advertising for Gym Challenges until after the first had taken place.
Incorrect League listings on the Website
NO league kits and a general lack of response from WotC UK.
God I sound like I moan all the time but it could be good with just a little effort from WotC UK .. we are willing but are they??

We have League Kits for Season 1-3 of Y3, but Promos only for the Rainbow Season. So we've only got Jigglypuff, Tower and Rainbow. But now Rainbow Season is over, and we still have about 20 of those badge-book-replacing-thingies left. I'd be glad to help you UK gym leaders out, and I could send you the remaining 20 if that helps (at least until Wizards UK do something more).

Yu-gi-oh unfortunately is my alternative choice. It still being a fad worries me. It is actually kinda boring. If you'd make a pokemon deck to resemble a yu-gi-oh deck, you'd be called a trainermon. decks based on trainers to do the work of the pokemon are boring. Is europe really that bad off with getting pokemon supplies, or is the idea exaggerated?

Well, I actually do think Pokemon is a better game than Yu-Gi-Oh! by far. But, the problem is, Pokemon tournaments are gettign harder and harder to find. There are none in my entire state thats within a 100 mile radious.
So for now I will play Yu-Gi-Oh! to scratch that competitive itch.

I sometimes wonder myself if this is the way forward, too.
Perhaps one of the MTs could comment on this for us and say if it is at all possible or not.

Oooh, oooh, I can remember looking to see if the DCI post for the 11-14 GC was up for Gen Con. It wasn't there. So I just checked now and...it's still not. Sure, the under 10s have got there's up. Is 30 names too much to type, Lee?
I've just stopped going to my league...the kits won't turn up, the kids there don't wanna try and be even slightly competent, and if I don't go to the league I have enough time for a second OBC tourney at MTGO in a weekend.
With Magic Online, you can buy a solid competitive deck for about $20. Learn to play with it, then join tournaments. They cost $5, if you top 8 you get 6 packs which can be sold or traded for $20 of stuff. And your opponents can't punch you.
Also you don't need to rely on certain people who NEVER get things done. Can you believe they get paid for that? Would be great for a webcam link to Lee's office...he probably sits there playing MTGO all day.

Actually there is very little typing to do for the genconUk tournaments. Ukpokemonpro has done all the tournament entry and results, all Lee has to do is sanction and send them on to the DCI. Anyone who has done online sanctioning knows that Sanctioning and Electronic reporting are the easy bits of running a Tournament.

Unbelieveably within the UK, yes.
quote: perhaps wizards should put a subheadquarters in europe. might help...
Well the current status effects for their subheadquarters are as follows for Pokémon:
WotC-France - paralysed (no life signs at all) WotC-Italy - confused (no ideas on OP) WotC-Europe - poisoned (suffering from budget cuts) WotC-UK - asleep (Customer feedback? What's that? )
quote: What we don't have is anyone doing anything to help promote the game and keep it going apart from us Professors..
Couldn't agree with you more 'pro.
quote: We just lost yet another league location and a big one at that.. at the moment WotC UK are the disease and there is no cure..
This makes me so mad and upset why oh why is no-one taking charge of these things? Why is Pokémon being left to die?
We've been made Professors and for what? Just for us to do something as we're refusing to switch to MTG? What about all the promises about listening to our feedback? Remember this 'pro?

Thanks for your time and opinions

pro I live in Nottingham. The only league remotely close to me is the one I've talked about, and even though I'd like to come to your tourneys, it's not a trip I could complete in a day. Even then, the prize wouldn't cover travel expenses
And the fact that all Lee has to do is send them to the DCI just rubs it in.

Shame you can't make it Super Amphy, if you can make a weekend of it we have an all day PokeFest on Sunday 15th December 2002.
We are giving out bucket loads of prizes in our Age Modified Swiss Tourney and the Highest placed player in each age group wins a Box of Boosters, Hard to get Promo's and other goodies.
We've got traders coming too and will be looking to show just what we can do without WotC help..

NoPoke - Lord Of The Rings TCG - League kits can be bought directly from Decipher for a decent price as well as the *through shop method*. Amazing tournament reporting and retail information on DGMA.com. Printable starter decks and card scans of every card to date at decipher.com. So if you don't want to feed WOTC UK's Magic Pockets...
Am greatly looking forward to the 15th, but not the future. Freddy, those emails from Lee sounded like such a breath of fresh air at the time didn't they?
Am way off topic now I know, but any news on whether Exp will be sanctioned for the 15th 'pro?
