Let me first say, this is an outrage.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but shortly after the 'custom avatar day,' a terrible thing was done. I know many Pokegym inappropriate avatars were removed, but somehow....my Agent Mulder avatar was also removed.

I'm sure some of you are equally outraged by this development while some of you don't know what this means, or sadly perhaps some of you ignorantly think my Agent Mulder was justifiably removed. To present the facts of why this action is such an injustice, I will share with you my official complaint, sent as a PM to a moderator.

"I am officially protesting the removal of the custom avatar I have had for a long time now. It was an avatar of Agent Mulder from the show the X-Files. The X-Files has everything to do with Pokemon.
In Pokemon, there is often a small group of players that work to keep the best deck in the format from the unsuspecting public. (in X-Files terms, they are hiding The Truth). Everyone in Pokemon tries to find the best deck in the format, or the deck that will win etc. (in X-Files terms, The Truth). Some people try to cover it up, some people like Agent Mulder try to uncover the Truth. Just like those in the know and those who want to know in Pokemon can be even in the same league or the same MESSAGE BOARD, the searchers and the hiders can be in the same government as X-Files. There are even foreign forces whose actions are largely unknown to all in both Pokemon and the X-Files. In Pokemon it's the Japanese, in X-Files it is the Russians and the aliens.
Every Pokemon TCG player's dream is to find the winning deck, this is exactly like looking for The Truth that Agent Mulder always is looking for. And just like Agent Mulder, Pokemon players deal with very deceptive lies and plots setup by foreign forces and even their own neighbors. Agent Mulder is about as related to the Pokemon TCG as anything.

Now I also saw there is a rule against people as avatars. Well I have reason to protest this rule as well. For as I saw on the avatar section, there are people you can have as avatars! For example, Professor Oak, the Copycat girl etc. There is even Team Magma's Maxie and Team Aqua's Archie. So are you implying that these EVIL men bent on some sort of world control are BETTER for a Pokemon message board than Agent Mulder? Agent Mulder is a seeker and defender of Truth. You aren't going to allow him, when you allow crazed evil guys to be avatars?
I submit that even Professor Oak is not as appropriate a Pokemon avatar as Agent Mulder. Professor Oak is a guy who gives you your first pokemon to train etc. This is like the game boy game I GUESS. But Agent Mulder by far embodies what a Pokemon TCG player's life is all about. Searching for The Truth (the best and winning deck).

So clearly, Agent Mulder=Completely Pokemon related. And your people rule is already being violated by much less suitable avatars. Plus Agent Mulder is (sadly) a fictitious character, like Professor Oak etc.

Given this preponderance of evidence, I claim that my Agent Mulder avatar should be restored, and if you have not saved it anywhere, I should be allowed to replace it with the same photo, or another picture of Agent Mulder should I be unable to find the original.

Thank you for your time."

My response was a very brief denial that I felt did not give due credit to the many facts in my favor.

The response was "The art has to be Pokemon related, not the concept."

To this I responded:

"Sorry, but I find this to not be a very legitimate argument. I don't see how art depicting a Pokemon is so different from art depicting a concept that is pretty much the base of the Pokemon TCG. The art is of a character who is Pokemon related, just like Professor Oak or whoever. In fact, art depicting Agent Mulder is far more related to the Pokemon TCG than some of the avatars still allowed. I know everything about the TCG and the characters: Flannery, Marina, and Red have absolutely nothing to do with the Pokemon TCG. They may have something to do with the video games or anime, I'm not sure, but this is definitely a Pokemon TCG board with just some subforums for the anime and video games. On this Pokemon TCG message board, the art of Agent Mulder is by far more 'Pokemon related' than Flannery, Marina and Red. As far as the TCG is concerned those are random people, while Agent Mulder clearly is not.

In fact, deciding which pictures of human looking faces are pokemon related is very debatable. There is an avatar allowed that is noted as 'Holon Mentor' but it could easily be mistaken as a drawing of Albert Einstein. How do you know that drawing was meant to be one or the other? I could've called my Agent Mulder avatar a picture of what a younger version of Professor Oak could look like. The picture I had and the picture of Professor Oak allowed actually have very similar facial expressions."

More legitimate arguments to backup my case. This message was days ago and has not been replied to. Clearly I am being ignored so I have brought this outrage to the public! The reasoning is clear why an Agent Mulder avatar should be allowed here. Save Agent Mulder! This is an outrage! Save Agent Mulder! Save Agent Mulder!

First off they didn't want real pictures of real people.
Second off, they didn't want anything not actually about Pokemon.

I remember seeing your avatar and I never knew what it was. Never once did I link it to Pokemon in any way. Sure it wasn't anything offensive, but it just didn't fit the new rules which stated that old existing avatars that don't meet the new rules will be deleted.

The admins seem to have no exceptions to their rules of appropriate Pokemon avatars only, and I don't see why you believe you should be an exception. But I can understand why you're upset since you've had the avatar so long and now it is suddenly gone.

Oh, and you're right about the Holon Mentor custom avatar. I never knew that was supposed to be Holon Mentor until I read it. I didn't have any idea (just thought it was some random dude lol), so you have an argument there...

Great Read!

It is now your job to discover the truth...why did they really remove the avatar?

The truth is out there...

I can feel your pain. I had the same white ninja avatar for almost 2 years. Please tell me what is more related to pokemon than a ninja! Ninjas invented pokemon

If you have a concern with why your avatar was deleted, please make a post in the TC hideout. They will get to it as soon as they can.

However, basic avatar rule is, Pokemon. X-files is not Pokemon.
I am not in charge of the avatars, but thats what I think.

That rule didn't exist during previous Custom Avatar days. I had a Rock-Lee Mentos avatar for a long time. Granted, it was definitely time to change it. I like my Kamina shades Pikachu better anyway.

It's just a picture! If you don't like something about it just go to a different website. It makes sense for avatars on Pokegym to be related to Pokémon. Why get all upset over a picture. IMO your avatar won't ever get put back up. Plus your arguments make absolutely no sense and is just connecting words to other words to connect your avatar with Pokémon. I've never even heard of this Mulder guy and I'm a Pokémanic.

What is the issue?

If it isn't CLEARLY related, then it isn't related to Pokemon under the rules standards, I guess.

Actually IMO the Team M one with the metagros with the big M behind it should not have been removed. M is not text is just a letter. If we are going to start doing that I guess you can have unown as an avatar because it counts a text. >_>

If you guys would read my post, I do show that Mulder is Pokemon related. I don't use how long I've had my avatar as a reason.

Allowing any one member an exception to the blanket rules of no person's image would mean that we would have to allow other pictures, etc.

Regardless of whether or not you have what you feel is a valid or just argument, it still violates the core umbrella rules.

I think instead of trying to argue your case, you should argue against the current system of rules. Right now it is legitimate to have removed your avatar, as it contained an image of a person- a picture of a person, which is not allowed.

Also, this is an inappropriate arena to broadcast your concerns. The appropriate place would be the TC hideout, as dukefirebird said. The RTC and the general 'gym population can do nothing for you, even if they empathize with you.

I had PM'd a mod and didn't get a 2nd response. And Professor Oak and whoever is trying to look like that Lunatone are people too. If I had an animated looking Mulder is that such a big difference?

And Mulder and Pokemon may have started on different continents, but they are undeniably related to each other. X-Files plotline=Pokemon TCG world to a T. Anyone familiar with both can see this. It's obvious.

You have had that avatar for a very long time... Years...

Why do they decide to delete it now? =/

Simply put, read this:
Custom Avatar FAQ said:
The avatars are the decorations for our forum. This is a Pokémon discussion forum. Therefore, avatars need to be clearly Pokémon related. They also need to look good artistically and not be too distracting.

In general, no lettering is permitted in an avatar, put it in your signature. There may be exceptions for your screen name or a logo from a card or the anime, but given that custom avatar days are infrequent, you're probably best advised to take no chances and leave the lettering off. Past abuse and the generally awful and illegible nature of lettering in an 80x80 icon is the reason for this guideline.

Photographic images and lightly altered photographic images of people are generally not permitted.

PokéGym senior staff judgment will be the final decision of what avatars meet these criteria.

Not one, but two issues with the avatar in question.

This avatar was not the only one that was deleted, even though in the past it was accepted. New rules and old avatars were subject to the same rules as everyone else that uploaded.

Talk to Ryan V. as well as others that had avatars that did not meet the rules.

I understand your outrage but they said that it should be CLEARLY pokemon related. Yours was indirectly pokemon related.
