Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2009-2010 modified format announced

Wow, this is great! I can't believe it.

How many sets are we going to have to choose from come late next year? Like, 20?

Hot damn!

The format is going to be more similar because of this. I think the yearly change is good. Year 3 of Claydol is kind of lame. Despite the hate, it remains huge and likely will so.

HAPPINESS and JUBILATION!!!!!

For two reasons.

First, and most importantly for the entire playing base, NO ROTATION!!!!!!!! Machamp is NOT the GG of next year, thank you very much. And, for some strange reason, I might actually see the format slow down a little bit after this whole SP thing dies down. Slower format = more fun format IMO!

Secondly, I don't have to read any more format shift topics for another 9 months!

I was gonna... but he said it...

So...

^^ "WHAT HE SAID !!! " ^^

Oh yeah... and ...

I'M STILL EXCITED !!!

i dont know i like it cause we can use the same cards over and over but it will get old and the popular decks would probably get boring and i like playing against new decks but now since no rotation the same decks are going to be played over and over again weres the fun in that

Nope.

NEW CARDS MAKE OLD CARDS BETTER!

You'll have crazy rogues popping out of the woodwork now.

Just wait until people start getting the hand of TECHING SPs and Cyrus instead of running them straight.

Just wait until people start studying DP & SW and realizing how RR makes some cool things happen for those cards!

People have AN ENTIRE YEAR to try SO MANY combinations.

The same ol' ?

No... you're mind is about to be BLOWN my friend...

Gotta agree with RA here - 13 sets is gonna be crazy. Alot of rouges are going to be discovered, Just 100 cards per set would mean 1300 playable cards!

They actually listen to their player base now! I wanna play Pokemon forever!

Not to rain on your parade, but this has been in the works since the middle of the 2006-2007 season. We couldn't do it this year, because we wanted to get the EX Series out of the format before upping the number of sets in the format. We knew that the 2008-2009 season would be DP-on, and knew that this was the perfect opportunity to execute our plan.

So, technically, this has been in the works for 2 years. You guys are just slow to catch on.

Imagine that... POP planning ahead...

POP is amazingly ran by some of the Best TCG people their are!

I am glad this occurred and can't wait to see how it develops over the next year!

Judges... get ready to have a more complex Tournament Season for 09-10! It will definitely be FUN as Dave always says!!

I pity the fool who traded all there dols for little n00bs for utter rubbish thinking
GE wud be rotated....

The decision to have the Modified format last for longer than just one year will keep the game being as close to Japan as it has been this season - and as close as it always should have been! :) In the 2009-2010 season, just like the 2008-2009 season, all the playtesting that Creatures do with the new cards while designing a new expansion will be in our Modified format! :D Annoying situations like the "Scramble and Gallade in the same format, but no Banette ex" situation of 2007-2008 will never happen again.

Right.
Back when we had the broken trainers from Base Set, new sets came and went, and no one changed their decks by a single card because the old cards were stronger.

Now, each set totally changes the metagame.

Good point. I remember that for every new set that came out, I just looked at scans/spoilers to see what the Trainer cards did. There might be an interesting Trainer that could be teched into my deck, but no way would there ever be a new Pokémon that's usable.

Now, the new expansions are so well thought out. The card designers actually sit down and analyze the current metagame, create dream decks with dream Pokémon that are dream counters to the current top decks, and put them in the next set. A clear R & D improvement!

still donk decks? this is the worst thing pokemons ever done...and still no bdif? as a player since jungle, this is the worst format i've ever played in...

Having a rotation wouldn't have gotten rid of any donk decks. =\ It would have actually helped machamp by rotating unown G >.>

And having no BDIF isn't a completely bad thing either. The format is wide open and any of 5-7 decks can do well. How is that worse then having a single best deck that's either play it or be able to beat it?

Does this mean that for the 2 years after that it will be Platinumfor 2 years?
Oh my goodness! This has got to be a record! Pretty well the day after the announcement, and someone is already speculating on the next format! Let's just wait and see, Ok buddy?

I would have never believed it.

The sheer number of cards that are available (and will be available when the next Worlds rolls around) is incredible.

So will the format be more diverse or will combinations emerge that demand that you play them - so everybody ends up playing the same thing?

Only time will tell...

Bravo PUI. Bravo. A wonderful decesion. I now can look forward to next season, instead of dreading the donks. VERY good call. This made my day.
