Basic question...

I may've missed the memo in the OP, but are we playing DP-on? Are we playing a format at all?

It's DP- On
Awesome question!
Thanks!

I'm going to make it Single-Elimination w/ best 2 of 3 matchups.
(no time limit on the matches, you must take all 6 prizes unless a scoop occurs)

This would help w/ RedShark Glitches not screwing up your match.
It also seems to be an appropriate setup for single-elimination matches.

actually, kettler, you would be DQd, as RA says:

i dont really care how this tournament proceeds. there is no way ill have time for it anyways, and i could be playing in live,

If you're not even signing up, then that's what's up.

Thanks for the input.

RA: consider not doing rounds on weekends due to cities.

OMG!

You're absolutely right.

We should probably have a "anytime Saturday - Sunday" rule for rounds that end up on a weekend.

Some people do travel to those things

Also, what's to stop someone from cutting connection when their opponent has 1 prize left to avoid losing? I personally have a terrible connection and been ahead on prizes when my connection cuts out. (see: Magnechu, Cyrus, MotL). Against Chad, I I was on my last prize when it dropped.

The must take 6 prizes rule is really iffy.

How do you even prove someone played a full game? That in itself is an issue.

Are we supposed to take screenshots or something? :p That would solve the "drop to avoid losing" issue...

Yes Please!!!!!
Arcante = Branoc R
Deck = Secret, but has Honchkrow

Well done for Playing Torterrible Bullados!!!!!!

You guys are SO spot-on with bringing up those issues.

RedShark WILL malfunction on you in the middle of a game from time to time.

People don't want to win/lose because of a cotton-pickin' glitch either. :/

grrr....

Well...

1. You're right. I'll erase the "must take 6 prizes" rule. Everyone here knows how to start and end a game. That rule only complicates things :/ Thanks for that input!

2. BOTH players are being asked to report the result of their match. So, if they're not full games, it's not an issue. One player may end up scooping two games. That's fine.

Awesome input guys. Thanks!

I just dled Redshark unfortunately and have already arrived at a problem. It says I'm not able to save my deck to the Redshark program file. Not a problem right? I saved it to a different folder. When I try to start a new game though, I can only play with decks from the Redshark program file. Anyone wanna help?

ok..... this info should help. it wasnt written by me

Ok... I just did some testing with this, and something weird is going on, at least for me.

This all happened on Windows Vista.

I installed an old version of RedShark (v. 3.01). I went ahead and created a deck. Afterwards, I uninstalled the program. When I checked the Program Files folder, the redshark directory was gone. No files or anything. Completely gone.

But don't panic just yet. I went ahead and reinstalled version 3.01 and created another deck. When I navigated to the redshark directory under Program Files, the deck I created wasn't there. How could it be that redshark sees the decks it creates, but you can't see the files?

It turns out that Vista causes many programs to save to a directory called VirtualStore. It can be found here:

C:/users/(username)/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/redshark/

(username) is the account name you are using on Vista. Some of the folders are hidden, so you will need to have your computer show them. To do this, click on the folder with your username on it on the desktop. Click on the "Organize" drop down, and there should be an option for "Folder and Search Options". Click on the "View" tab. Under "Advanced Settings", there should be a folder for hidden files. Click on "Show all files". Hit OK.

You should now see the AppData folder in the folder with your Username. Go to Local, then VirtualStore, then Program Files, and then redshark. You will see your old decks there. Copy them to a different location.

It is really unfortunate that Vista has to work this way. I've heard that other developers are having problems with this same issue.

I hope this helps for recovering lost decks.

-----------------------------------
Because of an issue regarding Windows Vista, Vista users who installed the latest version of Redshark today may not be able to view or save their decks. To fix this, follow the steps below. ONLY Vista users need to do this. New installers will hopefully be released within the next week or so to fix other minor bugs that have been reported since the release of the current version (such as Luxray GL LV.X’s text missing), but the installers may not resolve this Vista issue. A separate Vista installer may be created to solve this problem, but it is still under investigation.

1. Uninstall Redshark.
2. Reinstall Redshark. BUT, when it asks you where you want to install it to, it is imperative that you input “c:\redshark.” This will install it to a different folder than normal.

Follow the steps below if you want to recover your old deck files and use them in the current version of Redshark. You will only need to do this once, as the two steps above will allow Redshark to save your deck files safely in the future.

1. Go to “C:/users/(username)/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/redshark,” replacing “(username)” with your Windows username. If this is too complicated for you, you can also go to “My Computer,” click the C: Drive, your username, and then go to AppData -> Local -> VirtualStore -> Program Files -> Redshark.
2. Some of the folders are hidden, so you will need to have your computer show them to you. To do this, click on the “Organize” drop down at the top of the folder, select “Folder and Search Options,” click on the “View” tab, and click “Show all files” under “Hidden files and folders.” Hit OK. You should now see faded files and folders (you may want to undo this after you are done with the below steps - select “do not show hidden files and folders” to reverse this action).
3. Open the folder with your username and find the “AppData” folder.
4. Go to: Local -> VirtualStore -> Program Files -> redshark. You will see your old decks there. Copy them to your “c:\redshark” installation folder. Now you’re ready to play Redshark with your old decks!

i wouldn't spend my time 'complaining' aka trying to better something if i didn't earnestly think it was a good endeavor and worthy of such thought and debate.

hopefully my efforts at trying to convince you to use a different platform didnt come off as me trying to minimalize your efforts or this idea. in fact, i think its a great idea. there's simply no way i can participate, but that doesnt mean i dont want to see things i think are interesting/with potential be their best. i simply have the opinion that APPR is superior and would make this best- but opinions can differ. i was just trying to get at the root at WHY you chose RS over APPR.

good luck to all the participants and good luck to you especially, RA. lots of paperwork =P
merry christmas, again.
