God Blast

If you havent looked yet there is a card in the next set to be released that has an attack called god blast. This struck me as odd especially since Christianity isn't the main religion in japan. Anyways im wondering if when translated the attack will keep its name. What do you think?

I believe it is being changed to "Diety of Your Choice Blast."

I can't imagine the attack will happen often.

It does happen at least 1-2 times per match, and that's enough. The thing is, the Azelf/Uxie/Mesprit deck doesn't focus on repeatedly doing 200 damage every turn like the Lugia ex/Blastoise ex deck (in Japan, Steelix ex isn't used in Blastoise ex decks, so I won't say "LBS"). The basic Azelf, Uxie and Mesprit from DP2 and DP5 have so many incredibly good Poké-Powers and attacks, and combined with Uxie lv X's and Azelf lv X's attacks you've got get enough options to keep the opponent in control all of the time, the whole game. God Blast is just used in those rare instances when your opponent suddenly gets a big, beefy high-HP Pokémon in play that causes problems to your pixies. God Blast that one annoying Pokémon down, and continue play as normal. That's God Blast's role in the deck.

*Shintoism

Correcting buddhism to shintoism isn't very appropriate nor correct. Most Japanese "believe" in more than one religion, and for those who "believe" in just two, it's usually buddhism and shintoism. It's so normal to believe some in buddhism and some in shintoism, and celebrate both religions' holidays, that very many Japanese people at my age (I'm 21) don't even know what the difference is. Actually, from my view, to believe only in shintoism would be kind of odd.

Umm.... as long as its "god Blast" and not "God Blast" most people would be fine with it. .

i see what you're doing there, and while i agree with you, i'm not sure that others would be as tolerant. big g or little g, the western world (unfortunately) has only one concept of god.

and it saddens me that christianity is the premier religion in japan. they've always been such a wonderfully spiritual country, that i find it unfortunate that shinto & buddhist beliefs have fallen behind to christianity.

um, where are you getting your information? christianity is most certainly a minority religion in japan. buddhism and shinto are the main religions there, and most people follow both of them.

oh, good. i went back and re-read the initial post. when i processed it the first time i thought it read "is the main religion" instead of "isn't the..."

*breathes a sigh of relief*

Mew Ex body was called Almighty. Are you serious, that wouldve been the best name for it since it was just that in the game of pokemon.

I believe in God,but I dont even think God cares that much about names on cards. Its not like people are praying to the cards or worshiping them.People are so soft sometimes.

It's pretty sad if you get offended by a medium that is supposed to be fictional and try to apply it to real life. Is using the word "God" in an attack supposed to change your world view on things? There are much more important things to get mad over.

i will try and stay remotely on topic, though it's a little difficult for me here.

many years ago, when pokemon was explosively huge, i was in the toy row at a department store and a mother asked an employee what she should get her kids. the worker told her that pokemon was huge and the kids were loving it.

she said that she didn't want to teach her kids evolution, and she heard that the pokemon evolve, so she wouldn't get her kids anything pokemon.

and to try and tie it back into the topic, this woman was the kind of person that would have trouble with the title God Blast (and as per pokemon card text format, the first letter would be capitalized to a big G).
