US Nationals 2010

Yeah, there is undoubtedly a reason they haven't disclosed anything.
But, I'm with everyone else in saying how ridiculous this is! I'm sorry but people need to plan ahead, and POP better get on top of it and soon.
That being said, I am sure they are trying to get everything sorted out as fast as they can.

I can narrow it down farther: Sometime in the next 7 months. (It will happen before Worlds...)

I can narrow it down further:

There will be no Nationals. If there's no information by now, then I have NO reason to believe that there will be one.

Well...
I look at it as (from my point a view) a way for POP to save money. Nationals is a free tournament & huuuuge prizes given out to the winners of each division. We complain there's no nationals, but none of us will quit the game. They know when sets come out we will be buying them. And if there is a Nationals next year, and they tell us early enough, then most of us will try to go.

I don't agree with how this issue is being dealt with, but if they're trying to save a huge amount of money, cutting Nationals would be a good way to do it.

(I'm not saying I'm right or keeping us in the dark this long is right, but that's JMO).

There not cutting Nationals , its on their list for this year as a premier event. The more money people save by planning ahead the more money they will have to buy cards with. So hope I can save some money soon.

Wait, don't they (usually) give travel awards to Nationals at States? Don't they HAVE to have announced it by then?

The awards from States are travel vouchers that are redeemed at the Nationals site (if you show up). It's nothing more than a check -- there is no booking involved on POP's end so the Nationals location (or lack thereof) does not affect that award.

Now Regionals, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure awards a fully-paid trip to each winner. What you're thinking would definitely apply there.

Don't be silly. Why wouldn't there be Nationals? If I have confirmed info (though not officially by TPCi) that there is a Canadian Nationals, why wouldn't there be a US one?

Because Canadia is awesome like that.

Yeah, and Utopia is the best, but that's a story for another thread. Nats IS hapnin people. TPCi has their reasons why they haven't given any info, of which we may or may not learn about shortly. Of course it's frustrating. It's probably pretty frustrating that they can't give out the info yet for them too. Let's cut them some slack ok please?

To be honest, I know where my Nats is and I am frustrated on not knowing where US Nats is. People have to get time of work, have a date to plan for, have a location to figure out costs, etc. I am very disappointed in TPCi (or PUSA or Pokemon or w/e) this year because they just seem to be falling apart. At first, the rankings are all over the place, the website moves, the lack of info, etc. and now we have barely any solid evidence of organized play for the rest of the year. I just hope they can get back on track:thumb:

Way to go Zach. Some good slack there buddy. And you shouldn't be too concerned about when and where it is, since you aren't from the US, nor are you a professor that could go in the professor cup. Good job.

I'm not so sure people wouldn't quit if there were no U.S. Nationals. To me, that would be the beginning of the end of Pokemon.

Shhhh someone might here you, professor

Attica! Attica! Attica!

my comment might not of been appropriate, but I stand by it to be honest. We should know by now, and I am a bit disappointed that I am begin asked to wait by POP for a date, but my work is wanting the information now. I mean i could guess it's on Origins weekend, but its not a 100% sure thing. I know and understand not everyone is in my boat, they can wait a little longer to request off, but January flew by, and I think the next few months, with States and all, will fly by too.

The Pokemon site does have links to Nationals, but without any information in it yet. Thus I doubt there is any intent to discontinue Nationals.

PA, we are understanding for a delay that wasn't intended, as long as Pokemon recongnize that not having dates and location arranged by Jan 1 of the year isn't acceptable.

My speculative reading of the tea leaves on this is that Pokemon has a pending agreement with a different location because of problems with St Louis last year. But they had a Contract with St Louis that they have been taking the contractual options of cancelling, because of some failures to perform in the contract last year. This cancellation is being held up by St Louis Convention Center contesting the cancellation. The lawyers are holding up the cancellations and such, until there is a agreement to release pokemon from the original St Louis Contract, the public release of date and location is in limbo.

My business sense is that if Pokemon didn't have other aggreements to navigate, to go from a blank slate to getting a date and location, and negotiate detaisl and pricing would not be hard or delayed.. But only when you are trying to negotiate an exit of prior contract does things get sticky.

Since we have no information whatsover, and no idea why Pokemon hasn't given nationals details yet.... We are left with threads on speculation. (That is what I have done.) I just am waiting on the "dates" at this point. I probably don't need to know "where" until a month before to make some travel arrangements.

I would have to think that the EASIEST thing for them to do would be to go back to Origins. They have the space and much of the planning/logistics is handled by the Origins team.

But at this late date (as has been noted) all the rooms in the nearby hotels are gone.

(I could let someone have one of mine for $400 a night I guess...)

I don't think this would have been easy. Origins would likely over charge for TPCi to "come back with their tail between their legs". Origins is also 2 months closed for pre-registration. They stopped taking registrations in December. Nats is NOT at Origins. No way, no how.

With all that's been said, I think a major point needs to be thrown out there. The frustration a lot of people are feeling would be supressed quite a bit if someone were to come out and say: "We're sorry. We can't talk about Nats. When we can, we will. It is being worked on." As I learned early in school: It's better to say I don't have any information than to say nothing.

As it stands, I'm sure the TPCi offices are quite busy with all of the project they are working on. It's unfortunate that something is holding all of this up, and I hope the announcement can overcome the poor outlook in the community.

Ummmmmm I think Origins would welcome them back with open arms after last year(Empty, and I mean EMPTY for the reports) Although Origins Early Bird is over, and i doubt THIS year, but I really hope in the next years they go back

We chose Origins over Nationals last year.

Attendance was down about 2200 people. About the number of Pokemon players plus their families, plus a number of other people due to the economy.

Origins was far from empty. Only the Pokemon area was empty.

Ok, seriously. I'm really getting tired of the fact that they haven't even apologized for the inconvenience that this is causing. They could at least pop in to say that they're working on it or something.

Has anyone thought about sending them civilized e-mails asking about where and when Nats will be? And by "civilized", I mean make it sound like a professional question and not a drama story about yourself.
