Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Ontario Battle Roads Spring 08

Matt: I am very sorry for rushing you but, when I see that my opponent is ahead in prize cards and is playing slower than before, I suspect something is wrong. The head judge Rick even told you to speed it up and after the the 1st game, Rick told me that I shouldn't tell my opponents to hurry up, that is the judges job, and I apologized for my actions to both you and Rick. For the second game though, when you were behind, you wouldn't let me say "cut (in reference to you letting Matt cut my deck)" because it wastes to much time. So in the end, I am again sorry for telling you to speed up and it won't happen again.

Garret: I do remember what we have talked about and I have been trying hard to follow what you have said.

Hey all,

I talked to a couple of you about how I'm used to setting up before the clock starts. Well I asked on the professor forums and it says right in the Tournament Guidelines:

From the Tournament Rules:

Quote:
8. Pre-game Time Limit
Prior to each game, players have two minutes to shuffle their decks and present them to their opponents for further shuffling or cutting. This two-minute limit includes resolving mulligans. The round should not begin until this two-minute period has expired.

You obviously cannot resolve mulligans unless you have looked at your hand to see if you have a basic pokemon. You also cannot resolve mulligans until after set-up, since you have to place an active, then prize cards, before you can draw your mulligan card.

I'm not trying to be unkind about this, I just want you guys to play the same way the rest of the world is.

Well I go slower to think of the different possibilities and scenarios to take my last prizes the most efficient way. I try my best to think ahead while its my opponents turn, but I just feel that it shouldn't be a problem in the first match out of three. For the record, Rick told me on one turn to speed it up and then gave you the warning after the first match. Anyways, it's done and over with, I was just stating it for future references. And sorry Garret for making it unclear, but Rick was stationed at our table the whole finals, and did give the warning for rushing.

Sorry AJ, but what seemed to be the difference in play? I didn't get the time to talk to you and get to meet you and such, but the only thing I can think of is that you felt we didn't get enough time to set up and shuffle?

Matt: Ok, I will not rush you (or any other player) but, if I find a problem with my opponents speed of play, call the judge on it.

I was told I wasn't allowed to draw my opening hand, play my basic, and lay out my prizes until after the clock started. I even had to shuffle my hand back into my deck because I did that one time.

The rules state that you set up first, and the clock cannot start until both players have had time to set-up.

OK, as far as I know we have always played that you can set-up prior to the start of the "clock". You stop at the point where all mulligans have been drawn and the player has been selected to go first. Certainly our regionals and provincials were played that way. Quite often its hard to get your seat at the table for the full 2 minutes, probably things aren't quite so seemlessly run from a BR perspective. As a matter of fact in our game in Hamilton, I remember you pausing as we got down to setting up before the round started, guess I know why now. Maybe this is a good reminder to the judging staff as to what the official ruling on this is.

Thx

Quick question, who is going to go and be atthe Barrie BR this weekend. I know there are other BRs on that day but, I want a lot of players to be there. The Siren Squad is going to be there (Me and my bro Jacob:lol:) and hopefully other locals (Troy and Curtis might be there but, idk).

Well you can expect me to be there.I want lots of people to play and I might want to try Beedrill there. What's Jacob going to play?

Yes, and just to let everyone know, Barrie's Battle Road will have a larger prize pool. One thing you have to remember though is that Doug has moved the store as well.

To get to the new Gamer's Lair, you exit at the Mapleview exit of the 400, and head west (left from the off ramp for those coming up from Toronto area). Go through 9 trafic lights, and Gamer's Lair is on the right hand side in a strip mall, unit 2. From what I've been told, space may be at a premium, since the store is currently smaller than the old store, and there's more inventory this time. Let's just do the best we can with what we have. Next week's BR at Angus will have no problem with space. Come early for both! Registration starts at 10.

Winston: He is playing Fossils (Kabutops/Omastar/Aerodactyl) I am j/king, I want my bro to win his 5th consecutive Victory Medal this season.

Garret: I am so excited:p Hopefully I can defend my turf

Everyone else: LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Well, looks like Barrie's Battle Road went great, with 29 players. I gave out extra packs and there was 15 door prizes. Everyone walked away with something. There was only one real problem for my head judge to deal with, but Jennifer handled it like a pro. I'm looking forward to next week for more of the same. I appreciate all the players who showed up and made this event such a success.

So, anyone know how the event went at Brampton?

There was around 20 people or so in Brampton, but it was forced to be grouped together due to having very few Juniors. I went 3-1 on Swiss barely losing to Matthew Koo on sudden death, but I managed to beat him in the playoffs @ 2-0. Won't be going to Oakville tomorrow though since I have a League to take care off

Barrie was fantastic, and not for the obvious reason. Great job Garret with the great prizes, we all had a blast

On to Oakville in a couple of hours!!

Thanks for the compliment. I may not always succeed, but I try to make it so everyone has a good time. So how was Oakville?

Oakville

Good turnout, 5 rounds and Top 4. I started well, but Round 4 I thought I had Matt K., but he slipped through my fingers and then he took me to school. Next round Paul A., another schooling. Well that's it for my BRs for this year.

Quinn won the Juniors, and pulled a Lvl X in his prize packs. Doesn't get much better than that! Patrick decided that swimming in the pool beat another day inside.

Patrick LOVES his Elekid, he hasn't let go of it since he got home!

Everyone: Terry is being a very nice and modest guy and I have to let it out for him (Laugh at me for losing if you want but, Terry is a very good player)

I got PWNED by Terry's MagKiss so yeah, I would like to say great game:p Hopefully I can break our 3-3 Tournament tie.

I will see you all in Angus (at least the Barrie crowd because Angus is basically Barrie:lol:)

Garret: I had a blast, thanks for the tournament.

Oakville ran very smooth with actually an extra hour to spare considering we usually go over time there and have to play in the hall way. Some of the usual suspects didn't show up, Kevin, Coleman, Zach, and Marcel in the mater division to say the least.

Anyways,

Top 4 was the funniest only because we had to play each other with no holds bar! (No more Basement rules for these games)

1st Matt Koo (GG w/secret techs)
2nd Geneses Pabuna (poleon w/ secret techs w/o star)
3rd/4th B.J. Abalos (Shiftryvire) and Curtis Lyon (poleon w/ OTHER secret techs(not same as mine))

I would've been first IF i didn't concede to Matt (I had some where important to go, he wanted to play on but i had no time >=P) I beat his GG list 3 times in a row with my Poleon list!!! XD Matt's getting rusting considering i never let him play GG at my house!!! hahahaha

yea, well.. thats because my secret techs both D and G weren't in there when I faced you from the night before haha... but with them.. you had no shot XD. we can try it out if you'd like =P
